Nike is the new Prince

I have a confidential and trusted source in Canada that told me that Nike will buy and take over Prince sometime in the next couple years. So instead of the Prince Ex03, it would be the Nike Ex03, etc. The racquets will be identical to prince but will be labelled Nike instead of Prince. Nike surely has enough money, and this is serious.
If you want to rip on this like you did on the guy who had the thread about the cotton candy ballistecs and babolast decided to call him a liar, then you can do so, but just wait and remember this thread, because it will happen.

Why in the next couple of years if its already guaranteed? Why wouldn't it just happen now?

Good point. If you think a brand has value, why would you wait years when 1) the value could decline, or 2) the price could go up? Doesn't make much sense.

I can find out. I honestly dont know, but I will ask him. He owns a local specialty tennis store. This is a definite move by Nike though. It could also be because Prince JUST came out with a new line of racquets like the new pogs and rebels, so they will probably wait until the next line of racquets come out.

Nothing is definitive. Especially when you say "years". And generally speaking local specialty store owners have no knowledge of executive decisions in a publicly traded company.

So will Federer and Nadal change from Wilson/Babolat to the new Prince/Nike racquets?

I don't see such thing happenning. As said before, why waitinf a few years? those things can take a while to be decided, but if it's set, then everybody rushs. I see absolutely no reason for that happen.

But, if this really happens, I'll search for this thread and bump it.

no fed has a lifetime contract with wilson, and nadal has a 10 year contract with babolat that he signed back in 07 i think.

when did I ever even mention fed or nad? That makes no sense. Just wait, and you will see. I explained above that the reason is probably due to the fact that Prince just released a new line of racquets and will likely wait till a new line comes out to be taken over by Nike. Adidas is a fail because it's just a cheap copy of the wilson k 6.1 line, but Nike will be prince racquets, just wait.

Dude, I said that because, OBVIOUSLY, they use Wilson/babolat racquets. And I bet that Nike pays SO MUCH MORE MONEY than Wilson pays Federer and Babolat pays Nadal.

So, if that really happens, OBVIOUSLY they will want the #1 and #2 in the WORLD to use their racquets. We're not talking about the 10th best player in the world. We're talking about the TWO BEST PLAYERS. The ones that are making history nowadays.

And, to sum up, If Nike is really taking over Prince, they will pay a large amount of money. so they wouldn't be willing to wait years for that.

I'm not saying that this is true, but it is worth noting that Prince and Nike have some sort of agreement for Nike Tennis Camps. The balls are Prince and every picture in the brochure shows a player using a Prince racquet. It's been this way for a few years at least.

There was a thread here several years ago (maybe 5 or 6 yrs.) where Nike was in talks about making Pete Sampras a racquet. If I remember correctly, there was a prototyped pic enclosed.

Something search for it?

It wouldnt surprise me. Nike just got into lacrosse and have released lacrosse heads and lacrosse shafts, and other equipment. They have been colloborating with renown lacrosse company STX, and had them design them a few lacrosse heads. Wouldnt surprise me if Nike went the same route with Prince and had them design and engineer racquets specifically for them. A takeover would be crazier but understandable.

Even if Nike are not buying out Prince, Prince should accept the name change to Nike, because it's a much more far-reaching brand name. Nike has such a huge following that it would pique the interest of people who don't even play tennis.

Thinks its BS too, and really hope so, it would be a real shame to lose the Prince name and heritage. Prince have been the innovators over the years with the graphite, OS, CTS, o3s etc.

That's the dumbest thing to rename the rackets to Nike EXO3. Prince has just a established brand name in the racket market.

I am also calling this BS.

I suppose it's possible but it wouldn't look good for them if they owned Prince when so many players who are sponsored by Nike but don't use Prince frames. Plus those who are sponsored by Prince but wear other clothes like Adidas.

Hard to prove doesn't mean it's wrong but it doesn't mean it is going to be an easy sale to prove it based on hearsay either. Nike did buy Bauer hockey and launched their own equipment simultaneously. Then eventually Nike branded their own equipment. So it's historically possible, but in this economy recreational sports marketing is really taking a big hit so the possibility that since Addias has made a substantial offer to purchase Reebok, Nike might want to get aggressive. More than this however is conjure even if it is really in discussion between both parties and a deal hasn't been formalized..

I read somewhere there's going to be some kind of apocalypse, too. Just you wait and see...
Obnoxious made a good point: what does some dude running a tennis shop know about corporate takeovers?

Yeah I dont think Nike will takeover. Im sure they will just buy Prince, but keep them as a separate subsidiary. Prince will continue going on being Prince cuz they have a history and name recognition. But my guess is Nike will use Prince to make a few Nike branded racquets that will use Prince technology. Thats what makes the most sense to me.

Surprised it has taken Nike this long to get into the tennis racquet business. Interesting to hear that they would take over another line, especially Prince, since their golf life started from scratch.

Adidas has owned Reebok for a couple of years now or close to it.

interesting concept but wouldn't be surprised especially since adidas has re-released tennis rackets into their product line.

I believe him - also heard Nike will purchase the universe and milky way - they will call it the Nike-verse and the Nike-way

Earth will be renamed Nearth ;)

I dont owe you anything, just wait that's all I am asking.

Sorry but the internet is a messed up place full of lies. I really don't believe anything online unless it's from a trusted source. Posting one would give you a great name here for breaking the story of new sticks going to the market.

Messed up place full of lies?
This is hilarious! I dont know whats better, the fact that I know that im right about this or the fact that your all trying to diss me with this USN and Nearth crap and having failed attempt. Just wait and you will see. I will be counting down the days until this happens then I will get the last laugh, ughhhhh I can't wait!

Ummm... didn't you pay attention when your teacher in mid/high school was telling you that your words don't mean anything unless you have hard proof to back it up? You are counting down the days until Nike takes Prince (supposedly,) which means you either have a specific date or are just messing with us. If you know you're right, then PROVE IT AND BACK UP YOUR WORDS.

Don't waste your breathe with this guy. It's like talking to a wall. He just pull stuff out of his *** and got no proof for anything. You should walk away from this troll too like I am now.

It would be kinda funny. No more "p" or "d" when you spin the racquet. It will be check or upside down check. Not catchy =p:)
