Hello folks.

Rod Laver Cup is a disrespectful event towards the other tournaments played that same week (Metz, Saint Petersburg).
We have small tournaments like these two that struggle to survive, and now we have this exhibition bringing big dollars to the table, this is totally unacceptable and unethical in my opinion.
Now I am aware the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will never play Metz or Saint Petersburg but we had other players like Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe playing Rod Laver Cup while they could play a real event.

Small tourneys should not suffer from this kind of competition, rules have to been implemented by the ITF.

At least IPTL was played outside the tour calendar.
Hopefully Rod Laver Cup, either disappears next year or is played in early December.

When can the Lavar Cup be scheduled then? Don't post something sucks or is unethical without at least giving some alternative solution.

If there is no other date then let the best product and free market win

Nobody playing in Laver Cup is likely to be playing in Metz lol

Not sure when else they'd schedule it that would be any better.

No seaport.

I enjoyed the Laver Cup more than I did Shanghai/Paris/WTF.

Probably due to its freshness and chill tennis.

Guess we'll see how it fares in the future though.

Did not read my post either it seems, I mentioned Denis Shapovalov, Frances Tiafoe, I could also mention Dominic Thiem.

Is it too difficult to read ten lines of decent English about tennis these days? Are you guys that busy that you cannot make the effort? Why reply then?

Other opinions? :)

I agree small tournaments shouldn't suffer. Edit: Although the players from Laver cup may not participate in Metz otherwise, that doesn't give ATP the right to take away the tournaments' right to get the best players. If ATP gives countries right to host tourneys and put in a rivaling tournament by themselves, what's the use of a governing organization? They might as well lead all tourneys. Its not the question of whether players would go to Metz or not otherwise; its the question of professionalism. And ATP isn't displaying theirs in this case.

They could schedule it along with hopman cup - hopman is anyway not points rewarding and players can choose what they want. It will also be a good start to the season with a exho/gala like exposure.

Laver cup and the mentioned tournaments are not in direct competition with each other. 95% of the players who would play at the Exo would either way never going to play Saint Petersburg or Metz.
Its like saying that ATP events are bad for the Challengers just because 20% of their field are eligible to enter the later
You complain just for the sake of complaning which is a very bad habbit IMO.

December could maybe work but might be hard to swing given that's the one full month of the year that's actually vacation time for them.

Big name players never played those small tournaments anyway. so it really makes no difference

Did not Jo-Wilfried Tsonga play several times in Metz, while he was still a strong top 8 player?
How about Dominic Thiem who played Rod Laver Cup, he could usually play these small tourneys, don't you think @Nostradamus ?
I appreciate your input.

It’s a whinge argument and I would just add that life is not fair.

Metz or Saint Petersburg are not particularly exciting. The Laver cup was very exciting.

When will the ATP realise that they do not own tennis. Federer does.

I do agree that the Laver Cup should really not conflict with other ATP tournaments.

Even if the players participating in the former are unlikely to be participating in the latter, it would fragment online viewership. Smaller tournaments need every view that they can get.
