Big debate about the amateur slam. He didn't beat the best players in the world to win it. Not even close.
How many of the Majors won by the Big 3 were achieved in Tournaments where all of the Big 3 were in the Draw?
It's not moot because it proves he was not the best in the world in 62.
"BEST" is a subjective adjective. Statistics are objective. As I often say, you can only play and beat who you are presented with. (And what you are inferring is rather narrow minded even if you apply it to "today". There may well be human beings out there who don't play Pro. tennis today that could be every bit as good as any of the top players currently playing. )
Laver achieved the GRAND SLAM in 1962. The record books show that Laver achieved the GRAND SLAM twice in his playing career. No argument.
If Novak had acheived the GRAND SLAM a decade ago without having played Rafa or Roger in any of the tournaments in that season, would that be a worthy achievement?
It certainly would be imho. Sounds as if guys like you and
@abmk don't share that view?
