NTRP DQ in Mixed

Why isn't the USTA allowing NTRP disqualifications in mixed? How do we deal with a self-rated 4.0 (who's really, at the very least, a 5.0) kid fresh out of high school playing 8.0 mixed? This kid is from a team that has already been warned by the USTA because of having a college player self-rate at 3.5 for mixed. Ugh!

unless you have proof he is a 5.0, it is worthless, does the kid play College? If not then he can play 4.0 or 4.5 as long as his rankings do not push him higher.

With the extreme variability of highschool tennis there is not much the USTA can do to set minimums. If they have played a collage match or taken tennis scholarship money it's an insta DQ at 4.0.

My last two no-chance to win 4.0 matches have been a the hands of highshoolers who played in tougher divisions but were not good enough for the state tourney. (16 player)

He's won district titles before, finished 4th in 6A State doubles this year. That's not a 4.0 player.

He has is a "S" 4.0. He graduated high school but hasn't gone into college yet. Ugh.

Where is he going to college? Has he committed to the tennis team? Was he ranked? These are also considerations. You don't have to have actually played a college match to be a 5.0 min, you just have to commit to the program.

In Mixed? If an M-rated player starts to play league tennis, s/he is definitely subject to DQ, but if that player sticks to mixed, are there DQs just from mixed matches? I thought not, but I could be wrong.

No, but someone could file a self-rate grievance against a player with an "M" rating. And if the "M" rated player decides to play Adult or Senior league, they have to Self rate again which gives them an "S" rating and makes them subject to the DQ when they start playing Adult or Senior.

I have seen mix-exclusive players DQ's. It is all based on the computer dynamic rating because.

In general, though, it is hard to get DQ'd playing only doubles because you have 4 players of different dynamic ratings and since you usually don't get crazy lopsided scores. Thus, even if you get a terrible sandbagger, the final score may be 6-2, 6-2, but a lopsided 30 minute match.

Let's put it a different way - I know of a player with serious tennis credentials (ATP points, etc.). HE plays mixed only and wins almost every match, but keeps on getting dropped in rating (started as a 6.5 but now he is a computer rated 4.5).

I couldn't Google anything on him committing to a college. He has played well at district and state level post-season high school tennis.

And there are no dynamic ratings for Mixed. It seems next to impossible to get this kid DQed. I'm baffled, but I don't want to let this go. I want to fight it and get that team punished for just the continual unsportsmanlike conduct.

Your only possibility is to file a self-rate grievance. This is actually more useful in mixed than in the regular adult leagues since there aren't any 3-strikes DQs in mixed. You'd have to make your case why they inaccurately (documenting your assertion that "He's won district titles before, finished 4th in 6A State doubles this year." may be enough).

Can you file twice? We filed once before I went into Sherlock mode where I found more supporting evidence.

just because the kid made districts/state doesn't say a whole lot since different divisions and districts have such a wide range of level.

but the PNW USTA page suggests a min. rating for anyone who finishes Top 4 in State to take a 4.5 rating. What it doesn't specify is singles or doubles - and I don't think it matters.

Kid is also winning at 9.0 mixed as well. With a 4.0 partner.

Did you look him up on tennisrecruiting.net? They have a lot of that information on there, too.

Something to keep in mind....the 'kid' is really just that. A kid. Who probably has no clue about ntrp or ratings or DQ.

Remember your beef is most likely with the captain(s). Especially since it appears that they are repeat offenders.

I'm confident the kid knows about NTRP ratings. His high school buddy played in my 4.5 league. Got DQed to 5.5. I'm sure they talk about it.

All the adults on the team KNOW that he isn't a 4.0 player - especially the captain who is the high school coach for that kid.

not surprised

Good luck, unless the kid is ranked high. I witnessed
an 18 yr old chick ranked top 200 nationally, but uncommitted,
partnered w a fit 40 something former d1 dude destroy my teammates
at 9.0 a couple months ago.
That team got beat later the same day.

Neither team got DQed

self rate players during mixed cannot be dq'd but(m) mixed has a 0.000005 percent chance of dq

Doesn't seem like anyone can be DQed. Guess we'll have to play how the other teams play. Yep, it's come to this, USTA. And you guys have yourself to blame!

That's been the rule in mixed since I first played it and that goes back 10+ years ago. No DQ's in NTRP Mixed. I you could prove a player to have lied about their self-rate maybe, maybe someone would listen. It would have to be blatant.
