MARIN ČILIĆ!!!!

What a victory! What fantastic tennis!
Totally deserved winner. I expected as much, but not as easy as he managed.

Kudos to Nishikori, but like Berdych and Fed, there just wasn't any antidote to THIS mr. Cilic.
Quite Del Potro 2009-like. I am happy for him.

Congrats to Cilic for displaying his best tennis in the second week of the USO and completely overwhelming Berdych, Federer and Nishikori. Seriously dominant performance from QF onwards. Congrats to Nishikori for navigating through a tough draw and making the final. It felt so nice to see fresh new faces in the final.

Cilic bringing sexy back with that first strike 90's/00's tennis.

Maybe we are entering a new era of the aggressor prevails more times than not

Hats off to both players for a great tournament. Cilic was unplayable the last few rounds, well-deserved GS!

here's my effort..

Did I overlook it, or did The Champion, during the interview, neglect to acknowledge or mention his opponent?

Hopefully it was an over site.

Poor guy won so few tournaments in his career. We can't blame him for forgetting diplomatic stuff after he won what could be his 1 and only crowning achievement in his career.

STOP, make Cilic give this back. he does not deserve this and he always been a 2nd rate player. He never got any high praise from Nadal. Nadal said Nishikori is true top player, never said that about Cilic

The only players that could have beaten this Cilic are 2011 Djokovic and some version of pre 2009 Federer.

And maybe 2009 Del Potro.

Cilic has always played his best stuff at the US open, don't expect him to play this well consistently not going to happen.

Cilic played well but Nisikori looks a player who is half a step slower than his usual self in this final made Cilic game look like better than it is.

Absolutely. And English is not his mother tongue. It must be tougher for him than speaking in Croatian.

Were they really ?

Yep. The US crowd were absolutely terrible. Cheering Cilic errors and missed first serves. Screaming before a Cilic serve. Shouting throughout points, drunken rants, ETC. I wanted a Nishi win, but for a few moments, was cheering for Cilic, because of this sh1tty American crowd. Worse than the French IMHO.

Did i hear that right? He gets a 3million check? Didnt Serena get 4million?

Maybe because she won the US hardcourt tour (did she?)? Or because she's American? Or because nobody came to watch the men's final and they deducted their loss in revenue from the prize money?

any of which way, it should be KN in 3 or 4 or 5

ROFL. I fell for it! Epic Fail on my part. Cheerfully admitted. What a pathetic match of pushing from Pushikori. Cilic OUTPLAYED Pushikori from the back, plain and simple. THAT was what really happened. This was NOT a match about one player over powering another player physically, despite the 17 aces from Cilic. This was a match about a player who was too scared to do anything but push, hoping the match would somehow fall his way, and his opponent who simply stepped up, seized the day and took the match. I am sorry for tennis and embarrassed for Mike. Even Pushniaki tried and fought harder against Serena.

Just as I have believed for a long while, mens tennis is in a broken strata heading for a dead end. There is no second generation. There will be nothing but one time champions and weak, fraud number ones for the men from now on after the "strong man" era of multi slam dominating number ones.

the interviewer did no give the Gracious Marin opportunity to acknowledge the runner up. They gave him about 1 minute at which point they replayed the connors krikstein match for the 99th time.

Not at all. He just let Cilic dictate by engaging in CC rallies and not using his ability to redirect the ball all all. So Cilic would hit a big shot and take over the point.

Cilic wasn't going to get beat by consistency today. Kei didn't use his weapons.

It was a bit of both, early in second set it looked as if Nishikori is going to play stronger, I think he had break points he just couldn´t convert and he won his next service game very convincingly. A shift of momentum seemed possible eventually. However, Cilic won his next game to nothing by hammering 4 consecutive aces down the court. This effectively annihilated any hopes Nishikori might have had. Very powerful stuff indeed.

Congratulations to Marin and Goran! Very happy for them. He played like a champion and fully deserved his win. Great for tennis.

Kei will be back. He is too good to be kept down for long.

Well said.
Cilic played like a demon possessed, there was nothing Nishikori could do - in fact, exactly like Berdych and Fed got drubbed as well.
I really wonder where Cilic will go from here and how long he'll be able to sustain this kind of level.

That's why I was rather surprised to see so many people think Nishikori would win this match. Because he beat Djokovic? Well it may sound harsh, but as good as Djokovic is, he's surely not shown himself as unbeatable during the US HC swing, rather the contrary.
So I think the signs of what to come were clearly all over the wall. I guess a lot of folks just didn't want to see it.

i was rooting for Nish but i will concede that Cilic was much superior player that match. it may even be the case that the new Cilic is on a whole new level to Nish and to his own previous game!
