Non Poly Textured Strings?

Okay, so I've been looking for an alternative to polys, but can't help but want strings that give me an advantage when it comes to spin. I've been trying to pick up a chip and charge/serve and volley game since I'm getting more fit and really started working on my game. My diablos have great control and lets me volley pretty exceptionally(relative to my usual horrible performance) against nice ball strikers.

Looking for spinny non poly strings to try that are within a decent price range and this is what I have so far:

Head RIP Control 17 String - $9.50
Dunlop Hexy Fiber 17 String - $6.95
Gamma Ruff String - $7.95

Though at the top of my list are still BHBR17 and BHB7. I know I won't get as much spin, but what I really want is more feel with the same playability. HOpefully with a decent amount of EASY spin. I know spin is 89% technique, but I need all the help I can get... for a decent price anyways lol.

I also took a look at the powermaster strings from gosen and it looks interesting. Has anyone tried these before? What did you think?

These strings cost more then BHBR lol. If anyone has any idea which other textured strings are out there please let me know. Leave experience please!!

Mikeler has a thread with multi reviews. The rip control and hexy fiber are on there. Try to find that and check it out.

I've been trying many different non-poly strings to see which ones fit my game without killing my arm. I love poly for the spin and control, but if I can't play because of my arm, it's meaningless.

It sounds to me like you should try natural gut. I've tried RIP and Hexy, and they both have good spin for multis, but natural gut will give you more spin, feel, power, and dwell time than any multi. I've been using Klip Legend 16, and the durability has justified the price for me. I keep a spare racquet with multi or syngut just in case it rains.

If you would rather add another multi to your list with decent spin, you might try Prince Premiere Attack and Kirschbaum Touch Multifibre. Both those strings will have spin comparable to RIP and Hexy, and they are both durable with good feel for multis. RIP and Hexy have good spin, but both feel muted. RIP is stiff and harsh. Hexy is softer, but it doesn't last long. Be sure to wait at least 48 hours after stringing before you play. PPA and KTM play noticeably better if you let them settle for at least 2 days.

Does the tension drop in those 48 hours and stabilize a little?

That's essentially correct. Most of the drop will happen in the first 24 hours. I find if you don't let the string settle, it might move more in the string bed and lose a little bite.

I have just recently played with a full bed of multi. Not too experienced with it outside of hybrid set ups. Thats a good piece of information to think about next time I string a full multi job. Thanks

I forgot to mention, I tried RIP mains and Hexy crosses in the past. That was actually a pretty good combination. It was durable and it corrected a big problem I had with full bed RIP, which was touch. It was also a very comfortable setup. The feel was muted, but that might have contributed to the comfort. All of the strings I tried were 16 gauge.

I'd also try Pro's Pro torpedo. I have only hit once with it but it was very nice/spin friendly. The question will be how long it lasts?

I liked Prince Topspin Duraflex 15L. But I found that I would have been better off w/a little lower tension, as the spin I got from the string was dropping my shots short of the service line. Feel was good and I was able to measure the court well for flat hitting. In my 18x20 pattern, it felt sort of like a carpet with topspin shots. I'd like to try that string in a more open pattern. Overall, I found it very comfortable. A word of advice, the 16g is a lot less durable.

Did you get a good amount of spin from it? I heard RIP has a pretty big spin potential for a multi.

It gave me very good spin for a multi, but it's not as much spin as you'll get from a poly or poly hybrid. It's comparable to the spin you might get from natural gut.

Sounds pretty tempting to pick up a couple sets up each and try it. I hit with a lot of spin naturally so I don't think it would be a detriment to not have poly in the set up.

I don't hit alot of spin natrually. I can take the huge full western loopy topspin cut, but it definitely isnt my natural shot. Which is why I like bhbr16. Very controlled amount of spin and still allows me to really stroke all my spin shots with tons of assisted spin.

But I do miss the feel of non-polys. Which is why i was looknig into textured nonpolys. But its kind of hard to believe that there aren't any textured non-polys that cost less then or the same as a nice solid tourna poly.

I remember the wraps on Gamma Ruff come off very easily, especially on the crosses. If you use it, save yourself some $$ use a cheaper syn gut in the crosses. Nice feeling syn gut. Prince Topspin was a good syn gut too, but like Gamma Ruff, if it really does have any effect on spin it would be in the mains. I have a feeling that without the wraps those strings are just Gamma Syn Gut & Prince OG <- those would probably make good crosses

I am thinking either Rip Control or the Dunlop Hexy Fiber, or combination of both would be the way to go.

Dont wanna make a new thread so... Let's say I pick up a extremely textured string like Gamma Ruff or Dunlop Hexy Fiber.

Will it last longer if I put some durable, slippery mono in there like Dunlop X-Life? Some of these nylons never notch and I can just cut em out when I pop the mains. Though I don't want to sacrifice feel. Feel is the reason I want to leave textured polys.
