Non-sharp geared poly

Hey guys would you suggest some non-sharp geared options? I think of:
Babolat Pro hurricane tour
Weiss Cannon red ghost (might be a tad too soft for my liking, cannot test, just full reel available).
Völkl Cyclone (if I remember correctly it wasn’t sharp... but missing from local retailers’ stock)

Not exactly "geared" but shaped like Pro Hurricane Tour
RS Paris Octagon (I swear it's a round poly but it's advertised as octagon shaped)
Gamma Moto
Ytex PentaPower, Quadro Twist, etc. They have a bunch from Y-tex

are you looking for gear shaped strings or maybe 8/10 sided strings??
volkl.cyclone is actually pretty sharp, i feel it on my fingers when i string it..

Did you like Cyclone? I have a few sets of other gauges left from my tests if you want to try them.
You can order from the UK ( i'll give you the link).
The guys already had good prices plus Brexit discount making them even more attractive ))

The new KB Xplosive speed is shaped and not sharp. Great string. One of the most comfortable polys I’ve ever used.

Yeah true, it has some waves-like shape, but I already made the post when I checked the picture, so was lazy... and I just remember I held a racquet strung months ago by this string, and played a lot, and the stringbed wasn’t locked, still moving nicely! That’s my quest, I like smooth polys, but mid-stiff ones seem to cut into each other after a single outing. Some surface against surface contact might be better in this department. Meanwhile, taking into account stringers don’t get the strings 100% straight, any sharp option (like Yonex poly tour spin) has it’s mains edges cut into the crosses, and all the movement is gone right off the stringing machine :rolleyes:

I definitely didn’t like how the 19 gauge behaved. Strings got stuck displaced here and there, which is disappointing for a poly. I used 18 gauge for some time and don’t remember such behavior.

signum pro xperience and/or ytex quadro twist but quadro twist loses its shape after several hours while xperience maintains shape quite well

Pro's Pro says it compares to RPM Blast. But it costs a lot less. I've read though that RPM doesn't last long. So while PP S8 is a bargain brand, compared to RPM it both costs less and lasts longer. And the edges are definitely rounded.

Not presented locally :/ maybe should order some options. Damn, my family are in Montreal right now, could have ordered some stuff... they fly back tomorrow, so not enough time :confused:

Tried PHT 17G today (Yonex Ezone DR98 ~350g strung), strung at 23kg (~50.7lbs). Played decent, though nothing special. Not very stiff for my liking, no pronounced grip on the ball, moderate spin. Got notched after this session, displaces with clicks... will look how long it will last and when it will lock down and deaden.

if you have access to pros.pro, look into "devil spin"
not a fan, but it produces more spin than a 5sided string
it was stiff! and gear shaped, somewhat??!!!
lots of coil memory, check out the "pros pro" thread for more details, I belive I reviewed it..

I wonder if more elastic, softer poly would actually lock less than stiffer, dead ones? Should try also...

Hey fellowship of the string, reporting, went with 2 setups:
- Bab PHT 1.25 at 25kg;
- Kirschbaum Max Power 1.25 at 23/22kg;

The latter appeared thicker than your typical 1.25 string and also added ~1.5g extra mass to the stick. Played rather dead, muted, though not harsh thanks lowered tension, comfy hoop and healthy SW of my frame. Actually, was satisfactory, lasted long enough, didn’t notch much, but always felt a bit unfamiliar to my liking. I think I could make it my goto, though for now prefer more juicy feel.
Bab was very good - as expected, dropped quite a bit during first hit, then settled and lasted for several sessions without locking, stayed elastic and live, though consistent and firm-enough. Played like any decent mid-range poly if strung at 23-24kg. Got a reel for ~$115, settled for some time now.

If you ever decide to look up other options Polyfibre introduced a new shape in their line-up - check strings with "ribbed" in the name...
