If you enforce the strict rules, we will fall back into the "no judgement" situation which was honestly a nasty nightmare.
We overseas like those English sports like tennis, rugby, cricket,... also because they are based on the common sense of the referee. Strict rules with no judgement allowed are for monkeys, not for thinking people. A clever umpire knows how to handle the situations and keep the game within the spirit of the rules.
If there is a long rally, you do not give warnings: players may rest, play better next points, the audience enjoys the match, and nobody is annoyed by the extra time.
If the rally is NOT long enough to exhaust players, you immediately give a warning to the player who is taking an unlawful advantage over his opponent who is ready.
