Now Robin Soderling is a good example of someone who's NOT a choker,

If everyone's a choker, I guess you define choker a little to broad. Robin is a good player, but not particularly mentally tough. Played a great match though and deserves credit.

No, I did not say everyone, but names of players along the lines of Alma...Robr...Tso... You know what I mean...

Could've challenged. Just like Murray chould've challenged against Fed in USO 08 final second set. Just like every player at some point could've, but didn't challenge an incorrect call. It wasn't as if the ball was inside the line. A sliver hit the outside of the line.

I guess the FO wasn't accidental as some people claimed it. Robin secured another win over Rafa. Yes no choking.

I think he showed plenty of mental toughness in this match despite playing like crap losing a lot easy points on adv side of the court.

No Yoke! This match confirms the FO thrashing was no accident.
Jaaa, it's a bad matchup for Rafa....sort of like Rafa is a bad matchup for Roger.

Yimmy Connors was a bad matchup for Lendl at times.
And Lendl became a rough one for Yohnny Mac.

Well done Soderling. Wonder if Yenni is in the stands enyoying this match.

unlike all the other chokester clowns...
Good thread, well Soderling is Swedish, he has balls, and he is not scared by Nadal---THAT cant be said of all the other Spanish choke-clowns!

Soderling was pumped up beating Nadal, this victory meant a lot to him after Nadal down played Robin's performance at Roland Garros citing injury.

Soderling did improve in mental department this year but he seemed especially sharp mentally in his last 2 matches against Nadal, played the big points great.I wouldn't say he's showing the same mental tougness he did against Nadal lately agaisnt other players(not yet),he seems especially motivated against Nadal.

Soderling is extremely motivated when he plays Nadal and he has ZERO respect for Rafa and that helps a lot in tennis...

Nadal played badly today. No comeback at all from being down as he used to. He needs to go to the net far more - even Verdasco is better than him at the moment. He played far too much base line tennis

Federer can never be the GOAT because he got mono, did Laver, Borg or Sampras ever get mono? no, and thats why Federer will never be the GOAT.
Yeah, but Laver was short, Borg was a quitter, and Sampras was diseased, so none of them can be the GOAT, either! :(

Reminds me of the Nadal-Murray AO 07 4th round match. A bad line went against Murray, and if he'd have challenged he'd have probably won the match. But he didn't, and Nadal took it in five. Strangely, history shows that Nadal won that match, and there's not an asterisk next to it in the history books or anything. I guess what goes around comes around.

In today's match with Sod, there was hardly a guarantee that Nadal would have won the set, much less the match, if he'd won that point. Nadal wasn't playing especially well and didn't seem to have any fire. That was the real problem, not one bad call on a ball that barely clipped the line. Nadal's a better player than Soderling, but he's still got to bring the goods.

Keep living in your little fantasy land. As far as the world is concerned Federer is GOAT. 15 slams + career slam + strong era (competing against prime clay GOAT) = GOAT of Tennis.

As I said before..

Too early to call Soderling the 2nd coming or a choker. We will have to see how things play out. So far, hes had a few big wins over Rafa, but no big tournament wins. So overrall, who knows. Im not sold on the guy yet. We'll see what happens when he gets in trouble and gets the pressure put on in a big match. He couldnt do anything about Fed in the RG final. He appears to have no plan B.

he may improve. Soderling I dont think its the standard of consistency every thinks he is.

That was a nice win by Soderling. I wasnt able to watch the match but I saw the highlights on you tube and Soderling played well. He won very convincingly too.

It seems Soderlings game matches up favorably against Nadal. Fed has more offense and variety to throw at Soderling. But as of this tournament I dont see how Fed can win. Anyone could take him out.

Oh come on, this nonesense reminds me of that challenge in the USO 08 final between Fed and Murray, where Fed hit a ball out and Murray didn't challenge, as if that would have given Murray the victory.

I'm by no means a Soderling fan, but you have to admit Nadal was outplayed.

The bottom line is that Soderling doesn't even have to play out of his mind, like he did at the French Open, in order to beat Nadal, as he just proved today.

"Might of?". What in hell is that? And you are supposed to be in England/English?

Rafa might have won if he challenged, Rafa might have won if he won the first set, Rafa might have won if he won the second set. But he didn't.

Nadal is easier to beat indoors than on clay. He is 153-6 on clay since 2005 whereas his indoor record is abysmal.

Soderling seams to be very focused player....plays his game no matter what the other guy does....hits hard and deep....has a bomb of a serve he can build easy points on....
Looking forward to his match vs Djokovic......could be a great one....Sod looking for his first win against Novak....he has the tools to do it IMO.
