Novak Djokovic calls for officials to show more respect

If you enforce the strict rules, we will fall back into the "no judgement" situation which was honestly a nasty nightmare.

We overseas like those English sports like tennis, rugby, cricket,... also because they are based on the common sense of the referee. Strict rules with no judgement allowed are for monkeys, not for thinking people. A clever umpire knows how to handle the situations and keep the game within the spirit of the rules.
If there is a long rally, you do not give warnings: players may rest, play better next points, the audience enjoys the match, and nobody is annoyed by the extra time.
If the rally is NOT long enough to exhaust players, you immediately give a warning to the player who is taking an unlawful advantage over his opponent who is ready.

25 seconds is the upper limit for the tough point. The fact that people take it as the norm and then feel aggrieved after a long point is their problem.

The rule should be lax enough after tough rallies, and depending where the player finishes the previous point. In other words, if they don't go over the clock intentionally.

In other words, it should depend on the "toughness" previous point.

I don't think a shot clock would work.
What if the receiver decides to think deeply about his life before stepping up to the baseline with 1 second left on the clock?

It will change the nature of the argument and who is making it from server whining that they weren't ready to receiver whining that they weren't ready and the Chair would explain that you must play at the server's pace. So it will be a change of scenery.

... Strict rules with no judgement allowed are for monkeys, not for thinking people. ..

They should replace people with monkeys in the Chair. It would boost ratings to watch players argue with a monkey over calls. Incidentally, certain monkeys can be more thoughtful than certain people. No hard and fast rules can be made here either.

Sorry Noelan but I must use this picture :D

Interesting. I know Andy has been slow too but this seems to indicate he's been getting worse lately. One for him to try and improve on. I have the impression he once said he would have no objections to a shot-clock though whereas I had the impression Djokovic and Nadal were not keen. I could be wrong.

Did homeboy got time violation to his 30s against Kei, currently he is the slowest . Raonic cautiously tied his shoes in TB changeovers ..

Djokovic is not the type of a player who points his finger at other players.
Fergus Murphy should tell him before as it was his first time in match. then, if he continued he should give him time violation.

Hmmm...not sure which shocks me more: Murray heading this table or no mention of Nadal (surely that can't be right?). o_O

Believe me, SKY would not undermine Murray and no way would they favour Nadal where TV is concerned because they campaigned against him endlessly until the enforcement was brought in. Nadal has changed he doesn't take that long between points anymore, so it's a case of give a dog a bad name and hang him.

If I get a media pass for Abu Dhabi, I will ask Rafa what he thinks. I'm sure he would welcome a shot clock because he's been victimised so much for it.

Interesting... how things can backfire. I have the impression he also said some players seem not be able to ever get tired.

No, it quoted 'Season' and I share your surprise that Nadal is not there. Can he really have speeded up THAT much?
Well yes, Season, but only for players that play at Barclays ATP World Tour Finals which is written above. Nadal didn't change and it would be a crazy coincidence if the eight slowest servers are all WTF participants as well.

The irony it shows in numbers- the fastest is the one who is often called a pusher, big server is trying to end the points as quickly as he can.
The things aren't always black and white as we are willing to judge to these guys based on our personal preferences(span attention) to short or long rallies.

Well they knew that he won't play WTF(he is irrelevant now:p, sry Octo and co).
You should know Mainad ;) who plays the most and the longest matches needs a bit more time.
Personally I don't mind few s more, just pointed in light of the OP thread that Djokovic is worst child of them all.
On the other side failed ball toss is annoying, don't you think?

But that's got nothing to do with time taken between points, has it?
No, it has to do with him moaning about others, and now look at him - he just can't get tired. o_O And everything is ok.

Yeah, I've got it now. I thought it was a bit far-fetched not seeing Rafa's name up there! ;)

Well, Djokovic likes to moan when he's called for a time violation. So they all like to moan about something or other, don't they? ;)

Except that Djokovic moans to umpires over his own case, but Murray likes to moan about other players. It's not actually the same thing, isn't it ?

Moaning about being cautioned for breaking the rules, moaning about what you suspect other players may be doing, it's all moaning isn't it? Neither has much justification unless they can prove their case.

What happened to you Scotsmen ? You people were famous for your bravery, or was it just folklore ?
Anyway, times have obviously changed. Andy Murray ≠ Andrew Moray.

Actually I'm English but the English and the Scots are still British...just! ;)

I think Andy's been pretty brave on the whole and especially this last 6 months. Djokovic is normally the bravest one out there. Let's not let a few little grumbles from either of them disguise that important fact! :)

Not a Joker fan, but I can't stand most of these umpires. Fergus Murphy(?) makes my skin crawl. You should barely notice who's in the chair, not know them all by name. Get some funken time-clocks, like every other sport. And I want "hawk-eye" or what ever they're calling it this year on clay courts, too!

Djokovic was given a time violation by umpire Fergus Murphy when he took a lengthy pause after losing a long rally in the first set. The Serb responded by having an increasingly animated discussion with Murphy at the end of the game, which included Djokovic appearing to say the official "had no clue about the game".

"Every time that I'm late, if I get a so-called soft warning or pre-warning, I'll accept it and I won't say a word.

"But I think it's fair, correct and respectful towards the player and to the game if you go over the first time, let's say, over the limit, that you at least get a heads up.

"That's all I'm asking for, to be honest. I know that the rules are strict. But there should be a kind of a feel, a sense for the game.

-------------------------------------

So, after knowing the rules are strict, now he wants the official to give him a cushion. He speaks of being fair but then also asks for a favour.

Not good sportsmanship and definitely won't help him with the people.
Just goes to confirm he has 0 respect for his peers or for the public.

LOLLLLLL, when Nadal fans are on Djokovic's side, the issue has to be about time violations - with of course the kingpin of cheating being Nadal! :)
