Novak Djokovic says he is unsure how the Davis Cup will survive without Roger Federer.

What?

Federer hardly ever plays DC.

With Davis Cup, you know, Roger is not playing and, you know, some other guys, so how that’s going to turn out, I don’t know,” Djokovic said at the Shanghai Masters.

“I’m going to play it this year. Whether that’s going to be the tradition, so to say, every year, I don’t know, but the week is really tough, I mean, especially for top guys playing all season and then, you know, playing in London and then literally the next day you have to take a flight and potentially play the next day on different conditions and everything.”

Djokovic thinks it would be better for the Davis Cup to merge with the ATP Cup, which will host it’s inaugural competition in January 2020.

He added: “I think for the sake of tennis, I honestly hope that the conversations are going to happen again on merging two events into one, a super event, because I think it’s necessary, honestly.

Good idea on merging.

I mean silly idea but better than having DC right after WTF.

Then again, the ATP wants to kill DC slowly. That's why they put it after WTF in the first place.

As for Novak saying DC needs RF, that's Novak sucking up to RF fans, trying hard not to get booed every time he plays RF. Fat chance...

What?

Federer hardly ever plays DC.

Federer has played more matches in DC than either Nadal or Djokovic.

It is also interesting that Djokovic recognises how tough it is to get up for a DC match at the end of the season, but his own fans were blasting Federer for the W/O he gave the same Djokovic, to be recovered and prepared for the crucial DC final.

History never forgets.

clayqueen would do well with the Trump administration. In fact, she's probably Kellyanne Conway irl.

Federer has played twice as many Davis Cup matches as Nadal in his career...

What??? o_O

Fed can't play in the Davis Cup Finals to be held in Madrid at the end of November 2019, because Switzerland did not reach the final!

Saying that bears no resemblance with the truth. Fed hardly plays DC. Stan carried DC for Switzerland for years. Got to be buying favour from Fedfans.
ehh maybe but I think he’s more referring to the fact that the tour completely overhauled DC tradition and yet it’s still not enough to get the biggest stars in the game

and regardless of his intent, he’s right. this could be wildly successful, or DC could be gone in a couple years

But DC does not rely on Federer who hardly ever play it. Rafa has played far more in DC than any of the top 3. So if Switzerland in not in the top group it's Fed's fault for not helping them.

Wow! Nadal has played half as many as Fed and he's got 4 titles as opposed to Fed's 1.

I knew that would be your comeback. Nadal has been very good at showing up to the finals in Spain (y)

Nice to see you acknowledge how off you were with your "Rafa has played the most Davis Cup of the Big 3".

A player's participation in the Davis Cup depends on the Tennis Federation of the player's home country.
