Nole just went through Nadal, Tsitsipas, Musetti and Alcaraz for his gold medal!

Oceans II

Professional
Nadal - Still always Nadal. Probably still around the fringes of the top 10 on RG clay.
Tsitsipas - Good clay player. RG finalist and multiple semifinalist. Really has only lost to Djokoraz in big matches last few clay seasons.
Musetti - Good in form clay player. Only lost to Djokovic at RG, W and Olympics this season.
Alcaraz - Future GOATworthy player. RG, W champion this season.

Discuss.

Plus Novak is 37, his knee isn't the best, he needed this gold, Alcaras was heavy fav, and the draw was tougher than Carlos had
This is totally insane

Nadal - a shadow of his former self and on the edge of retirement.
Tsitsipas - hopeless choker. No-one ever believed he would beat Djokovic.
Musetti - good player but nowhere near Djokovic's class as Wimbledon already proved.
Alcaraz - the only worthy contender for the title and the only one in Djokovic's class.

Novak is 37.
Where are rest of big 4 dude ?

Tsistipas and Musetti are mugs. Nadal is washed and Carlos is no longer GOAT worthy. No need to build this up to be more than what it is. Djokovic is the GOAT and the competition is weak, that should be enough.

You said, not me, you said that winning 25th is a bridge too far. Do you still believe it? And if not, how could you lose faith based on some few months of poor performance.

Andy Murray said he wants Nole to win the gold, and he did.

Tsits at this stage of his career and Musetti are honestly clowns for someone of Djokovic's calibre. Nadal wasn't in any decent form. Only actual challenge was Carlos. Murray's 2012 was legitimately harder in terms of player calibre and form.

Still think Slam #25 is a bridge too far but, then again as we've just seen, whoever knows with Djokovic?

There is no letting down for Djokovic, the only slam that seems impossible to me is RG now. He can win every other slam at age 37. Not saying winning every but he is top 2/3 fav at every slam.
25 will happen most probably, and maybe 26/27 as well.

Federer and Murray retired, Nadal not far off. But you know this so what's your point?
My point is that you need to put anyone from big 3 in that draw and tell us what you expect.
You say it's piece of cake ? What else can you throw at 37 year old I can't understand you

All 4 are great clay players. Nadal is a shell of himself though so it really only looks good on paper when we add him.

Impressive as hell he didn’t drop a set. But there really isn’t any great clay court players around either now. Clay is looking like alcarazs weakest surface. Nadal has been washed up for 2 years. I don’t really count him now. Tsitsipas has been a joke for 3 years now

On paper, perhaps the hardest draw it could be. In reality the most impressive Gold might have to be Murray's 2012.

Wawrinka R1, Baghdatis R3, Djokovic SF, Federer F (on grass). Murray ends up winning in straights - dropping a single set to Baghdatis but not to Djokovic or Federer.
Del Potro in 2016 didn’t win obviously but had to go through Djokovic, Nadal, and Murray. And 10th ranked RBA. Crazy draw.

Never said any such thing. I simply commented on the calibre of Djokovic's opponents. If you disagree with my assessment of them please feel free to do so.

If Novak was 27 then I would understend yours Yes but...

Yes but 37 is really only a number for Djokovic. He is still capable of facing the top players in finals and beating them as we've just seen. That is no longer possible for any of the others.

Not a shock. He is superior to each of the named players on too many levels to count. Only the hiccup of a physical issue would turn the tables on himself.

He didn't win anything this year, his body starts to send signals he can't do this much longer, he gets injured more frequently. I mean come on, he is far from competing with Carlos and Janik on leveled terms. He can grab something here and there but only with inhumane effort.

Impressive I guess. He beat two non-mugs to win the Olympic gold...something he didn't do to win any of his 2018-2023 slam titles.

But that 'hear and there' can still yield the odd surprising result as we've just seen. You can never count him out.

Can Novak please retire now? I've watch him play so many times . . .
We haven't watch Novak against his top 2 current rivals, Carlos & Jannike enough!

We have this recent phenomenon. When a much younger rival beats him, Novak is way overrated and has been lucky in timing of his career. All Novak has done was luck. He missed the primes of Federer and Nadal.

And when Novak beats a much younger rival, it's because that rival doesn't belong in Big 3 territory, so Federer and Nadal are reflected in the glory also.

LOL!

You seriously call that a tough draw? Bizarre!

I’ll give you Alcaraz, as he was the only player who challenged him.

I think people need to be a bit more realistic on Rafa - you are correct - a shadow of his former self….

Musetti in the Olympics SF is the toughest draw? And then a B03 final against Alcaraz?

Murray had to beat Djokovic in the SF in London and then Federer in a B05 final.

Come on guys. Lmao.

Literally.

Murray had to defeat Djokovic in the SF in London 2012 and then Federer in a B05 final.

Imagine trying to compare Musetti and then Alcaraz in a B03 and say that's the hardest ever lol.

Nadal is not even close to still always Nadal. He's on his retirement tour right now.

Tsitsipas, Musetti - LOOOOOOOOOOOL

Alcaraz - Only good opponent he had to beat.

The field is just too pathetic. There isn't anyone besides Alcaraz consistently challenging for big titles.
