Speaking of double socks....what are ya'll wearing??

I like features for my first layer. I used to have these super thin under armour socks that i liked for my second layer but they've all worn out. Not really happy with anything i've found recently. I don't want to wear two full padded tennis socks, that's a little too much....but want a lighter/thinner exterior sock.

wonder what the longevity will be on these (hopefully not like the other vapors where they wear out in a month).

I would not expect anything too durable... but that was never something the "true" Vapors offered.

If you play regualry these will get smoked. I am surprised more people dont practice in a durable shoe and save Vapors for match day

Yeah, this is something I am a bit divided on, because when you really dial into a shoe do u really want to use anything else; and isn't practicing with the equipment you will use in an actual match rather important?

OTOH, there's that $ issue.

Right. On one hand go for it. On the other hand... do 3.5-4.0 groundstroke drills really need the Vapor performance? lol

Yep, I practise in ZVC4s & play matches - at least ones where I hope it might actually make a difference lol - in Yonex E4/5s.(y)
For a long time I too used the ‘Gino Formula’, but apart from the downturn in ‘perceived mobility confidence’ regarding Vapor models in recent years, the Yonexes are somewhat more supportive for my aged feet, albeit there’s a commensurate loss of F1-ness.

At least for me, it doesn't matter what shoe it is. Almost every shoe I wear is done after about a month or month and half of playing. Also my feet are very particular and don't like switching between multiple shoes so for now I'm sticking with the vapor 12s for both practice and match play.
I'm just happy that I finally don't have to keep looking for vapor 9.5s and paying the extra price for them. Also I'll probably post a full review for me on how these shoes are once I tear through these and order another pair.

I always hit the sales, so my routine is 9.5 colors I don’t like (pink USO) to practice in then play matches in the 9.5 leather white and blues!

Speaking of the White/Binary Blue model, I am curious if anyone knows of a shoe marker that would allow me to color the red swoosh binary blue?

Not the best idea... that will eventualy come off and leave uneven color on the logo or might even bleed into the fabric around the painted area. Safest bet is to leave them as they are considering how hard will be to find a marker that hits the exact shade of blue

If you buy from TW do you still get the 30 day trial that Nike offers or do you need to purchase straight from Nike?

60 day policy is one of the main reasons I’ve stayed with Nike. Get to try em out risk free. I would definitely give other brands a try if this was possible. Can be hard to tell how good a shoe will be just trying on in store or at home.

NDC just released the slate blue color way but are missing the size I wanted to order and TW has is it still backordered lol. When I got my traditional size I thought they fit long and figured I'd return and try half size down. Oh well, I guess I'll order the bone white ones and if I like the shoe I will of course get other pairs lol. Shame because in person that slate blue color way is truly one of my favorite looking shoes for tennis.

Surprisingly Vapor 12 is a lot heavier than Barricade, and I was expecting the opposite hmm. Vapor 12 448g, Barricade 402g, also new, both without insoles. Insoles weigh 34g Barricade, and 24g Vapor 12. Barricade insoles are nice and quality, Ortholite, rubbery and firm, while Vapor insoles are just spongy and soft, cheap basically

Vapor 12 have a worse fit to my feet (medium, slightly flat), not so nice and tight in the midfoot as the Barricade, or Vapor Pro 1. Always with my custom orthotics, thicker than some retail ones, in the Barricade the fit is just right, tighter medially, orthotic is well supported, as was in Vapor Pro 1

I also prefer the oblique lacing on the Barricades, absolutely loved that on Vapor Pro 1 too, those had a nice tight fit in the midfoot and heel. Barricades have nice firm braided laces, vs the cheap mushy ones on the Vapor 12

On the Vapor 12 there's too much room medially, in the midfoot and heel, I can stick three fingers in there :sneaky:

So I try to really tighten the laces and it all feels a bit mushy, OK at best, while in the Barricades there's no need to tighten anything, it just fits

Soft padded tongue on both, I prefer the thinner neoprene ones, but both V12 and B are fine

Vapor 12 has a bit more space in the forefoot, better than Barricade, I'm always on my toes and I like it when they can spread nicely in low stance play, so that's a clear plus. Vapor Pro 1 had a pointy forefoot, I hated that, so this is great

Both are low to the ground, but Barricade is lower, and overall feels slightly firmer and more stable, despite being a lot lighter

So far my conclusion is that V12 is an identical type of shoe as Barricade, my kind of shoe, speedy stability shoe with a large stiff shank and outer frame, neither are too high nor clunky, both are low to the ground

Overall Vapor 12 feels slightly below Barricade in terms of quality, but for a much higher price. That has also been my overall experience with Nike vs Adidas in the last min 5 years, with all kinds of sportswear. Nice, but slightly worse quality that Adidas, or much worse sometimes, but always 50-80% more expensive. Nike usually compensates for cheaper quality with flashy design, which I often hate as I like unassuming styles, but I don't care too much how my tennis shoes look, I view them only as a tool with a clear function. Both Barricade and Vapor 12 look fairly plain to me anyway, just OK

which barricade? on foot doctor zach videos he has barricade 13 size 11mens at 424g and the vapor 12 size 11 at 426 so basically the same. maybe you got an off pair or maybe you were talking about vapor pro3 which is heavier at 451g.

Tough to compare a barricade with a vapor, totally different market segments and design philosophies. More appropriate comp would be something in the Uber range

I seem to really like mine. They seem super stable on the ground to set up and have the ability to drive through with your legs not to lose traction on the shot if that makes sense. Definitely able to slide well and the runners loop locks you in for sure great shoe! Look forward to more color ways!

Half size down fits me perfectly, odd but can't complain, excited to get them on court. Also that color way is horrific - teal with off white and dark brown wtf!

Vapor 12 are really nice, my opinion has improved a bit. Very firm cushioning in the forefoot, very reactive, like Vapor Pro 1, I really like it, but still not completely low to the ground. Court FF3 is higher still, also nice firm cushioning in the forefoot, but Vapor is firmer. Outsole material is also great, just how they touch the ground is nice, better than Barricade, which have a stiff plasticky feel for the outsole material and its contact with the surface

Upper has softened a bit, and fits well, no complaints, although on the medial side it could be slightly tighter. But Nike, and Asics, always had shoes that permit more inward pronation of the foot, so not surprising that they have more breathing room medially

Just like in the Barricade, I absolutely love the large stiff shank, wouldn't have bought them otherwise

Overall a winner, well rounded shoes, both for real competition but also comfy upper for just everyday tennis, 4.5 stars. I'm sure many pros will play with these. And they are probably relatively lighter in the more common sizes, my size is US13/EU47.5

I do wonder if Nike is planning any special collabs apart from the hypersmash. I thoroughly enjoyed the Jordan retro mixes with the 9.5 and the kygrios/kyrie shoes which were by far my favorite shoes to play in

the kyrie vapor x is underrated. that upper was a great design with the lotus flower midfoot band
