Why would (at the time) top 30 player need to fix matches? He'd presumably have to be in serious money trouble as at his current rankings he's still getting automatic Grand Slam main draw money etc. £120 000 for Wimbledon 3rd round this year, just for example.

He is in a domestic abuse case currently, it’s very possible if he’s found guilty he’s losing his career and sponsorships.

The only other explanation to this result v Mackie is that according to another poster his court date is tomorrow. That could unsettle anyone. Still don’t know what excuses that Karatsev performance.
