Nishikori to win US?

With Zverev out of his way, A terrible djokovic, an old federer and a nadal who isn't looking his best.

Is this his chance?

He won’t even win Tokyo later this year and you’re talking about him winning the USO?

I really want him to win it as skill wise he deserves it the most out of the lost gen (that is not to say he's skilful ENOUGH for it, just that he's the MOST deserving).

But he has to get through either of Federer/Djokovic first. He has a shot against this Federer but beating Djokovic is a tough ask considering their respective forms. There's no way Djoko bends over like in 2014. If he gets through the semi somehow he has a good shot.

Be very tough, unless Millman does him a favour.

I swear I placed a bet on Nishikori to win it about 6 months ago, but can't seem to find a record of it on my sites.

Kei has a great US Open record. 3 SFs, he has zero elsewhere. Only 2 top 10 wins in the other slams combined whereas here he has 6 wins v top 10 players out of 7 matches!

Last 4 appearances at the US Open:

F-R1-SF-SF*

Top 10 wins:
2008 - Ferrer ( his breakthrough)

2014 - Raonic, Wawrinka, DJOKOVIC,

2016 - MURRAY

2018 - Cilic

That 2014 run was pretty underrated tbh for a non Big 4 player. More impressive than what any of the other lost gen have ever done.

His issue is djokovic. I don't mind his chances vs rafa and Del Potro.

He has also done well since recovering from injury this year. He deserves some credit.
Agreed. Djokovic is by far his greatest hurdle. He does all the things Nishi can do except slightly better.

We'll he's just two matches away and he's proven he can beat Djokovic at this stage, so it's foolish to count him out completely. OTOH, I'd consider any of the other 3 players in the SF to be more of a favourite than Kei
