NRG2 vs Triax vs Head Velocity MLT

Been doing a little bit of research, but have not found too much info on these three strings comparing them. I'm thinking about switching away from RPM (becoming too stiff for me) to either a hybrid with a multi or full bed of a multi. In your experience, what are the pros, cons and comparison between Technifibre NRG2, Technifibre Triax and Head Velocity MLT?

No chance to try Triax. But if you want spin, Velocity is much better than NRG2. NRG2 has a lot more power tho its longevity is not as good as Velocity. Prince Premiere Control would be between the two and Prince Premiere Attack would be closer to NRG2, which is where Triax probably would be. This assumes same frame and tension.

My sets of Triax are still on their way, but I think most people here found it to be something between a soft co-poly and Velocity, rather than similar to NRG2

Of the several Multi I have used over the years, I find Triax is the best. I used in full bed. It has a good spin rating as well. Moving from RPM, full bed with 52 or above tension will work great. Even on stiff pure drive 2010, plays great.

I have 1 Prince Phantom 100 w/ Triax and another w/ Velocity MLT. Strung at same time, same tension.
Not a string breaker myself. End up cutting strings as soon as they become uneven tension or start getting stuck out of place.

Triax feels crisper. Velocity very muted
Triax more Spin.
Triax strings didnt get stuck out of place
Seem to have about the same power.

I wouldnt do the Velocity MLT again personally. Multifeel is the same price range, has a crisper feel than MLT.

My #1 String is Triax 16g
My #2 String is Multifeel 16g (still testing so dont know exactly how the lifespan and stuff

Yes Natural for MLT

They are all multifilaments. Again, I am biased since my racket is already supersoft (56 RA I think) the Velocity makes its too muted and loose feel. It might be really good in STIFF rackets. The new tennis Warehouse youtube review is quite glowing and so many people love Velocity as well.

Triax was Natural
Multifeel Black Only Tried
Velocity was Natural... heard it was better.

Triax: More spin, crisper feel and control. It has better coating.
NRG2: Softest of the 3 and provide max power.
Velocity MLT: may be in between.

I always recommend players/clients to go with (very) soft poly as cross than multi.
I see players (top spinners specially), bring rackets that has multi cross but dead well before poly's life.
It will be worse for shaped poly.

No. These were full bed only. If someone wanted a hybrid with RPM Blast mains, I would probably use SpiralTek or POSG. I do not like multi crosses with poly mains because it locks up too fast.

I like Multifeel, but I only get about 4 hours out of it before significant fraying. It's not an expensive string, but it's too expensive for 4 hours.

I'm still searching. Historically I've been a poly mains/multi crosses hybrid user, but I'm switching to a stiffer racquet and poly in that racquet is too harsh on my elbow. So I'm switching them up and trying multi mains with poly crosses. It does seem to give me a bit less spin, but I love the new racquet and playing better than ever. The biggest issue I'm having is durability at most I'm getting 8 hours out of a multi/poly hybrid (Multifeel was the least durable). At 8 hours or less, I can't afford to restring using expensive multis.

Right now, I'm waiting for a shipment of Triax, Cream, and Ocho TNT. I'm hoping one of them will give me the playability and durability to make the cost worthwhile.

In the meantime, I'm actually playing Tourna Syngut Armor in the mains and Isospeed Baseline in the crosses because that combination plays ok and I don't mind cutting them out after 6 hours since it costs me $2.50 per restring. I'm excited to try Triax, I keep reading good things about it.

Not that you asked but Prince Premier Control comes in 15 and 15L and at times can be had dirt cheap for a reel

Thanks for the tip, I will add it to the list of strings to try. Looking at the cost though, it's twice as expensive as the strings I'm using temporarily... Both Syngut Armor and Isospeed Baseline are $40 for a 660 ft reel!

I believe they have had deals in the past where it gets done to 60 a reel or so. Its really nice string.

In my experience when a poly is near the end for me I will start to feel excess vibrations on contact and it will feel stiff. I correlate that with high tension loss and notching. With a multi it’s a bit different for me and I do not get excess vibrations (most likely due to the softer nature of the string) but the stiffness is very noticeable when the strings lock due to notching. The most comfortable setup for my arm is gut/poly or multi/poly with fresh poly as second most comfortable. I notch full bed multi or synthetic gut very quick and have to string it tighter for enough control which aggravates my arm quickly.

that’s not really dead. Dead is when the string loses resilience. All strings lose tension, even gut. Describing that process as Dead just creates confusion.

mushy is how I would describe old multis.

My kid is using Velocity 17 (pink) as crosses. He likes it a lot, helps with arm pain vs. full bed poly without providing uncontrollable power. He is a college player. He used to use Triax, but drifted away from it when he started playing with his sponsor's frames.
