Novak is the GOAT.

It's pretty obvious by now that Djokovic is the best player of the 21st century.

First Roger played some great tennis against Roddick, Hewitt etc; then Nadal took the game to s slightly higher level against Federer; but Djokovic has taken the game to a higher level still against both Federer and Nadal.

Playing at his best he wiped out Nadal. Playing far below his best he wiped out Federer.

A remarkable achievement.

Provided he finishes things off with the title Sunday and here's why:

Ties Fed with 8 titles in a Slam being 8-0 in finals
Adds weeks at #1 till at least Wimbledon coming closer there
Too many embarrassing victories against Fed
Overall at the Slams:
4-1 at AO
1-1 at FO but took Nadal to a 5th and beat him
3-0 at Wimbledon finals
3-3 at USO but double MPx2
3-3 at WTF but 2-0 finals
Holding all 4 Slams
Best season

The 3 Slams don't make up for seemingly always a loser against Novak. Yes he beat Novak constantly when he was younger like at 19, 20 years old but even then that was less meetings.

Fed could get the title back winning Wimbledon though (if it was against Novak).
OK

Not sure hill get past Nadal as Nadal at FO and USO is very dominant. Djokovic the same at W and AO. Given he is 3 behind Nadal it will be a tall order i think unless he can get a couple of FOs and UsOs.
Nadal is in descendancy. He's been beaten by Thiem and he will continue getting beaten by more players (even at F.O) - he's nearing 34. He might have 1 (or at best 2) slams left. Federer is almost done - at close to 39 - except perhaps at Wimbledon and that too maybe only this year.

Djokovic will be 17 this Sunday. He would be just 3 short of Federer and 2 short of Nadal. Djokovic will easily play for the next 3 years at minimum and 5 years at Max. Even if the next gen catches Fire, Novak can conservatively win at least 2 slams every year (one of them will be Wimbledon and the other AO). That already puts him at 23 in the worst case. And over 25 in the best case. If he wins UsOpen and F.O - that will further add to the total.

Now Djokovic has a winning record against both Nadal and Federer. He will also have more weeks at #1 and more YE #1 than Federer. I don't know about GOAT -there would really be not much of an argument in the future about who the most successful was among Fed,Nadal and Djokovic. It will be pretty clear cut.

Also if he plays thiem i think there is alot riding on that match.
There is NOTHING riding on the match. Thiem would have no chance at the match. Even getting ONE set against Novak would be a victory for Thiem. Did you miss the fact that Djokovic hasn't even lost a set after R1? How could anyone think that Thiem or Zverev have even a small chance on Sunday?

Not really. No missed sitters; overheads, no double faults. Just sub-optimal play, a clutch Djokovic and some bad luck.
In other words he choked. Look, the problem is not that he lost his serve while having 2 MP, that can happen. But Federer choked in all 3 tie breaks and he should have won the 1st at least because he was up but instead he choked in all 3 of them.

Yes, in other, very different words with an obviously different intended meaning, he choked. I don't think Djoker hit a single error across the breakers. Give him some credit.

Not until he reaches #20. At that point he would probably be over Federer if he is still at 20, and over Nadal even if Nadal has gone to 21, since his overall record outside slam wins would likely eclipse both at that point. There isn't a scenario he gets to 20 he doesn't best Federer in all #1 related stats (already bests Nadal), probably atleast match the WTF titles record, already has many more Masters than Federer and same as Nadal.

So if Novak didn't hit a single error while Federer was up (at least in the first 2 breakers), is that not considered choking?

Yea I always believed though. There was never a moment where I thought it was truly over for any of the big 3.

I think some people were getting ahead of themselves. Lol
Maybe Djokovic legendary 2015 pushed in future visions :)
It will be cool if we could say the same about Murray but things look over for him 2016 took a lot out of him.

Yea it was 2015-2016 Djokovic that truly show me he couldn't be counted out, ever.

I would love to see Murray come back to the top of the game. His body may not allow it though.

Djokovic was still within good form in 2012-2014 i think his comeback with the elbow as more impressive and told me everything.
I think Murray is done but i hope i am wrong.
I still watch the Wimbeldon 2012 final highlights to remember how good Murray was.

Unfortunately you are probably right about Murray because not only is his hip an issue, he is getting other injuries as well.

yes they sure do, it's the number one record and you're playing to be on top of the record book, not one specific player

Nope man. Its not a lock for Nole if Thiem gets through easily. In this tournament Nole is a servebot and ROS returner. Thiem will force long rallies playing top spin to center of court and slice without pace.

Done. Did it in style too. 8-0 in AO Finals, 4-1 in 5 set finals. The one he lost he came back from 0-2.

OP is the only Federer fan who proclaims Djokovic as GOAT every chance he gets :-D
Because he turned the GOAT into the Choker. Starting in 2010 USO.

so what if he pushes to another 10 slams playing “wait for error” back board tennis on these terrible slow courts?

How can you be the best, when you’re not even the best on any single surface? Except for Miami LOL.

Novak Djokovic has been able to pad his stats due to his main competition, well into his 30s, being guys who are even older than him, and a very poor younger generation. Of course in those circumstances he's able to beat everyone - so would most other ATGs be in the same situation. Yet, he still trails Federer and Nadal in slams, not to mention Federer and Sampras in weeks at No 1. Of course he's also lost multiple times to Wawrinka, a much lesser player, in the latter stages of slams - and Murray a few times also. He's hardly been "great anywhere against anyone".
True stats, although the one I bolded could well change quickly. With Sampras, it seems all but inevitable now: Djokovic will be 10 weeks behind him tomorrow and is defending 135 points in the next 10 weeks with two of his favorite MS events held during those weeks.

He’s the goat of slow HCs where he can boringly push the ball back in play.

Put him on any proper fast court and he gets murdered by Fed or Sampras.

Djokovic now has 8 Australian Open titles. That's the same as Federer at Wimbledon. You will have to live with that and the fact Djokovic is showing no signs of slowing down.

Nah,there is no GOAT and won't ever be a definitive one because then there would be no debate. It's the same as basketball, the GOAT debate being brought up after Kobe passing. No one wants to say "MJ unanimous goat, end of" because that's boring and leaves nothing to debate

I do not get this post? Nadal has a winning record v djokovic which is Djokovic best surface. Yes Djokovic is better in Australia and Wimbledon but surely Nadal at FO tilts scales to Nadal. Nadal can compete with Djokovic on hard courts at Majors. On clay Nadal just owns every one so badly they struggle to get sets.

Last set Nadal took away from Novak on HC dates way back from 2013...

Still on going. We should wait until big 3 retires for good but ......
I think the best players of last 20 years since 2001 will end up like these:

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Federer

Forget GOAT. You can't compare different eras. 70s-90s was very different professional era.
