Norrie will finish what Gasquet started

In yesterday's match Gasquet had all the momentum as he won three straight games from 2-5 to level the second set at 5-5 against a rattled Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard was clearly nervous, sweating more than usual and had to use all his game antics to win the set. But nonetheless, this is a vulernable Nadal, a slower and weaker Nadal. And his next opponent is fully aware of that fact. 25 year old sensation Cameron Norrie is set to leave his mark in tennis history, just like Robin Söderling did 12 years ago. Critics may say that Norrie lost in straights to Nadal in Barcelona. But that was one month and a half ago. Since then Norrie has reached two finals (Estoril and Lyon) beating high quality players like Cristian Garin, Marco Cecchinato and Dominic Thiem. Last week he lost to the player of the year so far: Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, for experts it's clear Norrie is peaking at the right moment. Every little detail: the diet containing of solely fish & chips the entire month of May, the 20 minutes nap after lunch, the repeated viewings of Söderling's hammering forehands have all led to this moment - the dethroning of Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. Söderling lost to Nadal 6-0, 6-1 in Rome just weeks prior to the 2009 Roland Garros. History has a tendency to repeat itself, just ask Roger Federer on his thoughts on 40-15.

Norrie to win in 4 sets.

Nobody can keep up the intensity with Nadal on Chatrier. He can be slowed down throughout the match, but eventually the inevitable happens. He has multiple gears avaiable and he can switch them on and off, depending on the situation.21 is almost as sure as death and taxes, it is how it is :D

Diego took 12 games from Nadal at last year's RG semi-final........but Djokovic didn't finish what Diego started at all....

Whenever any player faces Bull on Chatrier, they chat themselves even with set points on serve and Nadal hands them an overhead they can make while sleeping.

Anything is possible. Nadal really looks extremely vulnerable these days. If Gasquet was just a bit more clutch he would have won the second set yesterday.

Norrie is a very good player probably playing the best tennis of his career right now but he will lose in straights because he has even less weapons to bother Nadal than Popyrin and Gasquet

I doubt that Norrie wins, but I do think it is a good idea to come in confidently with any of the Big 3, otherwise you are psychologically already down 2 sets.

I’m surprised by the skepticism in the replies. Tomorrow you’ll be the ones being surprised by the tireless, the persistent and the wholesome Cameron Norrie.

I refer you my to my previous thread about the matter at hand:

I'm pleased to see that the groundswell of opinion is growing on this topic.

There's no two ways about it: barring some kind of divine intervention, Norrie will beat Nadal (I'm hesitant to hubristically use the term "thrash").

Corrie will beat Nadal but not win the tournament. Your thread should be banned.

His first round match is actually his hardest match until the semis..lol

Would make RG 2020 1000 times sweeter. Think about it

I think there was a poster on here who operated under the username of "40-15erer", and had a picture of "finger lady" as their avatar.

Yeah there were plenty of those mocking ones.

Just saying if someone is 'haunted' by that loss then 2017 Roger fist pumping doesn't compute visually. Maybe sad Roger in his Wimbledon chair looking pensive?

No one should take this post seriously. First Thiem will win the FO. Gone in the 1st round. Now Norrie will beat Nadal. Stupid joke and it is not even funny.

Until someone can beat Nadal in Bo5 at RG, it is the same BS over again.

I just take it to be an expression of positivity.

A Federer fan with a good avi of him doesn't necessarily conflict with still being "haunted" by that loss.
