Anyone hear of a non traumatic ankle sprain? I haven't.
Seem I played some old fart tennis yesterday, taking it easy and hitting 60% energy.
Afterwards, walked to the car kinda slowly, but was with a few of the guys.
Drove a few blocks, got out and noticed an overall slowness, but had to walk several blocks to various stores, all with the tennis shoes on.
Drove home as the good ankle, the right, slowly got stiffer, but no swelling or change in color.
Sat around for 4 hours watching NBA ball, ankle tender but walkable, even slow joggable.
Had a horrid night trying to sleep, ankle sharp pain, eventually passing out by 4AM.
Now it's swollen only at the inside ankle bone, and about an inch below, for 2"s of horizontal distance. Can't bend it 90 degrees, but it's getting better with some crutch help slow hobbling.
And it's red, about 1/8" swollen, tender and sore.
No tennis today, probably not even this week, as most ankle sprains should take more than a week to heal.

Sounds like a strain instead of a sprain. Maybe a pull or tear without separation. I've had these a few times from a slip or a stumble or worn shoes. They're usually gone in about two weeks (compared to 6-8 for a sprain) and the level of pain falls off a lot more sharply than a sprain. I usually wear an ankle brace and skip tennis though I will run.

I'd do something to try to immobilize it, whether an ankle brace or taping and stay away from activities that put a lot of strain on the ankle.

Thanks.
Last night, couldn't sleep till 4 AM, had to crab walk to the bathroom for my 2AM leak, something I've needed since age 14.
Got up this morning at 9 feeling no pain, but swelling and redness showed me there would be pain if I walked around.
Am crutching around the house today, won't play tennis until I can shuffle around, probably next week.
Just when my forehand is starting to come around.
I guess I can still shadow swing.

I understand that your pain is now on the inside part of your ankle. Is that where the symptoms initiated?

I ask only because sometimes an injury initiates in one area but then pain is experienced elsewhere.

I sometimes wear compression socks (like distance runners wear) to help manage swelling and pain in my ankle. The compression sock also makes it easy to do an ice wrap, as it's a nice thin layer between the skin and the ice.

Thanks.
Started with just general dull feeling in the inside of the ankle, no redness for at least 8 hours, a tiny bit of swelling just under the inside ankle bone around the 3 hour mark after leaving the courts. I actually ended the set feeling ready to play a third, but had to pick up g/f a few blocks away.
I get the same inside ankle pain on my left ankle, that's kept me from running since '07. But yesterday, I was playing easy, so the left ankle never got any pain or swelling. I had a long 4 hour hike planned for the afternoon. So much for plans of mice and men.

Thx...
Only happenned yesterday, and was fine until watching the NBA from 3-9PM's.
I'll see about wrapping and look for my ankle brace later today.
Weight bearing still hurts, so gardening tomorrow is a IF.
At least my bad ankle, the left, is feeling OK.

DID actually, great game, great to see OLD San Antonio play like they really are. Obviously, Kawai is a first team starter, but no other Spur can hold his jockstrap.
