Nishikori to Asics or Adidas

What would happen if Nike got involved in this? I know there's a lot of players that are "big stars" who are endorsing the products that Nike makes, but would it make more money over in Japan? (Even though Nike is a international brand and makes already big money)

Japan is not a big market at all compared to the rest of Asia, especially China. Nike already has Asia covered. It is diminishing returns if they were to spend money just to get additional presence in Japan.

Learn to read. I said: "...Uniqlo is a massive brand in Japan, surely much bigger than Adidas by sales without doubt..."

Uniqlo are a massive retail chain in Japan which sells everything a clothing-focussed department store sells: casual clothing, winter clothing, childrens clothing, underwear, off-the-shelf business wear etc. They would be many times bigger than Adidas in Japan. That is why they sponsor Nishikori. Japan is a market into itself and he is the #1 sports star in Japan. He is their Federer in marketing terms.

As a consumer market, Japan is not very big. You are confusing the size of their export-oriented economy with the size of their domestic market.

With a population of about 127 million, Japan is the 10th biggest country in the world by population and has a GDP per capita of 37KUSD which is just after the United Kingdom in the list. In fact, Japan is the third largest consumer market in the world according to Wikipedia:

A less durable outer sole would take care of "slipperiness", as durability for a PE targets weeks, not months of usefulness.

Guys come on! The Gel Res.(6)Is a great shoe! I experienced the slipperiness the first day or two but then it became a very grippy shoe on the hard courts. If you play on a fast hard court that doesn't get cleaned then I could see some of the complaints but even a mid to slow hard court the shoes are phenomenal!

Nishikori has left uniqlo as a clothing sponsor. he will not be returning to uni qlo

he will be head to toe adidas or head to toe asics

No, I am not. As Ozellman points out above, Japanese are huge consumers of smaller/cheaper goods and their population is 10th largest in the world - 50% greater than Germany, double or more than that of the UK, France, Italy, South Africa, South Korea etc.

Not only that Japan - more than most other countries - has a huge affinity for local brands which mean little elsewhere in the world. Uniqlo is a huge brand in Japan and Nishikori is basically their #1 sports start in a global sport. It would be a big investment to pry him away from his Japanese sponsors.

Seems like Kei is staying with Uniqlo. Their Japanese website is advertising him in his Aussie Open get up. Orange and White. Wristbands look funky.

I guess they managed to make a deal. I had heard that they couldnt agree on contracts and that adidas and asics were offering more than uniqlo wanted to. Maybe uniqlo ended up matching

I did some research and Kei's contract is indeed up. My thoughts U.S. that he will indeed stay with Uniqlo.
he had been in talks with asics and adidas for about 6 weeks before today, initially uniqlo and him had decided to part ways.

just shows you how crazy some business's can be, one day youve lost an asian superstar next day you have him back.

just imagine what rafa wouldve been like wearing joma and playing with a head extreme.

You know this how? By the time we know about any of this stuff the deal would usually by long since done - astute businesses don't leak their goings-on.

i have a friend that works with the pros sales reps. he knows most of the going ons, like yonex signing mmoh this week

he was a stringer at the french open and part of the tecnifibre stringers

Adidas NEEDS him after losing Murray.

Adidas signed Berdych so I think they're good on that front. I think they suffered more after losing Murray to Underarmor last year (or perhaps the biggest one, losing Djoko to Sergio Tacchini before Nole's rise to numero uno).

Partially true. Uniqlo isn't "many times" bigger. UNIQLO is basically cheap branding in Japan. It's popular because it's affordable. That said, Adidas is no slouch. I had to go over Adidas and Uniqlo sales numbers to confirm. Uniqlo posted a net revenue of 230 Billion Yen for 1st quarter of last year for Japan only. That's roughly 179 million Euros. Adidas's was 155 million Euros for Japan (both verified from their websites/press-releases). Couldn't find a more comprehensive earnings report for both but they are almost neck to neck in Q1 earnings. Outside of Japan, Adidas eats Uniqlo up big time.
