This is not easy for Novak fanbase.
Some sources claim that he'll play in Acapulco.
The other sources claim he'll play in Dubai.
ATP Chile Open entry list is still open.

We don't like such a confusion. We do need to know where Novak Djokovic is going to play, don't we?

It depends on the appearance fees and when negotiations are complete.

I think Dubai has bought all their players for this goofy event! I've never taken it seriously for some reason! Maybe because it was like a home tourney for Roger who lives there IIRC! I hope Novak doesn't sit around for a couple months before the clay season in Europe! He was terribly rusty and didn't get back in real shape until Rome! Still lost in 4 at FO with a 4th set lead that's depressing! With Nadal whining about being injured, it just pains me to see him win time and time again in Paris! It's like Novak's the designated player to take him down as the rest of the tour has "suck'd" trying to take Nadal down on the Terre Battue of RG! :cautious: :whistle::unsure:;)

Rotterdam and Dubai would make the most sense.

Same. Doha makes no sense. It's a 250 and Bautista-Agut looks kinda untouchable there, lol.

Bueno Aires / Rio might be an interesting option if he intends to get ready for the clay season earlier than the rest of the field. Maybe it would avoid him an early upset in Monte-Carlo for once. But he has never played tournaments in South America, I doubt he is interested in such long flights.

Dubaï has been confirmed apparently. (Acapulco was some kind of Spanish April Fool from what I understand)...

Let's see if it's just Dubaï or if he adds a second tournament. Will depend a lot of his fitness after the AO and how close he is to being back to world number #1. If Alcaraz and Djokovic are very close in terms of ATP points, it may incite him to fight for it before Alcaraz defends his IW semifinal and his Miami title.

If he adds 1 tournament I also think Rotterdam is the best option for him. Conditions are very similar to Paris Bercy, it suits him to a T.

Djokovic should mirror Nadal’s schedule this year and beat him whenever he can. Maybe he will convince Nadal that he needs to retire sooner:cool:
His evil plan was to play in Nadal's quarter in Melbourne, but Alcaraz and Tiley spoiled his party.

No need to overplay. Playing AO and Dubai will be more than enough to get back No1 after which he can go back to spend time with family before coming back to clay.

He acumulated a lot of points after last year USO, making him big favourite for No1 spot until september.

I doubt Novak would skip Indian Wells and Miami in March if he had a choice. He's won Indian Wells 5 times and Miami 6 times, pulling off the "Sunshine Double" four times, which I think might be the record. Not only does he reportedly enjoy both locations (I think he has a house in Miami also), but without defending any points in both events, he has a big opportunity to pad his ranking and bring home some extra cash.

Only reason i see him going there is to say goodbye. He would want to play there one more time before he retires, points and morey are not important to him anymore.

Also he lost to Kyrgios there; bad memories.

he cannot play Indian Wells and Miami and it's official because US won't allow him in.

Last I heard, the ban was to be lifted in April, but due to new wave of Covid, things might have changed! I haven't checked recently! Novak's proved he can overcome schedule impediments! I thought I heard something about playing Rotterdam last season! It's open! ;):giggle::unsure::D

I think that it is due to be reviewed in April, and likely lifted regardless of new waves.

He'll only play Dubai! He said it himself in the post match conference? Are you guys living under a rock or what? He said quite literally he needs a rest to heal his injury and rest with his family to recharge mentally and will only play Dubai come late February! It's a three week break for Novak!...entry lists mean nothing if man himself speaks! this whole two weeks were "too much" for him and his reaction after winning this AO sums it up perfectly! He needs at least a little break to recharge his mental batteries and also deal with injury on top of that!...i'm not even sure he'll be ready even for Dubai! I would love to be mistaken i want to see him play as many tournaments as it's physically possible without breaking one's limits, but i just worry his crazy two-week campaign in Melbourne was too much and he needs more time than usual to rest...

So what were the actual numbers for the Men's Final, it only mentions Women's with 1.4 million and a huge drop from 4 last year which featured Ash Barty(no brainer)
Last year it hit a peak of 3 million and avg of about 2 in Australia and overall it did about 12 for the tournament and this year is 30-40% down

Also last year you had covid going rampant, all those fans glued to the tv instead of watching it live(what was it, 900 000 audience in the stands?)
Then there is the general switch to streaming and we don't have those numbers.

not too bad the mens final was down 18%. they prob didnt include it because it didnt fit the articles narrative haha

18% down would mean an average of 1.71 million
Obviously it didn't pull in amazing numbers but for a reference AO21 final had 1.55 mil avg and 2020 had 2.02(Djoko vs Thiem)
2019 which had Djoko vs Rafa did only 2.08 million avg. and a 3 setter was certainly to blame.
Fed-Rafa in 2017 pulled in 3.8 million.

I'm sure if Djokovic was down 2-0 and took it to a fifth a good deal of people would tune in.

NO! IF he feels in shape, Dubai makes sense. Playing in Mexico and South America makes no sense, especially if he can't play the Sunshine Double. Whatever, it looks like he will remain #1 till after IW

Maybe a few exos just to stay out of the rusty phase. With some retirees. But he shouldn't be playing these tournaments. Calendar Slam is what its all about this year. At 35 he needs to watch his schedule and keep it light

Djokovic's schedule:-
Hamstring injury in January to win AO.
Knee injury in February to win Dubai
Elbow injury in March to win a south American clay event
