Nishikori is who we thought he was

Have you not noticed that Nishi's body has not lasted a full fortnight in a slam yet

The defeats you reference have much more to do with the former than nishikori being simply outplayed!

I don't really agree that Nishikori lost because he was injured, but in any case if what you say is true, then it's a lot worse for Nishikori than my diagnosis. His body can't take two weeks of slam punishment? As I noted, he should be at his physical peak right now. If he's getting worn down now, he's doomed in the future.

Kei is a great ball striker. I remember how he won delay beach tournament
at the age of 18(or 19?) as a qualifier beating a few top 10 players.
He is a great shot maker.

He got bullied, but if he made that drop shot in the tie break at 6-6 who knows what may have happened.
They would have been back on serve in the TB.

Nah, honestly, I don't think it mattered. Wawa might still have won the TB. He might have won the 4th. He might have won the fifth had he needed to.

Implying Nishi was the DS away from almost having the match, as he himself did as well, is a bit too much imo.
lol, I am absolutely loving this new poaster. I'd go as far as to say that he's currently the benchmark against which this new generation of trolls must be measured.

Also, Dimitrov is goat, obviously.
10chars!

Don't say I didn't tell you. :)

Let's be honest. Wawrinka and Raonic beat themselves in Queens. Nishikori was extremely fortunate to get to the U.S. Open Final. On a normal day, Wawrinka straight sets him like he did tonight.

I appreciate what Nishikori brings to the table, but he's a 5'9" counterpuncher who tries to play like a power player. He should be trying to win the French Open instead of trying play power tennis. Ferrer does the same thing and look at how his career has progressed. The only way I see Nishi getting back to even the SF of a major is if the men's field becomes substantially weaker as Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, and Wawrinka enter their 30's.

With guys like Raonic, Dimitrov, and Kyrgios on the way up, I don't see Nishikori winning a major. ;)

If Wawrinka wins the AO, your post becomes nonsense. Nobody can beat the Stanimal when he's hitting backhands and forehands like that. Didn't Stanimal prove that last year when he took down Nadal and the Djoker?

He has proven he can do it once. So far he has not proven whether he could repeat the feat. Until he does, the burden of proof is on him.

His AO-run last year stands on it's own merit. We know he posits the level even if he doesn't repeat it here.

Kei is clearly better than Grigor and Raonic and it is those two who need to prove they can do better than Nishikori, not the other way around.

Kyrgios has a lot of upside, but again, nothing he has done is comparable to Kei, both in terms of single tourney results, career, and state of their current games

Nishikori is 5'11 and 163 pounds. Ferrer is 5'9... And you said he'd crush Nishikori. LOL, look how that turned out.

The Ferrer comparison has one flaw. Nishikori has more firepower across the board, and since Ferrer has been able to consistently beat everyone other than the Big 4, it stands to reason that Nishikori can be in the mix as those guys move out of their primes.

Tennis fans need to recalibrate themselves to be ready for more competition and volatility at the top of the game. What has happened over the last decade plus with three guys winning almost everything is the exception, not the rule. I expect there will be 5-10 players at least who will fill the vacuum. Instead of 2-3 guys winning everything, there will be at least twice that many.

Wawrinka, Cilic, Berdych, Nishikori, Dimitrov, Delpo, Kyrgios, etc.

Along with Nadal, Federer, Murray, Djokovic as long as they remain viable, even after their peak years.

This! Nishi > Dimitrov

Nishikori does have some questions to answer when it comes to the tail-end of these Slams and he faces players with equally good baseline games but they get 15 extra free points in the match due to their serve, have more pure power and have a slightly superior aggregate of first strikes (serve + return). Where will he find his edge? We'll see.

And that will be his main problem. He was just overpowered yesterday. Serve is a liability IMO.
