Novak is the GOAT.

Provided he finishes things off with the title Sunday and here's why:

Ties Fed with 8 titles in a Slam being 8-0 in finals
Adds weeks at #1 till at least Wimbledon coming closer there
Too many embarrassing victories against Fed
Overall at the Slams:
4-1 at AO
1-1 at FO but took Nadal to a 5th and beat him
3-0 at Wimbledon finals
3-3 at USO but double MPx2
3-3 at WTF but 2-0 finals
Holding all 4 Slams
Best season

The 3 Slams don't make up for seemingly always a loser against Novak. Yes he beat Novak constantly when he was younger like at 19, 20 years old but even then that was less meetings.

Fed could get the title back winning Wimbledon though (if it was against Novak).

Federer was not great when he faced great opponents. Nadal was not great when he had to dominate outside clay.

Djokovic was great anywhere against anyone. He's the best of this era. And if this is the best era ever, then he's the best ever.

Roger just needed to finish off those match points in the Wimbledon '19 final and there wouldn't be so much of this talk. Roger just let's leads slip against Novak.

Novak can be considered the Open era "GOAT" with a few more GS victories, I guess, though. He's closing in all the time, imo, but let's see how this tournament ends up.

Anyone not called Wawrinka.

Listen, no one denies Djokovic is good but not everyone is blind.

Federer was cruising untill Nadal rose to the challenge.

Then Nadal was cruising for a bit and then came Djokovic that put a stop to it.

Now Djokovic is cruising and is allowed to do it for such a big stretch because there is no one that can stop him and it's not because his level is so ungodly that he is unreachable. He is simply taking advantage of a big void of talent regarding the tennis tour. Tennis is evolving but it's not always linearly, sometimes after some big ups you get some big dips to counterbalance it.

Lol, of course he won it. He is not even being CHALLENGED right now. His movement is just as good as a few years ago and he is also serving like a servebot now. Another match with 11 aces today.
He has to win the final. The match has to be played so no he has not won it yet.

Its between Nadal and Djokovic. Nadal ahead at the moment but not by much and all to play for. Federer clearly 3rd. I mean Majors are the bigggest events and his h2h against both is appalling.

Even in Australia his 2nd pet slam he is now 2-7 v both.

Scary to think just 2 years ago we were talking if Djokovic career was over.
Some people thought he was the GOAT at 10 even.....
Yea I always believed though. There was never a moment where I thought it was truly over for any of the big 3.

I think some people were getting ahead of themselves. Lol

You can't even prove the last two statements. Good try though.

Nadal v Djokovic FO would be good final this year. Thiem however presents both a headache. If thiem beats zverev tomorrow i dont think its the lock i thought this event was for Djokovic.

It's like picking Tim Duncan over LeBron James because 5>3 rings but not really.

And yes, Fed getting 21 at freaking 37 near 38 over Novak would have him clear GOAT but he just had to choke again.

Nadal has dominated USO? Certainly past 11 years. Djokovic AO and W.

We have to accept any GOAT race is now a straight fight...Nadal v Djokovic.

Unless thiem or Zverev cause a huge upset we are back to where we were. The two greatest each holding their pet slam with Thiem the only one looking remotely like he can topple them now.

Glad we finally have a thread that adresses this topic. It's really been sth people avoid talking about for some reason

It's not a lock for Djokovic. I don't think any Slam final is. He must play very well and I think either of those guys will be tough.
Zverev has obvious weaknesses that Nole can exploit. 2nd serve and FH.

Thiem though i think is a problem for Nole and Rafa as i am not seeing many holes in his game.

Novak will have to play alot better than today albeit as he said later he was distracted by Federer health issues so today was about just getting the job done which he did.

If Zverev is hardly serving second serves though like in the QF, you can't exploit it.

I think he has to play better than that 1st set for sure. He was really edgy tonight and more than normal.

Playing federer has become personal for Nole. You can sense it plus the crowd are always against him.

I expect him to be alot better in the final. Bet he wishes he was playing Rafa though!!. He would have beat Rafa in those conditions pretty easily but Thiem has alot more power and moves better than Rafa.

If Thiem makes it could be a match for the ages.

He was all blushed up in the face in the 1st set. Took some pills at time Federer was receiving a treatment off court. And yes, very nervous at times. He hit one loose ball recklessly after failing to break in the second set, could have easily hit someone and be disqualified.

It will haunt Roger for the rest of his days. That was the big moment the tennis history changed. The moment Fed knew he was probably gonna end up 3rd greatest when all said and done. Djokovic and nadal are closing in all the time.

I can’t see Federer winning another now. Only Wimbledon he has a chance but no guarantee at nearly 39 by then he can play as well as he did last year again.

Yea I think so in Australia for sure because deep down he feels this is his court. He would never say it but you know he feels it. He really didn't want to lose this and give Federer a chance to tie his 7. I don't think the crowd bothered him tonight.

I don't think he cares really. Rafa is Rafa, and still adds even more pressure. He knows Thiem is dangerous but it's a different type of match.

He was edgy for sure and I don't really like it when he's in that mood. That's why his tennis was all over the place in that first set. I saw him trying to take some pills but not sure what they were for.

Doubt Federer even thinks about it anymore. Federer doesn’t strike me as one having an existential crisis over losses like his fans do.

He is already GOAT according to his fans and he will never be the GOAT according to Federer and Nadal's fans.Even if he reaches 23+ slams i am sure that every fan base will find a way to consider his favorite is the best.
There is a reason that every one loves his player and these are not only about numbers. There is more then that. What is illogical is that trying to convince others to that your player is the GOAT even though it is impossible to do it.
I say just enjoy this days while all 3 are still here to compete.Soon we will be watching Zverev's and Shapovalov's etc..

Keep in mind Novak is nowhere near his peak or even in his prime anymore. He's just that great.

Imagine Fed having 2018-present of Novak's from 2013-2016. He won 0.

Fed may not be as bad as his fans but for sure he doesn’t want to lose his slam record. That’s why he’s still playing and fighting to win the biggest events. He admitted to being devastated after the loss. Nadal and Djokovic are the same too.

Despite what all the big 3 say they are obsessed with the grand slam record, the history and want to be remembered the greatest!
