Novak: A Total Class Act

Federev

G.O.A.T.
Seeing Novak get some grief here on TTW this week and tonight.

It’s TOTAL garbage.

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing Novak can do for the haters.

But this Fed fan has been impressed with him for sure.

He’s coming to an event that’s somewhat complicated for him in the midst of a crazy 2 years for him personally.

He’s been completely kind and supportive and respectful of Fed and - more than he needed to be - honoring and supportive of Roger in this hard moment.

When Novak was younger Fed (w less intensity) joined Andy Roddick in mocking Novak’s illness rooted retirements. He pouted at Novak’s amazing Mp save at the USO in 2010. Basically Fed was arrogantererer.

Long ago Fed stopped that crap (thankfully). Partly cause he was humbled probably and partly cause he grew up.

And even though Novak’s parents have been unseemly towards Fed, Novak never has been rude to Fed. Ever.

And this week, even though he was a bit the odd man out w the Fedal bromance, he’s been nothing but class.

Never pouty, never overly syrupy - he’s been himself. Strong, but kind and honoring.

Not that he needs it from me - a Fedal fan - but I’m proud of him and I’m grateful for his stellar attitude.

Thanks Novak.

When you finally take all the records I will be a little less salty, cause you were such a gentleman when my favorite player in all of sports had to say good bye.

Ideamo (?). (However it goes!)

He indeed plays this kinda weird strange role he needs to play in pretty well. Cheers to him. I hope people can appreciate his retirement one day in a similar way… no matter how much tournaments he will win

if novak is true gentleman, he won't pass roger's record of 20 slams

Novak showed up and made gracious comments about Fed. He should get credit where credit is due.

I didn’t remember the year. I thought Fed was salty in 2010.

i just remember he was kind of a baby.

USO 2011 presser was not Roger’s finest moment as a sportsman. Young Eggvax can give him a run for his money with his delusional 2006 FO press conference. Off my head, I can’t recall Vamos reaching these heights (or depths as it were).

It was just nice seeing Fedal playing doubles and Djokovic giving them advices the whole match. Djokovic gets along with both, only haters will say the opposite. They also showed many clips of close moments between Djokovic and Federer during their careers.

Djokovic has a close relationship with most of the NextGen players too. I have seen him hanging out with Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Sinner, Rublev, Ruud, Berrettini. Interacting with them, training with them, giving them advice. I don't think Nadal and Federer have this kind of relationship with the youg players. Not saying this to judge them, it's just an observation...

None of these guys is perfect. God knows I’ve been quite critical of Novak the last 2 years.

But blemishes aside, the B3 are great sportsmen and ambassadors of the game. I’m glad Novak showed out to respect Fed.

You know deep down hes smiling.. "ohh yea I got GOAT sewn up now kids. I always win in the end"

Holy cherrypicking batman!

how dare a tennis player get angry on the court! What does he think this is? Tennis?

Funny thing is that in your cute little gif novak probably looks better here than you ever have in your life.

dont forget to show your mommy how good you are at gifposting so she can be proud of her little internet superstar.

I think at this point it’s clear that people just see what they want to see. Tonight was not about Djokovic anyways, it was about the greatest artist to ever grace this sport. I think he realized it and took a back seat.

Sadly people just want to air their grievances no matter what happens in reality.

I feel like 90% of djokovic haters began their campaign when they saw this video.
i wonder what gender the majority of them are? Hmmmm…

Novak had to swallow a lot of pride to put aside his differences to show up to the Laver Cup and give Federer a send off.

People don't seem to understand that Djokovic holds certain views and theories about Covid 19 and his views has alienated himself from Nadal/Federer.

Djokovic is the Will Smith of tennis, very punchable face, sometimes punchable persona too..... good at doing interviews, good at doing his craft albeit boring

And federev, great post.

i think it takes a very smart and humble person to know when it is not your time to shine or draw attention to yourself. I have always seen a very good friendship on the court and off between novak and roger. But i think novak knew that the federer-nadal friendship was the center stage tonight and he graciously stepped back and did not do anything to draw attention away from roger and rafa. Even though some people watching tonight might come away thinking only federer and nadal had a special relationship and that djokovic and federer didnt have one too, novak seemed to show tonight he was humble and clairvoyant enough to let that misunderstanding persist in order to save the big picture which was to step back and not add any unnecessary influence on rogers special night.

