tennis has always had issues with all the different organizations, men v women, weird schedules and conflicts (esp davis cup), weird ranking/points system, too many games/too long of a schedule, etc...
it was discussed by analysts during this years first atp cup as well. (since certain players got $$ and free ranking points)

while no one is playing and everything is shutdown, tennis remains frozen.
the sport has always felt a bit fractured. now seems like a great time to rearrange the pieces.
if all the players unite, with the big4 leading the way, maybe...?
a new era...

A few changes that I wouldn't mind seeing when (if) the tour restarts:

- Queens becomes a M1000
- 1 more week between RG and Wimbledon
- Downgrade Paris to a 500, move Shanghai indoors and make it the indoor Masters
- Cut a couple weeks from the season end, maybe by removing a few indoor 250s, and make the off season longer
- Make WTF final BO5 again
- Sync ATP/WTA calendars better
- Bring back old Davis Cup, but with 5th set TBs or BO3 prelim rounds
- Equal pay
- Remove the silly 5th set TBs at AO and Wimbledon. Dumb rule ruined one of the greatest finals ever last year.
- all-Hawk Eye line calling, or challenge system on clay at least
- Speed up HCs throughout the tour. We all miss the days of high-speed slugging.
- BO5 Slams for women ??? That's a big change that has been proposed in the past, we'd have to see if the WTA would favor that.

I'll add one more. Make every Slam and Masters with only top 8 seeds in the draw instead of 32 seeds. Throw every player outside of the top 8 all throughout the draw so we can see more potentially tough matches in the first week.

Schedule wise I'd dream for each slam to have a build up series on the same surface with 1-2 masters beforehand. Ideally the 4 slams would be spread out evenly across the calendar, then their respective masters mixed in and then the 250's and 500's to fill the gaps. For the ATP Finals, there would be 1 or 2 indoor masters beforehand.

So for RG you'd have Monte Carlo and Rome before RG.
For Wimby time for a grass court masters--maybe Halle or Queens. Obviously we'd also have a longer grass court season to accommodate this.
For US Open Cincy and Rogers Beforehand.
For ATP finals, I guess you keep Paris.
Not sure what you do with Indian wells and Miami. Could they somehow lead into the AO?

I'd also love winners of 250 and 500 tournaments to get higher seeding in upcoming Masters being prioritized over points. Maybe if you won Washington DC, you get a top 16 seed into Cincy unless your ranking points give you even a higher placing.

Time to get rid of line judges, Hawkeye everything.

Get rid of tennis at the Olympics, we have the slams don't need all the players going there just to get wasted at the Olympic Village.

Get rid of Davis Cup and Fed cup and possibly replace with a team format championship that plays in parallel with the 2nd week of slams. Could be the US Open team championship. This would put more tennis in the second week and let you know of up and comers that got knocked out in the first week. Have 4-8 legends pick draft players as they fall out of the main draws, then battle away week 2 possibly absoring more players as they fall out. Could be a mixed event.

8 seeds? You'd have players in the top 10 meeting in the 1st round. Cutting to 16 seeds would have that effect, but 8 is too little IMO

Why so? Most everyone after the top 6 are complete mugs with zero consistency anyway. Look at the clowns after the top 8. You got Monfils, Berrettini, Fognini, Rublev and a whole lot of no-hopers who can't even do 2 weeks of consistency without crashing out against someone outside the top 50. Clown era!
Not always the case. Go back a few years and you have guys like Del Potro, Tsonga, Cilic, Gasquet, Haas, etc in that 8-16 range. These are not no-hopers. (Neither is Monfils, just for the record. He's made Slam semis and had some consistent years).

Well you just created this thread talking about a good time for tennis to reset. So why not make tennis much more exciting by cutting down the number of seeds in the tournaments so we can get more possible epic matches in the first round or two?

Controversial but eliminate equal pay in grand slams unless women agree to BO5 in semis and/or final. Equal pay for equal work, this is 2020 right.

Hawkeye line calls is great! Same as umpires in baseball, the challenge system is great but bottom like the right call is the right call.

Allow coaching after each set or twice per match at players discretion in ATP

M1000 grass event and less clay events

- IW & Miami to be played before AO with court surface and speeds matching in all three
- Halle to M1000 giving Germany back their tournament at that level they haven't had since Hamburg
- Paris M1000 to be demoted to 500 (Paris already hosts a major tennis tournament)
- Shanghai to be played indoors so you have an indoor Asian season (alongside the existing Asian 500's) leading to the WTF
- WTF to be played in Asia to develop the game in an emerging economic powerhouse (and again, London already hosts a major tournament)
- ATP Cup and Davis Cup to merge and keep the short tournament format, return to B05 and only play it once every four years between Olympic years
- Season structure:
  • IW
  • Miami
  • AO
  • MC
  • Madrid
  • Rome
  • RG
  • Halle
  • Wimbledon
  • Canada
  • Cinci
  • USO
  • Shanghai
  • WTF

Queen’s is not going to ever become a Masters 1000 event. It has very limited parking and it’s impossible to expand the venue or parking. The seating is also not able to be expanded. The tournament has addressed this in the past.

I think it makes sense to make the Asian swing grass. There is a history of grass court tennis in Asia/India, the weather is good in the south and China has the capacity to throw up a 10,000 grass centre court without blinking an eye.
