Novak Djokovic: "I lost my love for tennis sometime after Paris"

I don’t get the hate here at all.

It’s out of control. Basically anyone not named Fedr is completely trashed on the forum.

Djokovic has an honest confession about motivational problems that we all saw—problems that I blame Pepe Imaz for by the way.

Anyway, it’s normal for intelligent people like Novak to question their goals in life after they reach 30. No matter what, he’s one of the top 5 players of all time (I’d rank him at 4 currently, ahead of Sampras and Borg but behind Fed, Nadal, and Laver).

Haha, if only it were so simple.

Even FedFans like myself that enjoy him taking on challenges like clay, are routinely trashed in this forum.

This isn’t a place or time to discuss Federer, only worship him.

It’s reached cultlike levels.

Which clay events should he play in your opinion?

If he has to play clay (I'd rather he didn't) I'd say Rome and RG. See how the cards fall with Nadal.

In my opinion he should just stick with RG.

He’s always been good using the first few rounds of a slam to feel his way into a tournament, I reckon a few tight sets will settle him for a deep run in the second week.

Also, he doesn’t necessarily need to win RG, if cruise control gets him to QF, then it’s time to think about throttling it for later rounds.

Everything to me depends on what happens after MIA. I’m extremely confident he’ll play around with the idea back in Switzerland. If training goes well, who knows what happens?

Exactly.

I feel like the forum is composed of about 70% Fed worshippers (who decry any worship of “false idols”), 20% Fed fans (I include myself here; folks that root for Fed generally but love the game and want other players to succeed too) and maybe 10% fans of everyone else.

Of course, the fanbase demographics are known to change radically based on who is playing well. If Fed drops off, I expect the Fed dominance of the forum to wane somewhat.

Sounds like we have a similar approach to Federer. And tennis.

Whenever I watch the above video the emphasis isn’t so much on Federer the tennis player, but rather Federer the artist - Vincent - that toils and endures.

An artist not understood, in victory or loss.

Everything else feels more about Federer the champion, the great man, the tennis prodigy. Which is nice and sweet, and great as a tennis fan, but ultimately not very long lasting. They’re Federer’s successes, what have I got to do with them?

RG2009 to me felt about Federer the hard worker. A genius that endured. Which is hugely relevant and something I can take back with me to apply to my own challenges in life.

I guess that’s part of why I’d like to see Federer on clay.

I guess I enjoy stories more than results.

All these guys - Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, even the poor guys like Kohli, and Berdy - these guys give everything they have.

To me it’s remarkable. I guess I follow tennis because at live events we celebrate a good loss sometimes even more than a victory, which means the world to me.

I don't remember anyone trashing you. What I do remember is you melting down and calling anyone who doesn' agree with you that Federer should grind his body down before Wimbledon by playing on clay , pathetic.

I've literally got no idea who you are and saw a tagged post of you doing exactly that -trashing me - because I (as do most people on here ) disagree with your opinion.

Incidentally. what are you crying about now?

Taken from MTF, but I thought it was worth posting it here. I'm rather puzzled as to how someone like Djokovic can lose motivation. All he Had to do was to look at His peers like the Great Fed / Nadal and keep himself motivated. I'm not blaming him give life long goal RG was, but I'm little disappointed as a fan
Why are you disappointed? He achieved a lot as an athlete, and perhaps he wants to do other things with his life. His choice. If he's lost the passion for the sport, it might be time to move on.

Mary Carillo said Novak's 3rd set capitulation (or disinterest) reminded her of when Borg quit. Uh oh. Well, we know it won't get to the point of being like Bernie Tomic partying with friends and drag racing.

Novak is waiting for Roger's level to drop before he makes a full comeback.

Is she dropping a hint based on some insider info we don't know yet?

To me it was really curious that Agassi did not stay for Novak;s first round match after making such an important comeback.