Um, will smith white knighted his bald wife so hard he slapped chris rock in the face like really hard.

Considering that djokovic is about as far from being a white knight as any human in history, i would say your judgement of djokovic is about as accurate as alec baldwins judgement of how much a loaded pistol weighs.

Agree, Djokovic has comported himself brilliantly throughout the tournament.

I’m as big a critic of Djokovic as anyone, but there is nothing about his appearance here that warrants criticism.

It has actually been very cool seeing Federer, Nadal and Djokovic talking strategy on mic during changeovers in the doubles.

i personally love roger, rafa, and novak each for their own personality/quirks. I dont even bother choosing favorites. I think they are all great people and all 3 of them are the goats.

This is definitely true

Hey fed is gone.

I will cherish djoker till the end. Still team rafa.

But he is one of they boys and I will root for him.

Big 3 forever.
Me too, especially now that the most important records are gone anyway. I don't care if Federer loses the Slam race by 2 Slams or 5 or even 10. He will forever be the greatest in my fan heart, and objectively the others are ahead, no matter how big the lead is.

However, the other two are such a big part of the Federer era that I really have no idea how to follow tennis after all of them are gone. It's a bit like Federer lives on in them as long as they play. So yes, I want them to stay for many more years and have many more great battles. This year's US Open final showed me how little I'm able to care about anything else in tennis at the moment. That whole final had no aura, no tension, just nothing for me. I watched it just for the formality of a Slam final. It's not about those two players alone though. No young player can convince me otherwise these days.

Are you saying Djokovic doesn't rub people the wrong way with his appearance and behavior, despite being good at his job? Very similar to Will Smith (y)

It took Djokovic faking it as humble Federer supporter to get the fan props  :giggle:
2400 posts since June. Half of them trolling and attacking Novak.

Reminds me of… what? And why would anyone spend time this way?

Well said. Here's to hoping that 2007-8 style aggressive Novak re-emerges so we get some blitz tennis we'll be missing with the Maestro's departure.

However, the other two are such a big part of the Federer era that I really have no idea how to follow tennis after all of them are gone.

No need to follow it mate. Go out, play some. If not tennis, play football. And only watch when you really care. Plenty of great matches and rivalries ahead. When Sampras called it quits, it also felt empty. Took a year or two before the game felt rejuvenated again. We all know how it went from there, don't we. The throne is a great prize. Someone will go and get it and cling to it to leave their mark on the history of the game. It will be fun again.

Its a very good way to enjoy the game and you would have had more enjoyment than the people who only like one player.
Yeah. Sometimes i want one of them to win over the other. Like Wimledon 2008 i was hoping Roger would win but honestly i have a sort of crazy theory about that match, and that it ended prematurely because Roger was older and his night vision wasnt as good as that of the younger Rafa; i think if it werent for the darkness, that match would never have ended; it would still be going on for weeks, then months, then years, on and on, until when the crowd in the stadium had all grown old and died, and perhaps humans had alltogether gone extinct, except for Roger And Rafa, who for reasons they did not understand were still out there playing all alone by themselves with nobody watching, just out there trading games, back an forth, until the end of time.

love you Roger.

You are the king of one line paragraphs. You are the anti-Kerouac of TTW.

You are the king of one line paragraphs. You are the anti-Kerouac of TTW.
Jack Kerouac was everyday common knowledge packaged and sold as supreme genius philosophy. Hunter S. Thompson thought kerouac was a bum, and i agree with him.

but i kind of think paragraphs should be used however the writer/poster wants to split up and present their thoughts.

theres even some cool sleight of hand tricks that people like HST have used in their writing, like
using—instead of a semicolon, and for whatever reason, it seems to work in an original and novel way even though basically serving the same purpose.
