NTRP = golf handicap

Is there a rough approximation of NTRP rating to golf handicap? Such as, 5.0 = scratch golfer, 4.5 = 8 handicap, 4.0 = 15 handicap, etc. (I don't know enough about golf to make this accurate --)

Just wondering if anyone had ever toyed with it.

A scratch golfer (Average Division I college player) would probably be a 6.0 NTRP (Average Division I college player). A 5.0 NTRP is probably a 7 handicap, and a 4.0 is around a 12-15 handicap.

HeavyBall,

Not these days with self-verification. It seems like an average Division I player plays 4.5. It should be, however, how you stated it.

As a former golfer and considering the USTA ratings in my section and the amount of skill at each level I think the following is a reasonable comparison.

2.5 = 27-36 HCP
3.0 = 18-27 HCP
3.5 = 12-18 HCP
4.0 = 9-12 HCP
4.5 = 4-9 HCP
5.0 = 0-4 HCP
5.5 = -2-0 HCP
6.0 and above, you do not have a golf handicap and are probably at some level of professional play.

I think the French rating system builds on this idea. If I remember correctly, Erwin From Paris wrote that the rating go something along the line of: 1 is pro level; 2-30 is someone who could beat a pro with a two game starting advantage and a score advantage of 30 each game - something like that anyway.
