Normal to have poly mains not getting back in place with syn gut cross?

Or should it snap back into place even when paired with a syn gut? I've just tried this used frame I bought strung with Volkl v-torque mains and Prince syn gut duraflex crosses, and wanna know if my poly is ''dead'' or not. Thanks.

The surface of a normal SG is not as hard as a normal poly. Most SG are mono core with a coating/sheath that starts to shred rather quickly. This prevents the poly from sliding. The only way to tell if the string job is 'dead' should be based on hours used or, if tracked, the percentage tension loss (e.g. greater than 20% loss from original tension.)

So in other words, it would be normal to have the poly mains not snapping back into place even during the first hour, if hybrided with syn gut cross?

Yes Sir. You have the same problem hybrid users have when they use a multi or SG cross with poly mains. The sheath shreds and does not provide a smooth surface for the polys to slide on. If you want to experiment, try a SG main with round poly cross. The SG mains will snap back into place until they start to notch. Or you could try lightly oiling the string bed to reduce inter string friction. However, from posted accounts, the effect is short lived. If you like the feel of Nylon crosses, try Forten or Prince Nylon. I do not think they have any coating. HTH

Usually poly mains will snap back into place with syn gut crosses. I have had good experience using poly mains with Volkl and Gosen syn gut crosses. You may want to experiment with different tensions for the mains and crosses until you get something you like. Using a lube (silicone, wax, etc) keeps poly strings sliding. But, I suspect the lube decreases the string-to-ball friction. Another option is to use Ashaway Monogut ZX in the crosses. ZX acts like a syn gut, giving a little extra power and comfort, but is very dent resistant and keeps the poly sliding for more hours than does syn gut.

No I would not think that's normal for 1 hr of play but would depend on how much "good hitting" took place. I have found, rather recently that my shaped poly/syn gut hybrid did not last as long in regards to feeling "dead" and not snapping back as the full poly(same shaped poly).
