Mis-tweeted as Vapor Pro 2s:

agreed - what happened to the traditional herringbone on clay shoes? still keeping a pair of vapor 9 clays mint for this reason

The NXT is not great but it's better than it looks like it should be on clay. The cages are like ice skates. The pros are the best on clay that are not clay specific.

I just don't feel excited about any of these shoes. Aesthetically, the Vapor 9.5 puts these to shame and I have serious doubts about their performance given Nike's failures in recent years.

Used the 11s for 3 sessions now and really enjoying them. A nice balance between cushioning, breathability, and speed. To reiterate, though, they are very much not 'Vapors' in the traditional sense.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out the difference from a vapor pro 2 and a vapor 11. Does one play faster ? more durability?

The Vapor Pro 2s felt like a cheaper version of the 11s, at least from my limited usage. Can't confidently say anything about which is faster / durability but they feel like they're within the same line and the most noticeable difference is the upper, where the 11s are softer and more breathable.

If the Vapor 11 had the swoosh in a more regular position and didn’t have that rubber containment covering almost the whole midsole cushioning I would’ve bought four pairs.

Very close to being an absolutely awesome shoe but just misses the mark slightly for me because of the stiffened midsole and continuing the current Nike obsession with cropping the bottom of the swoosh.

I love the colourways and the design of the upper is fantastic.

The swoosh seems like a silly reason to not buy something you clearly otherwise like enough to buy 4 of otherwise

such great points. that swoosh design is brutal and the encased midsole is a BS move. literally takes away so much feedback and only prioritizes durability

I don't understand why Nike markets so many shoes as being good for sliding on hard courts when the vast majority of recreational players don't slide...not even the all the pros slide on hard courts. I'm a 4.5 player and I can't ever remember playing anyone, of any age up through the 5.0 level who was actively sliding on hard courts...the vast majority of recreational players can't do it; they can't even slide on clay. *Of course those hard court sliders are out there, but how many are there?*

I just think Nike fundamentally "doesn't get it" from a functional point of view. it's baffling because it's not that complicated in my view: For the premium sneakers, have a durable, 6-month outsole option for bigger players and aggressive movers who are tough on their shoes (call it the "Cage" for example). For players who want a speed shoe, create a shoe that is fast, light/breathable and stable (call it, say, the Vapor 9.5 ) and for players who want a lot of cushioning, create something with a full length air unit/cushioning system (call it something that makes sense like the Court Shield). Make sure they run true to size and maybe even offer them in different widths and different outsoles. Make one or two of them with an outsole designed for sliding on hard courts and clay outsoles for the North American market. Make sure your pros like them and want to play in them as opposed to older, better sneakers and there you have a winning formula.

Yeah, ive never understood the sliding on hardcourt marketing. My guess is they are going after high level juniors. Juniors these days are insane with how fast they tear through shoes. The higher level juniors do tear through upper material that isn't durable from "sliding". But i would call it "moving very aggressively" and not "sliding".

Junior players love the vapors and ubersonic. That is mainly what they wear from my experience. But it is odd when TW does these reviews and they say "Great for sliding on hard courts!". like its some normal thing that everyone is doing..

I was going to mention the same thing. young players are sliding all over the court, but dont think thats even 50% of the market

Exactly.

Absolutely. Sure high level juniors are sliding, but I've played a few UTR events in the past couple of years against some high school and college-aged players, and I haven't seen anyone sliding at these events. I just think it's such a minority of players that are doing that, especially in the United States where most players haven't even played on red clay. I think it's probably 10 percent of the market at best.

They market it because pros slide and everyone wants to be like the pros whether they can or not.

Just like how they market racquets for “power” when the vast majority of amateurs can’t actually hit consistently with power. Knowing they have the ability if they were able is enough.

Funny, I have a slightly different experience at UTR events. Lots of sliding.

i agree sliding is pretty prevalent amongst younger and more skilled players, but the marketing of it seems odd. Especially when they don’t put any R&D or effort into cushioning for any shoe in the lineup. I’d think protection for our ligaments and joints should come before a performance feature that doesn’t provide value to most consumers

Also that traction pattern between the vapor 11/pro 2 seems pretty minimalistic. Some type of data derived traction pattern. Legit shallow herringbone across one direction. Like they took the easy way out

seems like pros are pretty split

VP2 - alcaraz, rune, sinner, shapo, kvitova

vapor 11: musetti, andresscu, rublev, svitolina, kyle edmund

still wearing vapor pro: fritz, kygrios

vapor 10: madison keys

9/9.5: bencic and dimitrov

probably missed a few, not sure on khachenov azarenka and raducanu

I think Sinner is still in Zoom Zeroes, but I believe Khachanov and Azarenka are in VP2 and Raducanu in the 11. I do remember Kyrgios testing the Vapor 11 in Turin but don’t know if he’ll stick to them.

Just checked instagram sinner is back to zz, good shout

seems like almost a 50/50 split

How is the toe box on the Vapor 11 compared to the original Vapor Pro? Or compared to the 10's?

The initial iteration of the Vapor Pro's had too narrow of a toe box for me.

i am being told this is the update to NXT ?? i am really confused now, i thought these were the updates to nike Vapor 10 ?
I believe in one of the YouTube videos TW posted, Michelle said that the Vapor 2 is the continuation of the vapor x whereas the vapor 11 is the continuation of the vapor nxt.
