Novak and NYC crowd had their Rocky IV moment

I couldn't help but see the parallels of that movie be played out this past fortnight with Novak Djokovic, a crowd that was never for him, warming up and embracing this true champion. Watching the hate he got back in 2015 final to the incredible love, respect and appreciation he got last night....and Novak breaking down and crying because of it. His words to them at the end, basically telling them that even though he lost on the court, he won something even more special, their love and appreciation.

It was Medvedev's night rightfully, but Novak had the most special moment of his career there. Never have I seen him break down into tears after hearing them cheer him on. And that is why we watch sports. People like to call him a robot, boring, but no one wears their heart on the sleeve the way he does, no robot sheds tears like that. :)

Truly special. Ironic that of all the players crying after loses and wins only Novak is the one who isn't mocked on this forum. Tells you all you need to know about this place.

At least Novak finally got what he wanted.

One of my favorite made up, fictional narratives from the tournament.

He wasn't finally accepted lol. A heavily pro-Djokovic crowd attended the final to witness the CYGS, as evidenced by the incredible number of Djokovic/Serbia flags and banners in the building. The same fans who don't like him didn't start liking him yesterday. Nor would there be any reason to. He acted like his typical loathsome self yesterday, smashing his racket, screaming, hitting himself, and cocking his racket back to throw it in the direction of a ball kid, scaring them.

It was indeed. But of course there will those desperate to state that the defeaning noise in there was 23,00 Serbs. :-D Funny how I saw people of all backgrounds cheering him on like crazy.

This happened yesterday too? When? I only caught the last set of the match so perhaps I missed it.

It was 100% a very pro-Djokovic crowd in attendance lol. There is really no denying it, there were Serbian flags everywhere and those fans were quite loud. Do you think the flags and banners were purchased at souvenir stands after Djokovic won them over with his wonderful behavior?

Holy crap I didn't see these. He really does have anger problems. I don't know if he's done this in matches he's won? Seems like he has Andy Murray syndrome.

The crowd was worse than in 2015, in the final games, the worst I have ever seen since I started watching this sport, Medvedev could barely serve in the end.

Still, it was something to see Novak receiving that much support, it was very emotional in the end and no wonder he started crying. He showed that he is also human after all, he showed how much it meant to him to have such support. He deserved it tbh, after all these years :D

Dude, get a life. Go puke in another thread. Maybe one day you will understand what is involved to get where Novak is today…
What have you achieved in your life? 10k posting count on this forum? Anything else?

Yes
Novak was not crying specifically because of the loss, he used to losses and normally crowd hating him gives him power, he enjoys such things.
But here he was being cheered which was new to him, so he went emotional/overwhelmed that even in failure crowd is supporting him unlike before.

After being the heel for too long Novak was being treated as the face yesterday by the crowd, so it brought him tears.

It is like Triple H receiving a loud ovation when he returned to the WWE in Jan 2002 after being out for many months due to Quadriceps injury

It was his moment, yeah. It's hard to image how he felt during those few minutes :D It remainds me of Delpo, in a match against Wawrinka IIRC.

Yes, I was posting in the match thread that it was not fair to Med, but if you look at the Novak story with the NYC, it just felt like this incredible culimination. He was the most loved guy in NYC at that point, and I am sure he won't forget it. The chants of Nole! Nole! Nole! were raging in there at the end, and when he gave them that smile and fist pump, they exploded and it got to him. A very special moment.

It took him being on the verge of the CYGS to get to this point! I think he going to be loved there the rest of his career, he won the hearts of so many last night.

Maybe we should recognise that crowd support is often as much about the circumstances as whose the "favourite".

Possibly 2015 was less about loving Fed and hating Djoko but more about wanting Fed to grab what you would have thought was his last chance of a Slam.

Equally cheering for Borg rather than McEnroe in 1981 was about wanting Borg to finally get that US Open.

Totally .
As a Novak supporter , I felt so bad when crowd started disturbing Medvedev's serve .
This is not the way any player should be treated .
Respect for players must be maintained .

Where can I find the full match ???
Missed it...
I went to sleep yesterday and missed the match since it was 1:30 AM here when it began and it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Novak would spank Danni in 3-4 sets, did not expect reverse and so much drama regarding crowd support.

Yeah, in the absence of Federer he will be cheered.
He can be cheered even in the presence of Nadal.

Only Federer is the unanimous fan favorite and in the UK (Sir Andy Murray).

Other than that he will get support

Yes, I think the appreciation for him is only going to grow around the world after what he has done this year. NYC were fully aware of what was happening, funny how many were saying that many didn't even care about the CYGS, and yet, here we were watching 23,000 people chanting his name. Incredible scenes. It was his Rocky IV moment, the crowd that at one point which was against him, finally turned to his side and showed him the love.

So Jelena passed out the flags at that point in the match? Should have done it earlier, might have been able to rattle a few more breaks out of Medvdev

Don't mind them....RG 2021 did perm damage. ;)
I don't even mind their criticism towards Novak .
But these losers enter every damn random thread and vomit the same sheet again and again even if the thread has nothing to do with Slam record or with their favourite .
They just want to destroy all good threads .

Like I have always said, he could have replaced Federer as the fan fav by 2015-2016 but he missed it after his big year 2011.
In 2011 crowd saw him super dominant for the first time and got a small hint that Federer's successor had arrived, Rafa was no successor, he was all clay and nothing beyond for the full 2000s.
So in 2011 crowd saw him but 2012-2014, those 2.5 years were horrible, loses to Fedal pigeons like Murray-Stan, losst to Nadal, all that ruined his chance of creating an aura.
Then he conjured 2014W to 2016FO phase where again he had a second attempt at dominance but burned out by ending of 2016 and Fedal again returned, old Fed was celebrated in 2017 a lot and Novak's chance gone
Then in 2018-21 he had his 3rd phase and maybe he will be successful this time since Fed is finished most certainly.

What's with the flag thing? It was nothing out of ordinary in terms of numbers. You're creating imaginary scenarios and trying to come up with conclusions based on those instead of what was actually going on.
33 years. You?
And you somehow missed the whole career of racket breaking, screaming and the winning afterwards?
