Novak to play Laver Cup

Nadal supports Real Madrid over Barcelona in Soccer, but in tennis considers Barcelona home and Madrid his worst clay event. :)

Djokovic on playing the Laver Cup. "I love the whole concept of 'rivals becoming teammaters' and can't wait to join Federer in Team Europe. (...) he is such a great champion so it will be unique experience being part of the same team and perhaps even playing doubles together"

Federer and Djokovic doubles team, dream team...we know who will be doing all the overheads in that doubles team. :D

The Barcelona Open is Rafa's 'home tournament' because he has been a member of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona (hosting the tournament) since he was 11 years old.
He supports Real Madrid because his grandpa & father have supported it.
Madrid is his worst clay event because of Madrid's high altitude.

Can we expect to see scenes like this if they win their doubles match? :)

It's the greatest celebration ever. Stan also said that at the ceremony they had to keep joking together to stop themselves from crying. SNIFF.

Stan does seem to have genuinely close relationships with the rest of the top players. This is Nadal seemingly genuinely concerned about Stan after he was upset by Uncle Toni. http://en.espn.co.uk/tennis/sport/story/255889.html If Novak or Fed complained about Uncle Toni I'm sure they would have been told where to go.

Sadly, I can't see Stan getting back to anywhere close to where he was.

Yes, I know. I just find it interesting.

Didn’t one of his family members play for Barca?

I'd bet my basset hound and several months salary that Federer will not play doubles with Djokovic. He'll stick with Nadal since that made such big news last year and he likes Rafa, and vice versa.

P.S. I take back the basset hound ante.

I'd rather see him play against Fedal to be honest. I'm not sure I like the Europe vs World.

Europe OP, please nerf

I actually think if Rafa and Fed trained exclusively together as a doubles team for 4-5 weeks, they would be a formidable team. Obviously it takes much longer to get to the level of Mac-Fleming, Edberg-Jarryd or the Bryan Bros, but Fedal as a doubles team could be awesome!
I don't know much about how doubles teams complement each other, but I think Nadal works exeptionally well with another player who likes to stay on the baseline on return.

Interesting, I thought he (and Andy) weren't interested in last year but I guess that was just due to Novak's injury struggles and upcoming kid.

Edit:

Laver Cup should be renamed Lovers Cup.

Nice. I expected both Djokovic and Del Potro to participate this year. I think the remaining Team Europe Captain pick will go to Murray if he wants it.

Wawrinka won't play and Thiem and Shapovalov won't return because they'll be playing in St. Petersburg the same week.

I think there's a strong possibility Zverev and Cilic return for Team Europe, and Isner for Team World. Maybe Sock if only for doubles. Schwartzman will probably play as well.

As for Nadal, it'll probably depend on his USO result. He isn't going to easily forgo a hefty appearance fee for only a few days of work.
