Some bubbles are bigger than others.:sneaky:

Tsitsipas who has never been beyond R2 “is as good as all of the top 3 guys.”:giggle: Also mentioned was Thiem and Med. But no call out for Zed.:(

The towel thing which he mentioned should be made permanent. No more fetching player towels. It’s always been a vector for disease.

"Whether I have a bigger chance to win the title, because Rafa and Roger are not here? I don't know.

I don't want to sound disrespectful to other players"

This has nothing to do with other players, Novak, so, you are a bad actor.

Plenty of other such moments.

No Fedal or Wawrinka

Zedbot thankfully gets a tiny mention at the 4:55 mark.

Regarding the towel issue, absolutely agree.

An edited version of the press conference for anyone who has been looking for it.

I've been a big critic of him during the pandemic, but this is impressive from Novak:

So many people try to score points by slamming these top guys, but I have to say that I can't imagine having the kind of poise and diplomacy he has when I was age 33. But I REALLY want to see the end of towels!

Lets hope we end up with some great tennis these coming few weeks in NYC. :)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that Nadal and Federer are absent, but I think we will get some great matches. There's a lot of guys who have been priming themselves over the last 6 months, and are dying to prove themselves. They will see this US Open as a massive opportunity, and it's going to be a big result with a lot of drama regardless of who wins.

Of course, if the whole gang was there, it would be better, but at the end of the day, we have some players who are there, and will be in the hunt...besides, these are the guys that will be the future. Here's a chance for them to do something.

Priming themselves in conditions of constant disruption, uncertainty and reduced possibilities to train properly.

Pretty big name making this claim but people are watching and seeing what they are trying to do, and it's obvious. Pretty eye opening to see an Aussie of McNamee's stature saying this.

McNamee has defended Djokovic's actions regarding the Adria tour, including publishing a letter form the Serbian authorities that states that if they could take all the blame for what happened in order to leave Djokovic alone they would.

Are you aware of that position (of McNamee)?

No I'm not. Does this, if even true, deter from the point he made in that tweet?

Yes, it does, as it shows that he is ready to defend Djokovic from the indefensible (in the case of Adria Tour): he basically chose to support the idea that Djokovic's responsibility should be neglected and that it was all good. What you quoted is only an extension of that apologetic line.

I don't know why McNamee would take such a stance, but it is there.

I mentioned Wawruineka...
I could not type more due to some weird gboard errors.
However, apart from 2019 uso, Wawrinka's wins over nole were legit and achieved when nole was healthy. (So were nole's wins over Wawrinka apart from 2012 uso)
2014 ao :- Terrific match from both, hair thin margins
2015 fo :- Wawrinka upped his level big time, nole couldn't weather the storm.
2016 uso :- both were trash, but lesser trash won

Post a link to what you are describing or it didn't happen.

The mainstream media is still hounding him, but there has been a subtle shift in the specialist tennis writer's treatment of Novak over the last few weeks imo.

The message from tennis-specific journalists is gradually changing to "Give the guy a break..", and they are right to do so.

McNamee has a unique perspective on the situation, and it's clear he is disgusted with the general media's treatment of Djokovic. It's gone from reportage to outright bullying

More like they are changing their tune because they know they will have to likely crown Djoker the champ.

I don't know ST since I haven't seen a let up yet. It's pretty bad when former CEO of AO has to come out in support of him from his own country's media.

It is a standard pre-GS tournament Djokovic treatment. Prior to any major, there are some issues about Djokovic; I suppose the idea is to unsettle him. Based on interview posted here, he is pretty much prepared for all garbage thrown at him.

Very true. I like it better when they praise him because then he does not have a vengeance to win. He is dangerous when he feels attacked.

Where is it that he tried to defend Djokovic from the indefensible or the idea that Djokovic's responsibility should be neglected? He said here he "underestimated the virus and there are consequences". Consequences meaning he has to face his part of responsibility. Just because he is defending Djokovic against "vitrol" does not mean he is blindly supporting him. I know I am talking to the wrong poster in regards to trying to reason with so this will be last post to you on this because I am not about to waste my time, as you will go back and forth, around on a merry-go-round, gaslighting, moving the goal posts and anything in between with no serious point being made.

I watched the Venus match. Players having to get their own towels seems to decrease towel use, which seemed to keep the games moving, and showed they don't really need to towel off every point. If the men's side is similar than this change will be great.

No, he didn't say that Djokovic should take the responsibility. He said "there are consequences ..... but think twice before condemning a man ..."

That and the published letter where he highlighted the part where the Serbian Prime Minister said basically that it is the Government's fault or if they could make it be they would, says what his position is: it is exactly what I described that McNamee's stance is/was.

Of course, I am not doing this for you. I am doing it to stop you from posting the same again in the future, after knowing full well that it is a false authority to lean on (like you tried to do here).

Ball kids used to fetch towels after every point. It was ridiculous. Did not watch these matches but guessing towel use has dropped at least 50% with no ball kids. Proving that towel use was all a drama queen move.
