No tennis player believes in himself like Djokovic does.

Djokovic going into 2023 Roland Garros with his horrendous clay results

Let's also not forget that he's been always clear about his goals and ambitions. Even when everyone thought it was mission impossible for him to get near 17 and 20 after that, Djokovic believed he could claim and own the slam record for himself and he f*cking did it!

Truly, the Greatest!

Of course, the absence of Nadal, the greatest winner in the history of the tournament and that the number 1 in the world suffered from cramps in the match that both played in the semifinals, helped him a lot "to believe in himself".
:sneaky:

His reaction to beating Berrettini in the 2021 QFs will always stand out to me. It was not just his reaction to winning the match and getting yet another shot at Rafa, but also an expression of his understanding the importance of finishing the Berrettini match in 4 (taxing-but-manageable) sets. In each of his 3 prior matches against Rafa on clay, he came into the match with something less than a full tank (2019 Rome F: back-to-back 3+ hour night matches against Schwartzman and Del Potro; 2020 RG F: grueling 5-setter in the SF against Tsitsipas in extremely slow, heavy conditions; 2021 Rome F: weather delays required him to finish his QF and SF matches the day before the final).

Obviously even a completely fresh Novak is an underdog against Nadal at Roland Garros, but he knew immediately after beating Berrettini that he'd have the best opportunity he'd had in a while to dethrone the King of Clay, if only for one year.

You forget that most of the second semifinal was played under conditions more favorable to the Serb's game.
Both the first semifinal and the final were played under a radiant sun, something that Nadal would have liked to have in his favor to quickly dispatch Djokovic and that could only be seen at the beginning of their match at RG 2021.

Nope, didn't forget that. Novak needs a lot of things to go his way to beat Rafa at Roland Garros. There's no doubt about it.

That Nadal was the third seed didn't help much and RG's organization "did the magic" for them to meet a round early.

Man, what a joke W2021 with the pathetic fools called Shapo and Berretini, I mean how sad could tennis get?
Berretini has an 82.5% winning percentage on grass and 4 titles. Don't crap on him because he's a legit grasscourter. It sucks for the game that he's struggling with injury and setbacks, and it was terrible last year he had to withdraw because of covid.

What I am wondering is what did Wimbledon 2021 have anything to do with this topic at all lol...

He also has more all around ability than anyone else too between defense, offensive, mental department. So its easy to see why hes confident LOL. He has one of the best serves in the game, he has always had far and away the best defense of any player ever, and his offensive game is nothing to scoff at. He can do it all. Everyone else has weaknesses. His only weakness was the overhead. Which is isn't used much anyways
