0-2 when he should have been at 19 this year. Probably still an AO left for him but with 4 slams to make up for it and SinneGoat on the move is his time running out?

His time is running out. He can only get out of so many 5 set matches with Thiem and Tsitsipas. He really messed up his chances by defaulting at US Open and not winning here.

He could have been at 19 had he not gotten DQ'd at the US Open and had Wimbledon been played. Is that what you are talking about? Because we did have a FO and he just lost.

He won’t get the slam record now. In my view. I think Nadal will have the slam record in end of the big 3 careers. However, Novak’s career is still amazing and will have more chances for another slam. For me though Novak needs to start prioritising majors and especially Aussie open and Wimbledon. He needs to play a bit less at the smaller events and keep himself fresh. Rafa scheduling here was perfect and that’s what Novak got to start doing.

If I was Novak I wouldn’t focus on clay as much. He’s not winning another french open. He needs to focus on where he got more chances. Aussi open is crucial for Djokovic but I worry a little bit for him mentally after this. I think a break from tennis will be good for Djokovic. I say he may match federer but that’s still a challenge especially if roger gets another. My expectations are lower now but for Djokovic a break from tennis won’t be so bad. He can reset and come back fresh for Australia next year.

coming into the final he was on a hot streak having won cincinatti and Rome (and should have had USO to boot). I don't think he could have had more momentum to take the FO this year??Clearly he didn't whilst ned skipped the whole season, got dropped in rome and the "conditions" were supposedly against him ROFL. I don't think noel will get to another FO final unless ned retires after 25 RG titles and its mug season

There are only 2 guys that can win slams and Djokovic is better at 3 out of 4 of them.

By this time next year, it will be 21-20-20 (well, I'll have to look at Wimbledon's pandemic insurance policy)

Nadal is in total poll position now. 2020 was a disaster for Novak. Wimbledon canceled. Default at USO. This final. Just devastating for his chances in the slam race. Nadal will basically seal the GOAT with an RG 2021 win.
Nah. Gotta win somewhere else too.

Has to outdo Nadal by 4 by the end of their careers for the sole record.

This result more or less confirms to me that he won't end up with the outright Slam record as he won't go 4 better than Nadal from here on when Nadal has Roland Garros as CASH MONEY.

Could see Nadal sneaking 1-2 more Slams off clay... let's be conservative and say 1, and 3 more RG titles, for 24 Slams.

I guess Djokovic will end up on about 21.

Can Djokovic get to 21? Yes. As of now he's still the clear favorite at 3 out of 4 slams.
But I don't think Nadal will stop winning slams so 21 likely won't be enough even if he gets there.
I think Djokovic is only slight favourite at aussi open and Wimbledon. However, the gap is closer on hard courts with the field to Djokovic than it is for Rafa on clay. Novak needs to win Australia 2021 to stay in the slam fight. It won’t be easy though as Thiem is very good on hard courts now, federer back fresh, Nadal will be dangerous there and other plays like Tsitsipas, medvedev, Zverev are all improving.

Wimbledon might be Novak’s best bet as the depth of field not as strong but we can never write off federer there. As for us open no one is favourite there and is the most open slam as the winner changes every year. I think it’s going to be difficult for Novak but we can never write him off.

He is still big fav at the AO and Wimbledon and also 50/50 favorite at the USO. Sure he does not get younger and four more slams seems hard but let’s not forget that the next gen isn’t exactly pushing here. If it wasn’t for the big three being absent at the US Open we would still not have seen any next genner in a slam final other than Med in USO 2019.

How is Novak the clear favourite at USO when he has won 1 of the last 5 editions?
2/4 , The US Open is a toss coin. Novak has struggled too much there

Sorry I meant to say clear favorite at 2/4 slams and a slight favorite at USO. Yes, I would have Djokovic as the favorite at USO over Nadal, despite not having as many USO titles as him. At the end of the day it's still hard court and Djokovic is better on hard than Nadal. And he likely would've tied Nadal were it not for that incident this year. The USO is definitely the most wide open of the slams though, so the field has their best chance there. But if I had to pick one to win, I pick Djokovic.

The next gen is nothing compared to them so I expect both Novak and Rafa to win slams.
Novak at AO and W
Rafa at FO and probably USO.

As for Roger, he needs many things to fall in place ato win at Wimbledon. At hard court slams, I don't think he can win at this age.

At the end it will be very close between Novak and Rafa

He'll need 22 at this point. Nadal unlikely to go from winning RG without dropping sets to losing in 5. And it likely won't be Novak but Thiem or insanely a guy like Zverev or Tsitsipas.

