Novak has BROKEN the Next Gen

First Medvedev in AO 2021 F
Then Tsitsipas in F.O 2021 F
Shapo in Wimb 2021 SF
Berrettinni in Wimb 2021 F

These were the biggest hopes, but they all have lost badly to Novak in slams.
Sad to see Shapo crying when he left the court. This one will hurt him for a very long time.
Matteo also looked devastated but lacked game to handle Novak.

Novak taking away the soul of the next gen. Is there any player who can stop this juggernaut and the invincible Serb?

In such cruel ways too. Tsitsipas at the FO and all the opportunities Shapo choked away on easy points with Djokovic reeling. Just cruel, cruel stuff.

I feel for shapovalov, i think first set was similar to ao 2021 final 1st set but shapo kept his composure although similar thing happened in 2nd set so this loss will hurt but happy that he fought and hopefully he reaches latter stages consistently as his game is apure joy to watch

This one was worse than the RG 2021 final, Djokovic came back a bit better after the first 2 sets and Tsitsipas physically couldn't take on the challenge

Shapo on the other hand pretty much outplayed Djokovic in all 3 sets, looked like never tiring but couldn't close out any of the sets he crumbled all the time when approaching the end of the set, set 3 was like clockwork when having millions of chances to do so, which Tsitsipas didn't get

He was clearly better in set one, set two was contested, and he was outplayed in the third. He should really have converted one of the first two, was serving over 70% first serves.

No, 1st set of AO 2021 final was even at 5 all and Djoko was playing clearly better there.
here Shapo was up 5-4, 30 all and missed a sitter FH. All points that Djokovic won in that game were UEs from Shapo except one.

Lets not count our chickens too early, I think if Shapo had laid it all out he had a slight chance but I feel he has too much mileage to harm djokovic.

It's sad that they are so politically correct and soft on these younger players. "Sterling effort" "no doubt we will see more of him in the future"

No, it was an horrendous effort. Those multiple break points missed is inexcusable at this level. If people were a bit harder on these guys, they might actually achieve something. But they get wrapped up in cotton wool and congratulated on their failures. We give them participation trophies instead of telling them how awful they were. So sad to see. A player like Djokovic would be utterly embarrassed with a loss like this and want to make amends asap (in fact, that's exactly what he did after the humiliation at RG 2020).

very disappointing from shapo but its his first semifinal against a 19 slam champion...even if he played well, he was not going to win the big pts anyways.
shapo losing serve at 5-4 was entirely predictable.
disappointing that sub-par djoker can roll guys like this in straights so easily.

Easy to break them when they are so pathetic. They just don't have it in them. You can make a lot of excuses but at the end of the day they're either weak mentally, weak physically or just don't have a game that is good enough. it's been like that with the younger generations for the past 12+ years now.

Don't understand how these guys can be so mentally weak. I mean a few unforced errors is ok. But sitter forehand misses and repeated double faults on breakpoints is pathetic.

What about Novak's misses and double faults? He get a pass because he won. 70% of professional tennis points end with an error. That is just how the game works.

The question really is this. If Novak is serving for the set, and it’s 30-30, would he EVER make an unforced error on the easiest of put aways on an open court? I’m not even expecting Shapo to win the match. But that miss was inexcusable. It was a pathetic choke.

At this point i hope Djoko continues. Today was a huge dissapointment. It would be better if Novak just crushed him or beat him in a tough battle. Seeing players blow away easy UEs, losing 100 BPs and losing serve the only game you really have to hold, makes me lose completely faith in Shapo.

Djoko is destroying these mentally weak players, i dont think they have what it takes to rise again. I hope im wrong, we will see.

Novak is one of the best players in the history of the sport. This is what happens
You dont have to throw away every BP and make UEs on every important point because you play one of the best players in the history of the sport. Its ok to lose, but losing in a Berdych-like pathetic way is not ok.

How does one outplay his opponent yet wins 0 sets and loses 3, on top of that winning far less points (116-104 total points in favour of ND).

You should check the stats buddy. Djokovic is better in every single one of them except he hit 7 less winners, but he made far fewer mistakes (15 to shapos 36). Gigantic difference.

Berdych's choke weren't that disgusting as the current Next Gen's. And I did hate Birdman for being like that.

I really wish he did break them. But the sad truth is they’ve broken themselves.

I wish these were AO19-style massacres but they’re just not. Novak hasn’t even needed to find anything like that level against non-Fedal opponents.
Correct he is playing at least couple levels below his best. He was mostly waiting for Shapo to make errors and he did. I don't think Berettini can harm Novak.

The FH miss at 5-4 30-30 was outrageous the dutch reporter on es wasn't amused either
Yeah I know, my comment was kinda tongue in cheek. I think it's incredible how players (Shapo, Tsitsipas and obviously Federer come to mind) keep missing these huge opportunities to beat Djokovic. I know he's great and all but he's also a cat with more than 9 lives. It's very frustrating to watch as a tennis fan. I do see it as a positive that Shapo felt so heartbroken afterwards. I would've been pissed if he felt content with his performance.

He's the real-life soul collector. When they play other top guys, the Next Gen looks like it's arrived.

When they play Novak, they collapse.

Thanos personified in terms of dominance & power. Enjoy him while he's still here, he'll be missed dearly when he leaves.

THE GOAT.

Djokovic's dominance is GREATER than anyone in the history of Sport. Federer and Sampras included.
His AURA is so strong, that next-gen collapse on big points.
Imagine beating Novak in a slam final - the Sun won't rise again - life will never be the same. It is an impossible task. Novak has won slams with his A, B , C and D game.

Can't blame the next gen. Novak is too good. I mean he is always tireless where as guys who are 12-13 years younger run out of steam.

I've always said that Zverev is the only NextGen who can beat Nole in a slam final. Thiem, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, and now Berrettini have proven me right. ;)

Of course, Zverev's problem is his inability to reach slam finals.

Not just Djokovic lmao. Nadal has been taking care of business as well in recent times. Destroyed Tsitsipas in AO semi 2019, outlasted Medvedev in USO final, 2019 and handling business in the French. They just aren't even nearly good enough for GOAT level players.

I can't help but wondering if the Big 3 pushed it too far, all this title chasing stuff.

Now someone who had dreams of being big in tennis, an all star, they have to measure themselves up against 3 men with 20 grand slams over the course of 2 decades. They must be thinking "damn, I like tennis, but not THAT much". They're probably thinking "I wanted to make a name for myself and then quit at age 30 so I can go live my life but now, even if I win 1 grand slam I'll be considered no more than a footnote".

The effort it takes even to be a top 200 is immense, constant training constant dieting. To win grand slams and go down as a legend? The mental fortitude is incredible, and the bar has been raised.
