My wife would like for us to move to the NC mountains in the next couple of years, but I want to be sure that wherever we move to has good tennis facilities and programs. Can any of you recommend any NC mountain cities with good tennis?

Ashville, N.C. has a great private facility, the Ashville Racket Club, as well as a large hard-tru public facility. Brevard (35 miles from Ashville) has outdoor and indoor hard-tru courts plus pool, exercise room, etc. ($350-$400 yearly). Black Mountain (10 miles from Asheville) has great new facility with hard-tru courts, indoor hard courts, pool and much more. Hendersonvill, (30 miles from Asheville) has nice private facility also. The NC mountain facilities are responding well to 'boomers' and quality tennis options are near plentiful and very reasonable by most US standards.

mecir, glad to hear you're boycotting. For a town as rich as Cary, there's no need to charge those stupid fees for the courts after having them free for years. I've heard it's angered many people.... So I play in Cary every now and then. The good courts are at Dunham Park, Annie Jones Park, and Godbold Park, all in different areas of the town. I've played at the first and the last and are good. Had some trouble w/ people hanging around at Dunham though at night last year, not sure if that's still happening. Don't know what side of town you're on, here's a map of the facilities in Cary:

Thanks Craig,

I've played at both Dunham and Godbold, I like Dunham a lot better because if you bounce your ball over the fence it doesnt end up on Maynard and you can actually hear the score over the sound of speeding cars.

What infuriates me about CTC is that even now during the USTA leagues, if you are the home team, you have to pay the court fees for yourself and the opponents. I might be able to tolerate paying for open court times, but paying for USTA leagues, give me a break. They should model themselves after Millbrook...public facilities payed for the taxpayers= no need for hourly court fees. CTC is not a private club...so don't charge ppl like it is one.

Boone has good tennis? I looked around, but didn't find any. Guess I wasn't looking in the right places. Any specific suggestions?
