Finally after years of cringeworthy affection seeking fake celebrations today Novak did it like he was doing 2011.Real FU to the crowd not acknowledging them for the second. He just needs to let it go and be the villain. They are not gonna like you no matter what.Embrace it.I hope this today was first step

I dunno how Djokovic would win without the crowd hate to fuel his FU level tennis. If you needed a player to win a point to save your life, there is no greater player than Novak down match points with the crowd shrieking for his demise. His FU Tennis is the real shiit

You would have to be a Fed fanboy to not see that what Novak did today was GOAT.

IMO the crowd was rooting for fed, but we're not disrespectful. Nothing close to usopen 2015. But I loved the smirk from Novak after the match. He was like 'didn't you guys like the hope I gave and the entertainment I provided to snatch the victory from your boy?'

Loved it every bit. I would rather have him riled up and end up winning matches like this than being a favorite

Love it. Good sight with his parents and team there , you can see the emotions and close bond they all have. His son too, what a moment!
Tennis won. Love won.
I hope our posts here can reflect that. Hope there is no GOAT debate for a few days atleast and we can simply appreciate these geniuses.

Just absolutely ****ing loved the celebration even though I was sad for Roger.

1) this should be Novak’s celebration going forward. F the crowd.

2) the way he reacted to the last point and his greeting of Fed at the net... his body language reads like he was playing a single player game, Fed was just the guy across the net. He was really just playing against himself and the crowd

This and this is the reason why was so frustrating to see him chasing their love

I said this to someone but next time the Wimbledon crowd should ROOT for Djokovic instead of Federer.

I swear it will confuse the heck out of Novak so much that his game will be messed up on so many levels lol because clearly going against him isn't working at all. It has the opposite effect

I agree too. It will confuse the hell out of him and he may actually end up losing a tight match not knowing what's going on

His celebrations since 2013 at slam wins have been mostly subdued, except 2016 FO (understandably). He has learned over the years that Fed and Nadal are going to always have more fan support and I believe that Novak has come to terms with that. His composure today during the match reminded me of USO2015. I do wish he would give up that post match giving your heart to the crowd thing. It is cringe worthy.

His "heart throw" celebration is a prayer, and a "thank you" to his maker, if you really look at it.

I realised this recently.

Novak does not read the script. I think he should keep on doing it.

I don't think Novak should settle for being a villain. He's a great player who's deserving of appreciation. I like when he sort of forces the crowd to begrudgingly show him admiration. He'll make a great shot and the crowd will offer lukewarm applause, so he'll basically instruct the crowd to cheer louder. It makes them look small. You guys keep calling the boob throw "cringeworthy" but I'm not sure why. I think it's fine.

I don't really like subdued celebrations. I want to feel like it meant something to the player winning. I'd rather see him yell and rip his shirt off. These players work hard, they deserve to celebrate their great accomplishments in a boisterous way.

Yeah and thank them for what? Cheering his double faults?I get that Fed is super popular but one can be respectful. Nothing beats the NY crowd in USO ' 15 though. That was satisfying.
Yeah that crowd was pure scum .

Loved when Djokovic just pointed at himself and looked at his box .... I like to believe he was staring at some wanker in the crowd to rub it in, but no ... was his box ..

I have always agreed with this. I rooted for Lendl who was almost as unpopular as Novak and he treated the crowd like garbage, never acknowledging them or caring one damn about them. I've said for 10 years Novak should embrace the villain role and just give them the finger every time they boo or act up. It might be liberating for him, because the need to be loved by the crowd just makes them dislike him more. Just hate them back-- it might free him up even more. Give back what they give to you. Lendl acted that way his entire career.

Now I understand why you didn't mind Djokovic winning. Your girlfriend must be a Djokovic fan then! :)

Well deserved win from Djoko. As a Fed fan, I don't believe that Djoko deserves some of the criticism ? and stigma that he has had to endure. Yet the Fed fan crowd psychology affect against anyone who beats the maestro, is certainly an impossible hurdle to overcome.

Djokovic must understand that being everyone's favorite is largely a matter of "first come first serve". Federer was not everyone's favorite when he was facing Sampras or Agassi.

Likewise, as long as Federer and Nadal are around Djoker will never be the the favorite. Partly just a matter of who took over the fans first. Fans are massively behind someone else arleady, and they are still witnessing that "first love" on the courts. In fact there are not 1 but 2 "first love" ahead of the Serb. Once both are out of the way a significant remnant will automatically move on to him regardless of whether they maintain support for their retired faves or not. That's how it's always been. Lendl was hated partly because he undermined someone who was the crowd favorite and who was still playing. Same thing why Navratilova was never the crowd's favourite until after Evert retired... by which time Navratilova herself was too old to reign supreme (1989-).

So the Djoker should not force the issue -- beg people to make him the crowd fave while two predecessors are still around. What else he should do is up to him. There are many options from "embracing the villain" status to not bothering to care one way or another.

I said it before, Novak needs to forget to be everyones favorite he is pure cheese
and works better as the villain on the court and clown with a heart of it.
if Djoker clothing was available with his face as a wicked joker
I would buy it and so would Serbians, he is missing out on a charity idea that
could make millions to those less fortunate. We need villains and he is the
best in years defeating the arrogance in Federer and cheating in Nadal
over the years to give them the irritation they deserve.
Also would love to see Murray as the Riddler, he puzzles most Brits
with his antics but in a way wears you down to eventually like him with
his sheer honesty of situations most PC clones dont want to talk about.

His celebration was cool today :) maybe im just zen bc I caved in and got good head :)
Yes, it was cool and I hope he will keep doing it that way. Just raise your hand and that's it. Don't over do it. Stay cool. Do not rip your shirt off etc. OK, he stopped doing that. Lay on the ground ... that's fine.

I totally get his being done with the lack of crowd support so all power to him for this celebration. It's just upsetting that this affects him a lot. During the on-court interview he was more serious than Federer before him which is quite a feat.

Joker is and has always been a childish jerk who can't take any criticism or anything else but complete adoration. "The crowd" as an abstract concept is not useful, as it consists of many different people. Not acknowledging the crowd is a bad move, but still better than the cringeworthy bewbthrow.

He should've ripped his shirt off... I think it was unfair of the crowd. I'm not a huge Djokovic fan, for whatever reason, but he's an amazing player and played an amazing match. But my main takeaway from this slam season (AO, FO, Wimbledon), is how really sad it is that there aren't more contenders for the title. I mean, for the first 10 years of their dominance, it was a golden age of tennis, because it still felt pretty new, including the "how could this keep going" feeling. Now I'm more like "when will it stop, please"... But, I don't know when that's gonna happen, because the big 3 are still good enough to win and mentally so much stronger than the field, and you need both.

Of course there is also a downside to this. I'd say his embracing of this role is the reason why Lendl is criminally underrated in greatness debates
