Non USTA Tournament

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to tennis (3 months in now) and I'm really struggling to find any kind of leagues or tournaments to play in that don't require a USTA membership. I don't want to pay for a membership just for a chance to play in a tournament this summer. I was hoping to find one for June or July somewhere near Riverton, Wyoming (I know BFE right?). Anyways I was wondering if anyone had some insite on how to find a non usta tournament because everytime I try to google for a tournament it's USTA.

I'm not too familiar with the tennis scene in Wyoming, but you might try looking at local parks and recreation department calendars. Often, these organizations will hold non-USTA sanctioned tournaments. Another source might be junior colleges, who often do the same thing as fund-raisers. The problem with these events is that they usually don't market well beyond the local area, so it might be hard to find information on them.

Also, just to point out, the USTA's TennisLink site also lists non-sanctioned tournaments. Usually, you do not have to be a USTA member to play in a non-sanctioned tournament. To find these, go to http://tennislink.usta.com/TOURNAMENTS/Schedule_new/Search.aspx. Under Advanced Search, click the "Non-Sanctioned Tournaments" button, and then fill in your section (Intermountain), and click the "Search" button. I just did this, and didn't find any tournaments in Wyoming, but several in Idaho and Colorado.

Ah I didn't realize you didn't have to be a member to play in the non-sanctioned. Thanks for that! :) I've tried looking for calendars and things like that but couldn't find much. I guess the town is just too small here. Wyoming is pretty far behind the time anyways (I'm not from here, just for the summer). Thanks for the advice

You are in the middle of nowhere (tenniswise) and you have been playing tennis for 3 months. You do not need a league or a tournament. Go find yourself an instructor and a hitting partner. Work on you technique and consistency. You will be much better off doing that at your stage rather than trying to play tournaments- trust me. You are going to be there just for the summer anyways.

Yeah I know, and I have found some hitting partners. I just wanted a chance to play competitively and see how I did. I dont really expect to win but the idea is fun
