Nike Spring Federer Control Polo and Control 9" Short - Sizing

Hey folks,

I'm going to place my first order soon, and I have a question about sizing. According to the sizing charts, I should be wearing a SMALL for both the polo and the shorts. However, I just wanted to know if anybody out there knows of any discrepancies in sizing, or perhaps whether the cuts make the sizes somewhat different than what you would usually wear?

This will be my first Nike polo and short, so I just want to make sure that I get my order right (it would suck living in Canada to get the size wrong and have to return it and do all of that over again).

Just to give you an idea, I'm about 5' 8". Chest size is roughly 36" - 38". I'm Chinese, so my body structure is slightly smaller, but in terms of shape, I would say that my body resembles that of Djokovic's. Thanks!

haha well if you are 5' 8'' and with a body shape of djokovic i would say go for a large. if i was you i would go to your local tennis shop or like sports authority or something, try the shirt on, and then order it from TW.

Well, maybe I should have been more clear on that. When I meant body shape, I don't mean body mass... Like, I have shoulders that are somewhat narrower and they slope a bit, like Djoko... Whereas Federer has wide shoulders. Normally, when I buy a sports polo, I get small and it's okay.

Hey mate,

I just bought the Blue control polo and black 9" shorts yesterday and i had to go one size up (usually small, bought medium). The shirt was really fitted as were the shorts. If possible i think it would be a good idea to go and try them on. :)

Ah, that throws a whole different light on things. =/
I can't buy anything until I'm sure... And I have no means of trying this particular set on. If I did, it would mean that I could buy it up here in the chilly north.

So, you had to go one size up for the shorts as well?

I found the shorts were properly sized from the charts. I usually take a large in the polo (dont know if the chart says i do) and it fit pretty standard like all my other polos. The shorts i went with a medium according to the charts, and there working just fine. I've gotten both shirts and shorts, so the sizing is pretty good (Note: the shorts have an elastic waistband, so they do stretch a bit)

Hey Leon, nice to see you again. Notice I still haven't ordered even though I was excited as all get out when you told me that TW ships Nike products to Canada. :)

Well, that sounds reassuring. I'm just really cautious... It would suck if I had to send it BACK to TW 'cause the size isn't quite right and have to pay all the shipping stuff all over again.

The Fed Control Polo is cut differently than previous Nike Dri-Fit Polos. This one is very fitted in the torso area. I ordered a size small and it fits me perfectly (5'5", 128 lbs). According to your specs, I'd say you'll do fine with a size medium, as long as you like and are comfortable with the fitted look.

I like 'em and am looking to buy more. It looks good on and off the tennis court.

not a problem. Always happy to help out a fellow canuck. Anyways, like i said, you've got nothing to worry about. Just order the shirts in whatever size you normally wear and the shorts go by the sizing chart. I know the shirt might actually fit smaller, while the shorts larger from what im hearing around the board.

Hmm... Well, I've always worn small for most everything... The sizing charts seem to indicate that I should get small, but that's a good note about the cut. The thing is, I have a pretty lean mid-section. Again, I'm Chinese, so my body structure is somewhat smaller anyway... Well, just to get an idea, you're 5' 5", and the shirt ends right below your waist? Or further down?

Alright, that sounds cool. Do you think it'd also be a good idea to call TW and ask them about this issue? Think they'd be able to give me a good opinion since they actually have the shirt and shorts there?

tennisfan, if you're not a "little person" you don't wear small EVER!!! tight clothes are for metrosexual clubbers, not tennis players...

you could do that, or drop them an email or post a thread in the questions/comments section of this board. Im sure they will be happy to oblige (great customer service track record)

hahaha
well, the reason for me normally wearing small is because my shoulders are narrower... wearing a medium makes shirts "hang" off my shoulders, if you know what i mean... and i hate the feeling of having my shirts too loose

cool... yeah 'cause i'm thinking, maybe they've been getting questions about this too, and can tell me what people have been going with... i mean, i can sorta tell anyway, 'cause the smalls ALWAYS seem to go faster, so if that many people are getting it, the fit mustn't be too far off the mark, i guess?

Yup, definitley a good assumption. as always, i would double check to be safe. I know that i always have worn a large in any polo style shirt, so i always go with one. For me, the large fits much more like a traditional polo than a nike dri fit shirt (its completely dri fit and very light.)

Perfect, thanks!

I guess patience is a virtue, and what I can also do is wait 'til the Rogers Cup comes to Toronto this year (since I'm definitely getting tickets)... Then, visit the shop and see if they have the shirts... Just buy them there, or try the slim-fit sizes and then order from TW... One or the other... :)

Good on you!

i wouldn't be able to do that :(

Well, now I'm rethinking it and I really don't know if I can wait that long... Arghhh...

The main problem is that I'm hearing mixed stories... Some people are saying that just going by the sizing charts according to your regular chest size should be okay, whereas other people are saying that it's more fitted and it could feel really tight if you don't go one size up.

If I can get some kind of sure answer, or more of a general consensus, I'll be happy to order... Right now I'm torn. =/

*bump*

Anybody else have a firm grip on sizing issues here...? Just 'cause I'm hearing mixed answers and I wanna be sure before I order =P

hey i live in TO too, i just got the fed control polo today. compared to other nike medium polo, the fed polo fits more fitted. if you like a looser fit than go for a size up, but if you like it a little more fitted/tighter than your usual size should be perfect. as for the shorts they fit like normal, no issues there for me. hope that helps. btw where you play?

Alright, as long as I know that ordering in my size doesn't make it TOO small, that's fine. Fitted is perfect.

And it's awesome to see a fellow Torontonian here. During the winter months, I play at L'amoreaux Recreation Centre... It's really more uptown Toronto, I don't live downtown. During summer, I play at these courts that are literally 2 min. from my house... Bridlewood Tennis Club. How bout yourself? Where do you play?

no, it shouldn't be too small. i put up against control polo of last year, the one fed wore at wimbledon, the length and the shoulders, etc all measured the same, except the cutting abit different (which makes more fitted). so i guess if still worried you could go try on a regular nike polo and see if its what you want.

well i live even more north, haha, i play at blackmore tennis club during the winter, and richmond hill lawn and tennis club in the summer. i went down to L'amoreaux a couple of times to get my racquet strung.

Hmm maybe I'll drop by the local Sportchek and see if they have the regular Nike polo to compare this one with. Good tip, thanks :D

Can't says I've heard of Blackmore, but I def. frequent Richmond Hill often... Or, Rich Man's Hill, as us Scarboronians jokingly call it (;

sport cheks suck for nike polos and tennis apparel. trust me, i work at one :)

hahah... yeah, i go there frequently to see if they have anything, but they never do

they always only have a tiny section for tennis shoes. then again, you won't be able to find tennis shoes at foot locker, champs, or athlete's world either... ugh, that's the one thing i dislike about living up here.. :p
