Novak Djokovic: "I lost my love for tennis sometime after Paris"

hmmmm, could be true, but also sounds an awful like a bunch of excuses as well. I mean some of his fans were saying, well what do you expect when he was winning so much, but there have been other players who were on unbelievable streaks for multiple years (fed being 1), and I don't recall them ever losing the love for sport.

I'm not surprised he's losing interest. In the past he had ATGs Federer & Nadal to push him and keep him motivated. Then it was RG, which he finally got this year. Unfortunately since the last 3 seasons we have seen the weakest era in history, just a bunch of mugs, it's no wonder he feels that way, he's bored.

He's not losing love for the sport. He's come up with 6 different excuses since his Wimbledon, Olympics and USO losses. Just like every other great player some players in the locker room are finally figuring out what you have to do to beat him and some are finally able to execute that game plan. If you're a power player and you can hang with him from the baseline (few people can do it), you can beat him. It's not like this is 2011.

yeah I agree. I mean, listen, it's possible that he did indeed lose love for the sport, and is also using it as an excuse. I mean, it's natural if for players to lose that motivation once in a while, and not be in love with your job 24/7. Heck Kygrios struggles to love it for even a day. But with that being said, I'm kind of rme at some of his fans who are like omg, well he was playing so much tennis, who else won 4 slams in a row, blah blah blah, and it's like get a grip.

I'm not Djokovic fan but where's the proof for that claim? A picture outside a restaurant is the proof?
they were like photographed twice. Once for lunch or breakfast and I think once in the car, but I think they were just sharing the same car for an event or w/e. I love her and refuse to believe that she was with him beyond just a friendly lunch

Sure it's natural for players to lose motivation but the issue here is since the Wimbledon, Olympic and USO losses he's come up with 6 different reasons for those losses from personal problems, injuries to loss of motivation. It's like he's picking random excuses out of a hat to try and explain his slide in invincibility.

As for his fans and their worshipping of everything he does, like in every other fan base, many of them are cuckoo.

Neither of them won 4 GS in a row (including one that he was chasing over the last 5 years), they just cant imagine how it's like being in his skin...

Heading into 2009 RG, Federer had been chasing the title for 5 years and was looking to tie Pete's record of most-slam-titles. Nole's situation is not unique.

Anyone who follows the tennis online media in Eastern Europe and/or Scandinavia will have seen some things posted (and quickly deleted) by commentators in the electronic media in those markets.

Yes, the comments were related to Novak's personal situation, and yes it goes someway to explaining his current distraction from tennis.

In pure tennis terms, Djokovic's health worries and playing style are the biggest things that are causing the current beginning of decline, but this is other things he is going through at the moment.

I know I am a card-carrying Novak-hater normally, but even I say we should cut the guy some slack a.t.m.

From 2015 WB to 2016 FO, Novak won 4 GS, 1 WTF, and 1 ATP 1000 title MORE THAN the rest of the field put f***ing together. By the end of 2016 FO, he didn't even need the 8000 pts from GS to be ranked #1 in the world.
He should be very bored.

Come on - he loses a couple of matches and now it's because he "lost his love for tennis"?
Okay sure, maybe he's had a mental or even physical dip, but I really hope he's not trying to excuse losses here or something.

"Novak, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful decline."
LMAO.

"Although it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment I lost my love for the game, it was probably somewhere around Querrey's 25th or 26th ace."

Maybe he actually lost it on losing to Querrey? Till then he was on his way to a Calendar Slam. Once he lost WO then the Calendar Slam was gone.

But I would think he would be still motivated to hit 18 slams and surpass Fedr.

I know, right ? With these actresses desperate to get into Hollywood for some international attention, I won't be surprised if their PR is working overtime to 'leak' such outrageous stories.
Glory hunting at it's best.

I feel the same way. Can't wait for the Djokovic era to be over. It can't happen too soon for me. But I don't want to see him go down through injuries. I don't want to see that happen to any player.

Ofc Djokovic situations is unique as he is only second player who done it , no matter how you detracttors trying to spin it an make look "easy"

It must really stink to go to a job where you are just kind of grinding it out day after day, a job where the challenges no longer excite you and you are vastly underappreciated for all of the greatness you produce. Each day seems like more and more of an internal existential struggle with self over "how did I end up here?"
Oh wait, that's my job...

Cry me a freaking river with these athletes who get to retire in their 30s with more money than Croesus and their "motivation struggles."

.

Who cares if he's different to Federer and Nadal. The bottom line is will he be perceived as greater than them when all is said and done and the only way he can do that is to keep winning slams and keep accumulating weeks @ #1.

As for Djokovic bashing, Djokovic deserves it with all these excuses he is coming up with because he can't deal with some big losses and his loss of invincibility Nobody dominates forever.
OP mentioned fedal I replied to him:rolleyes: I'm actually ok with him being different and having his own path in tennis history, with all of his ups and downs.

Yeah we know you would kill him if you can.
Even fellow fedfan Gary Duane tried to calm you down in your hatred rant many times before. According to you he always deserves" some" bashing , why? Because he dared to play tennis at such high level and and began to threaten some of the records of your heroes.

I am sure that you are in a better position than him to know whether he loses love for the sport or not. More interesting than your post is that a (seemingly) clever man like Gary actually liked it.

I always had a strong gut feeling this would happen after Novak got the CYGS. In a way those RG final losses helped him because it motivated him to get better year after year from 2012 to 2016. Now that he's finally got it, it must be tough to maintain that sheer dedication to play well at every tournament. The same thing has happened to other players. Federer only won 1 more slam for more than two years after his RG victory. Murray had a long dry spell after finally winning Wimbledon.

After trying so hard to finally get the CYGS, and seeing that his next big record (slam record) is still so far off, that must be demotivating.

My gut feeling now though is that this won't last forever for Djokovic. He may have a bad few months or even a bad year or two, but his hunger will be back eventually.

He didn't get the CYGS......

I don't think Novak is making excuses whatsoever.

Yes, the last year does read like a Bollywood drama. He had a cramped schedule and had to toe around some tough draws. Some unpopular choices had to be made with regards to his schedule, pushing some tournaments down the list. He has a new member of the family and his wife is probably already tired and low on energy. At least his baby will never be in danger of not getting enough love by anybody.

I see no excuses in any of this, do you? Novak will be fine; he just needs some rest and a nice winter holiday.

I can understand that. He, like most pros has been playing since he was a small kid. Unlike many players, he's never taken a break, it's a wonder he didn't get bored of it sooner. I appreciate his honesty.
Just needs a 6 mos break, like another player 30 years ago.

Not surprised to see this. Dude doesn't even celebrate much when winning a Masters and barely did so when he won the AO this year.

This could lead to Djokovic retiring soon, if he has a blow out 2017, he won't be around much longer.

He's done it all basically, since the French Open there's been something a miss yet he still wins Toronto and makes a slam final.
