Are those really piracy sites though? Isnt it just watching TV on the net? Its just a question.

Regardless, if these are the rules, then these are the rules and I'll abide by them.

yea it is basically watching tv on the net, until one person wants money. for some reason, when money is in the equation everything goes to crap

Still doesn't answer the question of whether it's actually illegal in any form. Ah well, TW is a merchant, they need to keep good relations with those official type of people ;)

Wimbledon has a very good reason for stopping this stuff: They don't want so many people seeing how boring Wimbledon is this year, how they've turned it into just another baseline bashfest.

I fell asleep during the 5th set of the Safin/Gonzo match! Even that Nadal match was just a little bit above meh for me.

Just as a note for anyone wanting coverage though: Wimbledon has dropped the prices since the first week is over, full coverage for the rest of the week is now $13. For all the matches ot be played live and all the previous matches from last week, if that's not a deal I don't know what is.

As for Wimbledon being boring.. I personally disagree. This has been rather exciting for me, just watched the Hewitt/Ferrer match and wow, great stuff. Maybe you just need to open your eyes and accept some change ;P

Probly is illegal as The All England Club holds all the rights to the reproduction and distribution of the matches. The only people who are able to distribute to broadcast it are the people who signed a contract with The All England Club. Also the contract will state what they are allowed to do.

They'll want us watching when a Brit wins Wimbledon, which is never. Andy Murray doesn't count, he's Scottish. It's like Americans rooting for a Puerta Rican.

Hang on there, andy murray does count as a brit because he's from scotland as scotland is part of the united kingdom of great britain.
If you had said, he doesn't count cause he's not ENGLISH, you'd be on the right track, but he is british. There is no comparison between scotland and england and american and a south american country as the situation is totally different.

Well, YouTube is still awash with wimbledon clips. Iif anything, they are the ones who should be told to remove it, not those who just post the url to youtube. It's as if someone sets up shop selling merchandise without proper permit, and they are left alone. But a local guy giving directions to the shop, or pointing to it on a map, gets threatened and is told to keep his mouth shut or else.

Whatever it might be that's illegal about showing Wimbledon footage, it's not the URL that's illegal. The url is just a string of characters. If they want something done, they should deal with YouTube and have them remove it. There is nothing illegal about posting urls, for Christ's sake!

this thread is hilarious. and i think deuce meant rooting for a Puerto Rican. which, by the way, is an island in the caribbean, not a south american country. hilarious!

Well, what has Tennis Warehouse got to do with Wimbledon anyway?.. Shouldn't TW decide what is allowed on its own site?..

If Wimbledon are paying TW to do this, I could understand. But in all honesty. What has TW got to gain by agreeing to their request?

If they don't owe the All England Club anything. Then growing some balls may be in order me thinks?

Um yeah well...

The All England Lawn Club can just go suck a u know what. If they have enough money and eliteness to deny former Wimbledon champions membership because of religion, then in no circumstance do I have sympathy for their financial situation, especially regarding something that should be free anyway. So in other words, the can go F*** themselves.

Fortunately, it is extremely easy to find these live feeds. Trying to censor the internet is a fools errand.

Useless, since one can find any tennis match as Torrents. Try any one of Torrents search engine and you will find whatever you want and despite that its legal because they are just Torrents search engine :)

I think they just don't want the matches shown live. As far as downloading the matches thru torrents, i don't think anyone cares.

No, it's still not legal.

It is legal for the torrents engine to exist, since they are not distributing the material. It's still illegal for whoever is uploading or downloading the material. That's how I understand it.

Now, nobody really cares about torrents of tennis matches, but that doesn't make it legal, I don't think...

Just use YouTube; cannot expect TW to risk infringement action. Also tons of highlights etc. on Stage6 . . . .

This is very encouraging .... perhaps if those in the know with the power to make changes are watching these threads, our comments will have some influence :)

Maybe Mary Carillo is on the way out, LOL

well, at least they could actually *show* the matches

I don't blame tennis warehouse for wanting to avoid copyright lawsuits.

But this is such crap. NBC and ESPN don't show many of the matches, even high profile semifinals. The Wimbledon website doesn't work with Macintosh. They aren't giving me many options. Basically, they're saying that they won't show it on a tv channel I can access, and they won't netcast it on a system that works with my computer. Oh, but respect our copyrights and "don't be a pirate", because that would be, you know, wrong.

They really are jackasses.

Ya, I had a message on the PC folder of my Macintosh and it said to upgrade to I.E. whatever ... I did that and then my Media Player would NOT work at all, did before ... then they demanded that I check the version of X P Professional that I have (which I bought WITH a license off e*B*y for $100) and they said that was invalid.

Soooooo I had to pay $150 US to upgrade my X P Professional in order to use anything on my Windoze emulator .... THEN another $25 for Wimby Live ... so it cost me $175 just to be able to watch on my computer what the networks are too ignorant to provide good coverage of ...

but things could be a lot worse, I might not have had the $175 like many folks and not gotten to see most of Wimby at all.

This is suuuuuuch a racquet~ and I am not talking about the one on the tennis courts.

This is the first time I've seen this thread...perhaps it's because I never venture into forums through the sub-categories and simply use "New Posts" all the time.

Anyway, I've just got to say the policy hasn't been very strict.

so... while wimbledon is NOT happening, what sort of site would have such a service?

if you want AV piracy sites of the other kind, i've got a couple

Love Game

Talk Tennis Guru
5 games, 3 breaks of serve

delpo serving 3-2

I live in a tower block overlooking Wimbledon, and I can watch the tennis out of my window. Sky pay for rights, and charge viewers. Am I stealing their IP if I don't pay for a licence?

No

No

I live in a tower block 1000 miles from Wimbledon, but I have access to a NASA satellite downlink. Sky pay for rights, and charge viewers. Am I stealing their IP if I don't pay for a licence?

Yes

I live in a tower block 10,000 miles from Wimbledon, but my friend records it from licenced Sky and posts me the video-tapes. Sky pay for rights, and charge viewers. Am I stealing their IP if I don't pay for a licence?

No*, but your friend has violated his agreement with Sky and can expect a rap on the knuckles.

No*, but your friend has violated his agreement with Sky and can expect some serious jail time.

I live in a tower block 10,000 miles from Wimbledon, but my friend records it from free-to-air TV and posts me the video-tapes. Am I stealing anyone's IP?

No*, But the copyright act only allows taping of FTA TV for timeshifting use
by the person who tapes it. The recording can only be kept until it is viewed.

For a minute there I thought someone actually had a flat overlooking the courts.

All sounds complicated, I will go for the hot air balloon option.

Hey, it's gotta be pretty cool that your site is well known enough that they contact you about this. Personally, I would have demanded that they do something silly just to mess with them (like mail me some grass clippings from center court).

Here's a link to live streaming: [I was thinking about putting a rickroll here but decided against it]:)
