Del Potro beat Nadal and Federer back to back at the 2009 USO.

Djokovic beat Federer and Nadal back to back at the 2011 USO.

No one ever beat Djokovic ans Nadal back to back at a Slam. One of the hardest tasks in tennis definitely.

I wonder if you would have given Fed the adequate credit had he managed to do it last year.

Federe cleaned up after they destroyed each other at 2009 Madrid; does that count for something.:sneaky:

The tails that would have been told at 2019 Wimbledon.:-D

Well, his body did hold well in a long 5 setter against his 32 year old opponent. It was the mental that let him down, the same scenario he faced in 2010/2011.
True it was the mental part who let him down in the final.I was talking in general though :)

If Federer had a chance in 2007 or 2006 Wimbledon, he probably would have. The problem is that Djokovic wasn't even around in Federer's peak. If he had been, Federer would have a legitimate chance of performing this feat.

On the flip side, Djokovic was able to make it to the semis in Nadal's peak FO year, and Federer was able to make it to the semis in Djokovic's peak year at the USO. And if a 39 year old Federer could come a point away from doing it, a peak grasserer would have no issue beating a pre-prime Djokovic.

Federer played 31 Slam matches against Djokovic and Nadal (1st and 3d most prolific rivalries ever). He had his chances.

Yes, and in his prime, he beat them 4 times. They were not consistent enough to make it to the later stages in all 4 so that he could do it back to back in his prime.

Federer was so close to achieving this tremendous feat as a 37 year old, proving that age is just a number. (y)
Sounds like a response to "Stop, I'm only 15"

EDIT: Yep, this one will probably get me banned. Can't say I don't deserve it. I apologize for being a terrible human being and writing that. So long, folks.

How many times has the situation even occurred for this to be possible?

Theyll definitely finish #1 and #2 in some order.
i would give 50/50 at best for djo here... and that's far from calling it definitely, plus including here this pandemic factor which could reduce his chances, not the other way around

It will be interesting to appreciate when someone does.
I give it 2 more years to break this statistic.
:)

Lew's entire gimmick is twisting stats in an arbitrary manner. It's one of of the most disingenuous forms of trolling this board has yet come upon.

No, no, the problem is that Fed fans decide which stats are arbitrary and which ones are not. It’s actually one of the most disingenuous forms of trolling this board has yet to come upon.

I wish Lew knew how to riposte the idiocy he gets when he posts his threads.

Yeah, if you remove the slam restriction, quite a few guys have beat Ned/Djo back to back.

Nalby 07 as mentioned above, Ferrer 07 TMC, Roddick 08 Dubai, Davydenko 09 Shanghai, Soderling 09 WTF and Fed 10 WTF.

Ljub also beat both at 10 IW but it wasn't back to back.

Fed 2010 WTF beat Murray, Djokovic, and Nadal!

so close in AO2020
Some really great upside from Thiem the last few years as I thought he would speed peak at age 23/24, but I'd say his speed peak was IW/early clay last year at age 25.5. Strength and stamina peaks yet to come so good times for the Thiem loyalists.

No one was able to beat Fed as many times as he beat himself. That's one of the greatest performances in tennis :D
