Novak's last 51 majors, since 2007 French Open...

While Fed still has more majors, finals appearances and quarterfinals or better, Novak's record in Grand Slams since the 2007 French is mind boggling.

In the 51 majors since then (he missed the 2017 US Open due to injury):

17 major wins
9 major finals defeats (has been in finals in just over half of ones he's played)
11 semis defeats
8 quarterfinals defeats

So Novak has gotten to the semis or better in 37 of the 51 slams he's played. He's gotten to at least the quarterfinals 45 of 51 majors.
His overall record in majors since the '07 French is 270-34.

TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY wins and thirty-four losses. Percentage? An incredible 89%,

Djokovic is the best since he became a top contender in 2007. Federer and Nadal couldn't do anything about it (y) :p
I wouldn’t quite say that. Novak has won 1 French Open. Playing in the same exact era, Rafa has won 12. Rafa has not only beaten Novak many times at the French, he just destroyed Thiem last year in final, who BEAT Novak. Rafa has also won the US Open 4 times in the last 10 years. Novak has won 3.

If their careers ended today, I’d still give the nod to Rafa. 2 more major wins and 6 more tournament titles. But Novak May certainly catch and surpass him. We’ll see.

I honestly don’t believe Novak will get to 20. The reason is advancing age and how difficult it is to keep that speed, agility and joint durability with the way he plays. Thiem, Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas and more are right there knocking on the door. They don’t fear Novak and they’ve all beaten him....some have multiple times. I think Novak will win 1-2 more. He almost lost to Thiem.

How many in a slam since his rise from the ashes at W 2018? Only once? And that was in a weather impacted match at RG against Thiem and 7-5 in the fifth? Djokovic has five of the last seven, these others players first have to show consistency slam in slam out. Medvedev out by fourth round at AO, Zverev finally made a slam semi, Tsitsipas couldn't even make the fourth round at AO. When they started to consistently beat Djokovic in slams, then yes, but right now, he rules the world, and considering he won 3 in the last 12 months, to say he cannot win another three in the rest of his career is a little too much at this stage.

Djokovic will win all 4 this year
That is the other extreme to what I replied to above, and this is not happening either. It was just be insane if he can win three. Two slams is certainly what his target should be this year now that he has the AO.

These younger players are getting better but not at the level to beat Djokovic in the majors. Novak has that extra level or 2, which he can go to. Novak is still in great shape and it’s gonna take a great performance to beat him. He’s favourite in 3 of the 4 majors. He is in the mix at the French too, even though he’s not favourite he is still a big threat.

What I see is Djokovic is the the man to beat this year and the closest challenger to him is still Nadal! Djokodal are the favourites for the remaining slams again. Thiem,Medvedev, Zverev, etc are getting better but still lack the mentality and still have a couple of holes in their game if they want to reach the top.

I’d be happy with 2 slams too. That’s more realistic and possible. At best novak could get 3, if he really peaks at the slams and gets that little bit of luck. 2 slams will have him right in the mix though, if he managed to get 3 this year, he’d be in pole position to pass federer and Nadal for sure.

I generally agree with that but I think these guys have really taken a step forward and are sick of Novak, Rafa and to a lesser extent, Fed. Tsitsipas lost to Raonic, who had one the greatest serving matches of his career. Tsitsipas believes he can and will win slams. Thiem just came so close and wants it badly. Medvedev almost beat Rafa at the US Open. I will admit he had a letdown against Wawrinka...but it was 3 time major winner Wawrinka, who played his best match in 3 years and then was cooked against Zverev. And I think Zverev has turned a corner getting to a slam semi...big monkey off his back. He clocked Novak at the year end Masters’.

He needs at least one more this year. Two more would be insane.

Compared to similar 51 major spans from Fed and Nadal.

