Novice stringing question - how to start to 1 piece stringing

Hi - I am new to stringing and have done a couple of racquets with 2-piece stringing by starting with equal length of string on the first two mains. If I want to do 1-piece stringing to reduce tension loss from the knots, how do I measure out and portion the strings on the first two mains at the start? For example, I am stringing a racquet that uses 19 feet for the mains and 16 feet for the crosses for 2 piece stringing, or 34 feet for a one piece stringing. With an initial package of 40 feet of string, would I measure out about ten feet for half of the mains, and reserve the other 30 feet for the other half of the mains and the crosses?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, just measure out half of the two-piece mains length.

Nellie, If your racquet has 18 mains as you thread the string through your first center grommet you can pull 9 1/2 lengths though the frame and that will give you an acceptable length to complete your short side mains and still leave plenty to do your long side and crosses.

Thanks- I appreciate the fast feedback - I hate to start on set of strings, only to cut everything out after an hour when there's a mistake.

sounds like you already have the right idea. 10 ft should get you there, and you could be more generous since you will have extra left over anyways.
