If you can share, is Nike maintaining the same basic design for Nadal or are they finally going to mix it up?

Zoom Vapor 9 was the most attractive tennis shoe on the market, this X version looks horrible.

They look much better with some color. I like how they've flared out the forefoot, like Fed's. That outsole tread pattern is interesting.

    Vapor Xs look good.

People always hate on the new Nike shoes at first, then in 3 months its the GOAT shoe. Happens every time.

So true. I can still recall the hate for the Vapor 9, which has since become pretty much the Goat Nike tennis shoe.

Vapor 9 was exceptionally harshly criticized but turned out to be true GOAT.
People did not like Vapor 7 and 8 but it did not turn GOAT status.
I am not sure Vapor X will be good (from pics, vapor X is really wide). Nike designer just stuck at vapor 9/9.5 design and does not know what to do with newer design.
outsole is very different and not sure how good these outsoles are.
Especially Fed likes stay with old outsole so I will not surprised that he will wear hybrid version (upper for Vapor X and same old outsole design: same outsole pattern with carbon fiber shank)
or stay with AJ3 and flyknit vapor 9.5.

One has to be a true sneaker head to tell them apart. I'm pretty underwhelmed by the effort nike put into this new release. It looks like 9.5 is so great and they are afraid to mess it up. Why bother then?

Yeah as loved as the 9.5s are Im sure they didn't want to deviate much from it..which is good. Also Im sure they didn't want to give Fed anything too different than what he's used to.

Fed's AO shirt seems totally weird.

Definitely simple. Nike really is putting very little effort into their Federer and Nadal designs. One would think they'd appreciate all time greats a little more.

Its kinda like hmm i'm not sure what i can do to make this design unique and i'm running out of time, let's just smack in two stripes the people are gonna lap it up anyway since its RF wearing it.

It's just a solid gray or silver crew shirt.

If they keep selling merchandise with just putting the players names or initials on them then that’s all people are going to get. It is been that way with Nike for very long time now. They just don’t care that much about Tennis - this is fairly obvious.

Why bother with most of Nike’s tennis line these days?

    So boring. No imagination.

Genuine question - do people think the level of simplicity in a final design (i.e. Rafa’s consistent design but cldifferent colour, the new RF AO top) is a show of a lack of effort?
I can’t imagine design processes are made much shorter by not incorporating flashier graphics or radically different cuts. I would think this perceived simplicity is actually a design choice than a ‘can’t be bothered today, just make it pink and stick a line on it. Pub?’ sorta thing. Is the perception that Federer’s AO shirt last year took significantly longer and more effort to design than this years? Simplicity and subtleness in design aren’t just achieved from doing nothing.
Yes, reducing the lines down and repeating base designs obviously suggests less resources are being focused on Tennis lines but that is unlikely to impact the design process of each.
Not necessarily defending the designs (although I quite like the stripes on the new Federer shirts) but would be interested to hear thoughts

Simplicity does not mean lack of effort, I honestly don't care about how much effort it takes as long as the final product is good. Your girlfriend could spend three hours cutting your hair and try really hard and you come out looking like you got sucked into a jet engine, and your barber could spend 20 minutes and minimal effort and you look great.

2008-2010 was the zenith of Nike tennis, and most designs were simple. My favourite shirt is the 2008 FO polo or the light blue clay season version. Fed's 2017 Oz shirt feels like a flea market knock off Hanes t-shirt and most of Rafa's stuff in recent years is like paper towel texture.

Honestly, how much effort do these new Nike designs reflect? They are not even interesting from a “Minimalist” standpoint.

Stripe on the chest for Rafa. Stripe on the shoulder for Fed. Done.