I see at least 2 more AO and grass by default but I don't know about USO or FO. That would put him at 21. So I guess it depends on next couple USOs.

He has very little chance.

Barring injury, Rafael is almost certainly going to win FO 2021. There's nobody on the immediate horizon who can stop him on clay.

We're not looking at 20 anymore, but 21+.

I really hope Rafa ends up with the most GS titles but I feel Joker has a very good chance at winning more. Unless there is a next generation that steps up or Joker gets injured he has an excellent chance of winning the most GS’s.

He can win 3 more, but stopping Nadal at RG? no chance for the next 3 years atleast.

Although I have a feeling Nadal won't win any slam apart from RG from now on
People keep saying that and then he keeps winng the US Open.

Nadal is a contender at all the slams. He probably only needs Djokovic to lose before the final to win the Australian Open again.

Let's stop trying to PREDICT the future. If someone can do it, please tell me where the Stock Market will go in the next few years, so that I can make some money.

No one knows what will happen and who will be GOAT. For now, let's be grateful that we have 3 great champions in the same era. I will be very sad when big 3 retire.

Novak's chance is greatly hurt in 2020, not by this RG loss, but by the cancellation of WB and DQ at USO. He should have been at 18 or 19 by now.

The younger players are getting better and importantly gaining more experience in final stages at majors. And Novak is showing decline in AO2020 and now RG 2020. I think he can still get to 20. But Nadal is running away with RG alone, at least 2 more.

It would take a miracle for Novak to surpass Nadal, and likely 23+ GS.

Nadal still has two more French opens in him minimum. The next one is in May which is very soon (assuming no cancellations).

That’ll take him to 22 maybe more if he is lucky.

Djoker got to win 5 to match nadal. Going to be tough. The other players especially Thiem will snatch a few.

Still very high. Though I hope that Nadal destroying him like this will give other players some more confidence when they play against him. Because this year it really looks like players mentally don't believe they can beat him.

Djokovic has to win 4 more as it stands to surpass Fed and Nadal and that could be a tough order when he's 33 himself, just a year younger than Rafa.
It's not a gimme that he will at all as the Slams get harder to win.

All Novak has to do is win AO 21 and he’s right back in it. Anything can happen. He’s the best out of the 3 when on top of his game. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he won 3/4 next year.

I'm not as butthurt as I thought I'd be. Nadal was too strong in this final, Djokovic could have played better but that wouldn't have been enough to win the match. Overall I'm satisfied with Djoko's showing in this tournament, I'm glad he made it past the SF and hopefully he will be on fire in next slams.

At this stage I’d say his chances are more minimal. He has to win three next year just to tie Rafa & Roger and that’s on the basis that Rafa doesn’t win the French Open which as today proved is an almost ridiculous notion.

He’ll be 35 next year so age will eventually catch up with him. We also don’t even know if we’ll have four slams available next year due to COVID.

Roger is still not out of the game yet and Thiem could come back stronger as well. Rafa could also get another USOpen as well.

One thing is for sure. 2021 will almost certainly decide GOAT for sure

Tsits has shown up as a slam contender and we shouldn't forget Medly so easily as his stats were off the charts coming into US Open SF (58% points won at the event which is strong as death.) Rafa has only Thiem to deal with at RG as the only real threat so he's in a better position. Wimbledon Novak's safest bet now. Elsewhere he'll be softened up by the field more than the past amd vulnerable should he make another final.

djokovic can forget of winning the slam race, i think he knows that.

he must now focus on getting the weeks at number 1 record. this is the second most important record. and in few decades maybe there conception of slams will not exist, but there will be always number 1. so this record is very very important.

I agree, it's the second most important record in tennis after # of slams. Novak looks to be a lock now to pass Roger on that. Fed will regret not converting his MP's against Del Po at IW in 2018. Had he won that final, he would have padded his weeks at #1 by 12 more weeks.

That's exactly what he's been doing since 2011 and especially since 2015. He's openly said he completely prioritizes the slams over everything else. He doesn't need to start going it, he's been doing it for a decade now.
Yes but he still tries to win the others too much at times. I think it’s because he wants the weeks at no1. However, once he gets that he doesn’t need to play all these masters events. Plus I feel his Wimbledon and us open chances will be better if he plays a lighter schedule and doesn’t play Clay season or cuts it down.

Still has a decent chance. But after AO, he would have expected to be at least at 18 by the year end. He is not getting any younger and is not "unbeatable" by any means. He has to make a major push for it next year and hope the other two don't add to their respective tallies (Well, Rafa at RG, lol).
