Watching Novak walk off the court injured last night did reinforce a statement in my mind - We are really blessed and fortunate to have such titans of the sport still go out there and fight the biggest fights, understanding that it can all be over in a blink of an eye. No one is invincible, but that is what makes them special, mortals touching the heights of immortality, but still yet remaining mortal. For me, back in 2016, when Djokovic completed the career slam, I said I was content with his career, even if he never won anything after that, for me, someone who has supported him through his darkest times, to his brightest moments, I was happy with what he achieved. Then came the iconic rising from the ashes at Wimbledon 2018 after two years lost in an ever downward spiral of chaos, and what followed was something very few imagined...winning four out of five slams.

Him losing today was easy to accept, the journey is one which is all too familiar for any great, and one Novak himself has been on more than once...You appreciate the success more when you reflect on the losses, and this is why I have incredible respect and admiration for the two trail blazers that came before him, Federer and Nadal. I really hope both make the final, it doesn't matter to me that Federer gets 21 or Nadal gets 19 and they pull further away Djokovic in the slam race, I never watched tennis for that, or cheered Novak on back when he had nothing so he could one day have the slam record....I want it because Federer and Nadal are two of the greatest champions in any sport, ever. For them to continue to do what they have done for so long is so mind boggling, words cannot truly describe it.

Nothing against the other players, at the end of the day, whoever lifts that trophy deserves it, but to finally get that Federer v Nadal final, no matter the result will be like their final curtain call. The one thing that these two incredible icons have yet to do, have yet to give us...A USO final. Federer fans....Nadal fans....I hope your guys make it, and I hope they blow the roof off of Ashe.

As for Novak, he'll be back. Never count a champion out. ;)

If Nadal is planning to play like in Wimbledon semifinal then I really don't want this final. Better to lose to somebody like Cilic or Zverev than to lose once again against Federer and read all the trolls writing what a tough opponent Nadal is and that Federer is such a hero that he can own his "main rival". (when in fact we all know who is his current main rival and we know Federer can't beat him)

Seriously, Federer and Nadal could meet so many times at the US Open when Nadal was in much better form, especially from the mental side. This year I don't want it to happen. Unfortunately, Federer is simply a lock to reach the final as all the players left at his half of the draw are his pigeons.

No offense, OP . . . I like you and all . . . but I will take ANY final whatsoever other than Fed/Nadal.

And I mean any.

Stan v anyone is my top choice.

If he crashes out, any two (except Fed/Nadal) will do.

We don't need Fed-Nadal finals.

The lesser big 3 win for tennis , it is good for the sport.

Yesterday was a great day for the sport with Stan winning and it would be so cool to see a new champion win here and emerge as the leader.

This is the USO, not Wimbledon. Del Potro was his pigeon and Fedr still lost to DelPo in 2009. Let's see if he can even reach his only second final since 2010!

Nice words OP.

Honestly though, I'm not too bothered about getting a Fedal final. I'm at the point now where if we get it then it's fine, but if we don't then I'm fine with that too. My first choice is neither making the final because I'm tired of the crap that gets slung around the forum.

If Nadal beats Federer in final id retire off here and all tennis forums.

As for the OP...Djokovic won 2 majors this year...at his age thats amazing.. none of them win 3 majors from now on in a year. No chance. Djokovic was unlikely to win really. Still a great year...more than great really.

It was there for 3 other semu finalists as well.
And rain or no rain, he wasn't going to take down nadal.

The other semi finalists didn’t play 3 days in a row like Djokovic or 4 days in a row like Thiem. And I believe a Djokovic at his best would have beaten Nadal.

It'll happen, and Federer, GOAT of the game, shall at the age of 38 become the oldest male slam singles champ of the Open Era.

Oh glory, glory days.

Anyone who is actively rooting against a Fedal final at the USO is out of their mind. This is the biggest rivalry and their golden opportunity to meet here. I'll be so freaking bummed if one of them manages to lose before they get there.

If there were more people like Hitman here and on this planet, boy what a wonderful place Earth would be.

Also, disappointed how Novak went out but it what it is. Wish him speedy recover and to us Fedal final. (y)

Count me in as another one who is BORED of Fed-Nadal finals. And honestly, it doesn't matter whether it is #21 or #19,
Fed-Nadal is so 11 years ago. I would want some fresh blood.

I know it will NEVER happen, but I would love to have a Medvedev vs Berritini final. Something different. Something new.
While Fedalovic are great champions, they are WAAAY past their expiration date. It's only the lack of depth in men's tennis that we have these guys still dominating.
Not to mention all the fights and mudslinging that would happen after a Fedal final, whoever wins.

I'm looking for a new player to support. To become a big fan. To transfer allegiance and see something exciting..

The way things are going, Federer v Nadal looks to be destined, but let's not talk about it too early and jinx it. It will be an epic final if happens.