Almost identical numbers from Fed if you start with Wimbledon 2003:

17 titles
10 final losses
13 semifinal losses
6 quarterfinal losses
273-34 match record overall (88.9%)

Crazy just how similar they are. Though Fed’s a couple years older than Djokovic in this metric (and if we started counting 51 majors from Wimbledon 2004 his numbers would be even better because they’d include his last three slam wins while only losing his first two, but that’s even less an apples-to-apples comparison).

Nadal’s starting with 2005 French (up through last year’s French since he’s skipped so many):

18 titles
8 final losses
6 semifinal losses
7 quarterfinal losses
251-32 match record overall (88.7%)

About what I would expect. The most effective of the three once he makes it deep but doesn’t make it deep quite as much. Only 32 semifinal-or-better results compared to 37 for Djokovic and 40 for Fed. And it’s not a perfect comparison since he missed 5 majors in this span compared to just one for Djokovic and zero for Fed, and also had a withdrawal (so no loss) at one tournament, unlike the other two. Also Djokovic started making deep runs a little before winning his first, whereas my counts for Fed and Nadal start with their first win, and they’re all at different ages. But interesting comparison nonetheless. Ridiculous numbers from these guys.

Also no shame in Djokovic at this point in his career losing to Thiem at RG. The Austrian is a top player on clay

Exactly, so I don't agree with those saying that Novak for certain isn't getting to 20. He may not, of course, but he has a chance to make it too.

Sure he has a free roll at RG as Nadal is always expected to win there so if Djokovic does win there he will be on 18 and 3 slams to come that he be favourite for also would be the first person to win every slam 2 or more and lastly on CYGS. RG is bigger for Nadal as it’s a slam he relies on every year.

Novak's won the most recent head to head in each of these four cases.

If I was Djokovic, then I would play RG more with a house money mindset. Don't put too much pressure on, sometimes that is his undoing at RG.

It doesn't help that he's played RG 3 times with a Nole Slam at stake. Maybe he will feel less pressure this year with no Nole Slam on the table.

True, but I do think he really mentally looks under pressure when he plays at RG, in comparison to the other slams. A relaxed mindset is what he needs now, he has the career slam, so take some of that pressure off and just go for it. A relaxed Novak is a dangerous Novak.

That’s exactly how I feel. He should relish the underdog role at RG. He’s did the business at Australia where the pressure was on him to win. Now the pressure is on Rafa. Novak should just play freely and like you say go for it. Nothing to lose everything to gain. A lot of people think it’s between a Nadal and Thiem. That will suit Novak well being under the radar.

I’m just glad he’s won it so pressure is off in that aspect. I do think the addition of roof, lights and better scheduling will help novaks mindset too. For a few years novak has been upset and annoyed with the bad weather causing huge delays and messing up his schedule. I think he will be happier they finally have added these changes. About time they brought them into as well.

Couple of days ago I read an article from some guy Tony Kornheiser who works for ESPN as a journalist and there he claimed that Wimbledon and US Open are valued more than RG and that AO is valued the least, hence in his opinion Federer is much better than the rest of The Big 3 cause he has the most W+USO combined and that regardless of total GS numbers he is the GOAT. Also he mentioned that Novak is beating old man Federer and Nadal whereas we see that Novak is collecting big titles since 2007 when Fed was 26 and Nadal 21. So, some people will always find arguments for their favorite player. I just can't accept that some slams have higher value than the rest of the slams. Why not only play WB and USO then? Totally silly...

I agree with your premise but this logic is equally as silly. That's like saying the slams are higher value than Masters Series so why contest the latter.

So? You talk like it is such a travesty or monumental failure for him and his fans that is he third to Federer and Nadal. If it takes those two to have him in third, I think he is doing just fine. ;)

And what exactly do you want me to tell them? I told you many times before that for me, after he won RG 2016 I was content with his career even if he never won anything again, and I was here the whole time while the guy for the first time since 2006 was holding zero titles to his name. Here's the thing, you're never going to stop a certain group of fans, regardless of whether they are Novak fans, Rafa fans or Fed fans from stirring the pot. You know that and so do I.
