NOS Head Composite Edge - black grommets, will they shatter?

Never been strung, but 40+ years old, will the grommets shatter upon attempt at stringing?

Well, they might not. I have a Comp Pro of similar vintage and it’s been strung for the last 30 years and the grommets are holding up alright. If yours had white grommets, you could probably snap them off with your fingertips.

The black or brown Head grommets from the 1980’s-1990’s seem less brittle than the white ones. The gray sets used in the 1988 Elektra Pro and the neon green sets used in the Prestige Pro 600 of 1990 seem to be softer and durable, as well.

I haven't strung up the Composite Edge yet, but I did string up a white Head Special Edition Edge (16x18) with black grommets and no issues with the grommets. Zero cracked or shattered holes, I now have hope for the Composite Edge when I get around to it. FWIW the lettering on the side of the throat of the Special Edition Edge notes a head size of precisely 81.1 square inches. USA flag on the side and Made in USA on butt cap sticker. Graphite/fiberglass composite but no % on the mix. I wonder if that was measured from the inside or outside of the frame.

If it had been measured around the outside of the frame, they would have quoted about 15sqi bigger, say 95sqi. You can easily check that with basic maths, or by placing your Edge inside a 95sqi racket. It will just about fit, whereas, it will not fit inside a 90sqi frame.

They never measured from outside of the frame. That’s an internet myth. Numbers were marketing in the 90’s
