NTRP rating year match cut off

If I recall correctly, the cutoff for matches to count towards ratings is the end of the last adult Nationals. (not mixed). Is that right?

Last year it was roughly mid-November .... looks like if that is correct, this year the cut off will be last weekend of October (the 26th-28th) ... 2 weeks shorter than last year. (only mixed Nationals in November)

I ask because I have a couple of self-rates and I somehow need to get them 3 rated matches each (in order to get bumped down a level from where they self-rated)

Cut-off end of October this year, yes or no?

I thought cut off was Thanksgiving...

I hope so ... will give me enough time to get these players enough matches!
But, as ratings come out roughly Dec 1, and T-giving is the 27th ... I doubt they would cut it that close. With all that NTRP black-magic that needs to be applied right at the end.

Cut-off has never been Thanksgiving, it is always earlier and does usually coincide with the last Adult Nationals. I have not had it confirmed yet, but expect that to mean it is 10/28 like @OnTheLine hypothesized.

I really wanted you to tell me that I was wrong. That this year they are going through mid-November including the mixed Nationals .... I have one player I can only get 2 rated matches .. the other maybe 1. They have challenging availability and I need them to get officially bumped down before 2019

Have them appeal down.

Who did that ever stop?

I want an easy out when re-arranging my team for spring.
"You just got dropped down a level and would be competitive there, here is a 3.0 captain's number" is a lot easier than "you cannot win a match, you cannot hit a backhand, you df more often than you get a serve in, please go through the 2 week process of getting appealed down and here is a 3.0 captain's number if you are successful"

Nevermind. I understand now. You want them to get bumped down so they are no longer 3.5 so you don't have them on your team.

Too bad USTA had to fix tennislink. I'm told you used to be able to appeal the level of any player if you knew how to manipulate the URL. You could have just done the appeal for them before the recent improvements.

You're just going to have to take them off the team distribution and ghost them.

can't they play an NTRP tourney or two in this time?

Good to know. Last year two of our Winter 18 & Over matches counted for that years ratings and the remaining for the next year. I take it ratings will be released two weeks earlier than last year as well? If that's the case then hopefully they'll be out before our season starts on Nov 10 and we can add some guys that get bumped down before the first match.

Doubt that. I'd still expect it the week after Thanksgiving.

Last year's cutoff was very late, it has been end of October in most years, and they were still published after Thanksgiving then.

Oh well. Thanks for the info. I guess it's still good to know that none of our 18+ matches will count towards this years ratings.

Why were mixed nationals first last year?

Technically, due to the early-start league flights, the cutoff for 2018 matches to count toward 2019 matches is 12/31/18. I have been told by our DLC that the early start matches *do* count toward next year's ratings (and we had a thread about this within the last few weeks). our 3.5/40+ session runs into the 1-2nd weeks of December...

yup, our league is not early-start as it is non-advancing, however starts tomorrow and goes through 12/15 ... so the September and October matches count towards the ratings coming out 12/1 and the matches in November and December count towards next year's ratings ...

BUT, if you get bumped on 12/1 you are eligible to finish the season at your 2018 rating level, provided season ends prior to 12/31

Early start 2019 matches played before the 2018 year end rating cutoff date count towards the 2018 year end rating. In OP's case, this is moot because it's still a 2018 league, but for the 2019 early start matches in Sept and Oct, they still count to your 2018 year end rating. We have early start tri-level in Sept and Oct and people who self-rate for these leagues get a C-rating at the end of the year.

I wish they would count Flex leagues. I'd look like a 4.5 this year. lol.

LOL ... kinda glad they don't ... our flex league is in the summer and all matches at night ... bad things happen to me in the dark, I would look more like a 2.5!

Agree, and I have two losses out of several matches that had light issues, so I have been lucky mostly to schedule either fully under lights or before lights are needed. It is that transition time from light to dark that kills me!

seriously. I get tired of hearing myself say ... "that went over the net?"

That dusky time was nearly entire first set of each match all summer. Lost a lot of first sets, played a lot of 3rd set breakers. Can't see a thing. Can't time anything. No depth perception.

I'd be a 5.5 if I could see at my home club!

Said it in a post last week, played what would have been the only competitve match against a young player last week, but it was at dusk and at a court park with four lights on the outter part of every 2 courts. Both of us struggled and the guy apologised over and over about it, didn't even want to record the scores, and kept wanting a rematch in the day or under full lights. But really he has been the only level player of the lot. So really, more than wishing Flex matches counted for rating is that if they did count for rating you would have to actually BE at that rating to play.

so @schmke do you have any confirmation that this weekend 27-28th is the cut off for rated matches for 2018? Any chance it could be out to Nov 3rd?

Fussing with lineups, trying to get 2 people enough rated matches (3) ... failing because one of my S rates ended up in a match against another S rate so it might not count, trying like mad to get another player who is likely on the cusp of being bumped but probably needs a signature win to do so, AND trying to have everyone with balanced playing time. Can't do it all if the cut off is this week, but could do it (likely) if the cut off is next week ....

I'm not 100% sure, someone could always change their mind, but heard from multiple sources it is the 28th.

yeah, what I figured .... so if an S rate plays against another S rate and for both of them it is their 1st rated match (doubles with both other players C rated) does that match count as one of the 3?
