Not Gloating, but glad Rafa showed Goran a thing or two.

I think Nadal has no chance in these conditions. Novak has gotten into his head and is the favorite. I may be playing it, but I think Novak is clearly the number one favorite to win Roland Garros, “Ivanisevic said in an interview on the sports channel Sport Klub”

Thanks for the locker room material Goran.

In all fairness to Goran, Nadal’s level of play leading up to the final was unsteady at best. He labored through the wins and played mostly on his back foot. But today he did a complete 180, came out guns blazing full of confidence and kept the foot on the gas throughout. I can’t help but think he purposefully held back in previous rounds only to stun Novak with a level of play we had not seen all tournament

Is Goran indirectly part of Djokovic team, like a friend? Or was it just a random prediction?

Goran was never the sharpest tool in the box, his statement doesn't surprise tbh.
What comes to mind is why Stepanek was taken on in Djok's coaching team in the past, apart from giving him access to WTA girls and free food in the players lounge at tournaments....

The 2nd most unrealistic thing he's ever said.
Still doesn't beat the time when he thought he could win Wimbledon as a wild card. He must've been on some strong ass weed when he thought of that :-D

He was probably more confident about his Nadal prediction than he was about winning Wimbledon. ;)

Just so you glory-hunting jokers know Goran was among the very first to recognize Rafa's potential on clay before you'd even heard of the kid. You're deluding yourself if you really think all of you mugs combined know how to spot/judge talent better than even Dumb Goran who was obviously trying to play mind games ahead of the final.

"The 17-year-old Nadal, 15 years the junior of Ivanisevic, took an even first set when the Croatian served four double faults in the decisive game."

Good ol' Goran :X3:

I predict that this interview will cost Goran his coaching job. Retribution is swift in the Balkans.

He absolutely shouldn't have done it, and it was a bit of cheap talk that unneccessarily heaped additional pressure on Novak.

It's the same sort of loose talk that Mouratoglou did that created extra heat and hype for Serena when she was better poised to get the major record.

I understand that the coaches doing this see it as a mark of confidence in their players but it is the wrong way to do things.

He tried to play mind games but in a wrong way he doesn’t know Rafa.if he would have said Novak has no chance in the final Rafa is unbeatable that would create more anxiety on Rafa.Rafa loves to act as an underdog even he is huge favorite silly commies and Goran gave that opportunity to act as an underdog I can’t complain we take it.Thanks

It's worrying he said that. Was he feeding that into Novak's head. Novak is very impressionable.
Let me point out the obvious. Novak is NAIVE and very IMPRESSIONABLE. If he believes in positive energy from the Bosnian pyramids, and in Pepe's crap and many other new age "craps" he isn't obviously Socrates that he seeks to be. After all what does one expect from a high school graduate with no further education? (applicable to all in similar situation)

Everyone in the game knew Nadal was going to be one of the best clay court players in the world by 2004. Goran losing a match to Rafa and acknowledging that doesn't mean he deserves a cookie or had special powers to spot talent.

He was still insanely disrespectful to Nadal with his comments, mind games or no mind games.

How can a slam champion like Goran be so clueless about the game?

Don't expect any special insight from any former or current player. They say some of the dumbest stuff imaginable. Why I laugh when I see people here treat pros words like gospel.

However saying something like this publicly (especially in a reserved sport like tennis) is really a special brand of stupid. Goran effed up here, though considering Novak's gameplan (I'm gonna dropshot Rafa all day) he might be better off with a coaching change anyway.

LOL, yeah "[e]veryone" knew this Nadal kid was going to be tremendous on clay before the days of YouTube and his very 1st ATP CC title at the renowned Orange Prokom Open. And I'm sure you were following him well before that 1st Fedal meeting in Miami.

Maybe you and your fellow Fedalovic groupies should chill about fairly harmless bluster from an overenthusiastic coach, especially on the heels of a historic day for tennis which should have exposed it for what it was.
