Novak Djokovic confident of wearing down the next gen in Best of 5

I really really think he was absolutely scared of Medvedev before the AO final, probably because even last year he was lucky to win it after Dominic took control. It was apparent in his face after Medvedev got back the break in the 1st and won some strong rallies in the middle of the first set .

But ever since he defeated Med with absolute ease, he has become very very assured of himself against the next generation.

He just thinks there is no way they can handle the ups and downs of beating a big 3 in bo5.

This can actually backfire though. He is really egging them on.

Or maybe he is talking smack so that they are extra motivated to take down Rafa for him this RG( keeping Zverev and stef in mind)
Why would Djokovic trash talking Next Gen have any effect on Nadal? More likely they will be happy for Nadal to move further ahead?

Has nearly 77% win rate when the matches go beyond 3 hours. That's better than the other Big 3 members and the next gen as well. He aint wrong.

Or, he wants the Next Gen to seriously get offended and give more than their usual performance against Djokodal at RG. 4D chess Novak is playing
Players already give extra effort against Nadal more than they do against Djokovic as until recently Djokovic was more popular in locker room. Obviously that seems to have changed for whatever reason

wait... that was him, yesterday?
That has to be fake lol. There is no way on earth any pro player would waste energy reading a forum about their work.
If that was a genuine picture which obviously it isnt, but if it was then Djokovic would have to be the saddest most boring geek on earth lol.
However Djokovic likely after he has trained like the rest of us in careers does not think about work.

Either he is wrong/lying like he was in that RG 2007 presser.
Or he is getting PEDs behind the scenes which improve his endurance.
Lying? Is that like making a very serious accusation against someone without any evidence whatsoever?

There are many haters when it comes to Djokovic, but it's all accusations, and no evidence!

Djokovic might beat Tsitsipas at RG right now, but it would be due to experience, not tennis or fitness.

Right now Djokovic is counting on his cleverness, toughness and clutchness to stay on top, and to keep on winning majors! Because obviously he can't outhit and outrun the youngsters anymore!

Maybe if he reads some of my posts he will realize that it's not good to smash rackets, abuse tennis balls, scream at your team box, disrespect country rules, etc.

Maybe my criticism and lack of support will make him want to change his ways and he could maybe become popular like Fedal.(y)

Let's hope he's reading my posts because it might inspire him to improve his attitude and I could become his fan. (y)

Come on Thirdwheelovic, I believe in you, you can do it. :giggle:
And yet you cheer for Kyrgios...so that can't be the real reason why u hate Djokovic
The real reason is Club 56

I think he's talking mental even more than physical. He's banking on that experience plus he's a beast the longer the match goes. That thread with the graphic the other day showing his percentage when the matches go longer than 3 hours and 4 hours was pretty telling. Truth is, that mental toughness and experience is what is keeping him ahead of them in BO5 so far.

Why would they not put so much effort against Novak, that’s just dumb.

This cocky attitude and overconfident comments will come back to bite his arse soon. This is strongest year in recent times wrt young competition. Guy like Sisipas is improving quickly - he might beat Djokovic in Slam this year itself.

It just goes to show that in tennis, experience, skills and managing schedule and training to peak at the slams is counting more than youth and raw athleticism.
The slam race has allowed the big 2 to stay hungry for more slams. If it had been settled, there's a chance Djokovic might not have been as motivated to just keep accumulating slams.

Nah, I sincerely doubt that his comments will suddenly light a fire under their arses like until now they've been holding back.

Disagree. That didn't help Federer one iota against Djokovic in 2015.

Heck, 20-21 year old Djokodal were better players than the wiser more experienced 2015 Fed.

Exactly.

I know it's all in jest coming from Djokovic, but I doubt he'd actually joke like that if the guys after him were prime/peak Fedal.
Absolutely not. He would dislike them and not be buddy buddy. But he has nothing to fear. He would be more perked up about a Roddick return.

I was talking about the current state of men's tennis. The big 2 are able to dominate at slams even with physical decline.
As for Federer, it's his individual career trajectory and matchups against the big two (who also had considerable experience by 2015, the year you mentioned), but the same experience benefit applied to him for a while against the other younger players when he was beating nishikori, raonic others. It's obviously not gonna hold true at 40+.

Djokovic will dominate tennis until he's 40 YEARS OLD and WIN at least 10 more SLAMS.
You think you're joking but you're not, that's the sad thing. Fedal will retire in the next year or two and then nothing will stop Djoko from winning 2-4 slams/year the next 4-5 years.

I find experience to be overrated. He was owning Nishikori, Raonic and co not because of experience, but because they just weren't that good. It was simply a matter of major gulf in ability in Fed's favor.

Athleticism and youth can overcome experience if the younger player in question is good enough. That's how Djokovic and Nadal at 20-21 were already competing with prime Fed on an equal footing.

Djokovic and Nadal still win today because there is still a gulf in ability between them and the Next Gen + Thiem.
