not unexpected, but what a pro fed crowd

the crowd was pretty shameful in their applause of errors on one side of the net and gasps at errors on the other. the french crowds have earned bragging rights again.

Ye, I don't like Djok, but it was pretty distasteful. You don't cheer for DFs or vocally anticipate them. Show some respect. Even I, a certified TT Djok hater, didn't behave like that when I watched Djok live.

Not sure whats with french, but their ovation this year was moving.

Quite hypocritical from them. Whole match cheering against Djok, then applauding him when he loses. Next year they'll go back to rooting against him, you can bet on it.

Reminds me of Cycling. The French hated Eddy Merkx for winning Tour de France every year. Then when he finally lost against a frenchman and ended second, they started cheering for him. Hypocrits.

That same disrespectful BS has happened at Wimbledon and at the French Open, it's the Aussies who're the ones who have shown more equal respect I've noticed.

Perhaps, but i havent seen anything similar in my viewing history. They paid a tribute to great champion, even if they dislike him. It was powerful either way.

What a complete abomination it was. It is one thing to cheer for your favorite , but to cheer for opponents first serve faults is the lowest I have seen since I started watching tenis (excluding davis cup).

No Fault of Federer either, but makes me want him to lose more and more so the crowd support can be more balanced.

This was awful. I thought Wimbledon was bad, but this usopen crowd wants me to build a temple for them. Atleast they didn't cat call on frequent basis to disrupt the match and didn't applaud on opponent's serve fault.

This was a terrible as a Novak fan to see what he went through. But the way he shut up the crowd was sweet!

fans were way over the top with the gushing Federer love-in. they were often just rude and uncouth,

notice that djokovic didn't "thank the fans for their support"..and why would he ?..the fans didn't support him.

The support need not be balanced. It just should not impede match play.

Some of Novak fans think it is unfair if Fed or Rafa get more support. That is not correct.

Fans gravitate towards the player whom they are attracted to.

It is ok for Fed to get cheered more, but it is not right to cheer when Novak makes an UFE or serves a double fault.

The USO crowd has quickly gained much more notoriety over the past few years, than there already was. They were equally bad last year too.

The fact that Federer himself looked disgusted at one point with the behavior of the crowd tells you how low pathetic they were.
That makes Djokovic's win so much more special.

Federer faced similar treatment v Agassi at the US Open in 2005, Agassi did versus Connors in 1989 and so on. This will help Djokovic become a greater player and mentally stronger.

If you let the crowd get to you, then you're playing primarily for them, and are therefore an entertainer, and have no right to the trophy. Djokovic proved he's championship material by overcoming such a zealous crowd, just like Fed and Agassi and other did before him.

This was what I meant to say. I agree with you. Fans can choose to cheer whomever they want. No issues. But to distract a player so that their favorite can win is the worst I have seen. DIdn't see this in Wimbledon and French open either.

C'mon allow the players to play. Is that a high expectation from fans? They needed to maintain some discipline and completely failed.

I agree, I thought the same too. When Fed faced Agassi in USopen finals, he put his head down and won. This is what won him more fans. I'm sure Novak is on the right path.

But I don't remember seeing this type of rowdy crowd who clapped for every first serve fault Novak made. Nope never seen like this before.

You don't have to look further than this forum to know about irrational worship of Federer. It is understandable if the moneyed guys were behind Federer, but why should the plebes who make up most of the spectators also think like that? They can dream about Rolex watches and Netjets flights, but they will never experience them.

mcenroe praised the chair for doing a great job controlling the crowd.. and maybe it's true. if it got worse it would have been truly embarrassing.. the difference today is that a raucous player [ala mcenroe] would not be in direct contrast with the general viewing public..

I think you mean Patek Philippe ol' chap. Only a plebe would think Rolex was a luxury watch.

Seriously, what a silly post. The crowd is for Fed everywhere he plays. I met quite a few people at USO that came from other countries solely for the chance to see Fed play live. He the most popular player that has ever played the sport and by a wide margin.

I don't defend the crowd though but not for who or how they root, which is not my concern. It's a miserable crowd because every 10 seconds or less someone must get up, go down the steps -- oh those many steps -- blocking spectator after spectator from seeing the point because they simply must have another hot dog to jam down during the match. I had forgotten this crowd must eat constantly when I went for aisle seats. My bad.

The primary activity during a JMac USO tennis match was not the tennis match per se. It was consuming alcohol and then attempting to upset JMac. The USO hated JMac but did enjoy his tantrums.

So you mean these plebes can move residence to Monte Carlo and experience Nole's life?

LOL.

I do find it quite ironic that the TW crowd that has hated Nole all along, should suddenly be concerned about some other crowd heckling him. People like suresh wanting the crowd to side with Nole is delicious irony.

Hypocrital is the perfect word to describe the FO crowd.

Crowd is disgusting.

Do you all remember set point in set 2? They screamed like animals BEFORE Djokovic touched the ball.

Then remember the case Serena screamed before Sam Stosur hit the ball a few years ago? She was penalised and the point was given to Sam immediately.

That point should be replayed. It's a big point. It could change the match result, change tennis history.

History is written by f. idiots who think pay some hundreds bucks and they can do anything?
